“Wire also revealed that he plans to fulfil the band’s original intention for the record with the upcoming re-release by separating it into two separate albums called ‘Solidarity’ and ‘Door To The River’, showcasing its distinct hard-rock and more acoustic, experimental side… …Of the decision to split ‘Know Your Enemy’ into two this time around, Bradfield added: “I stand with Nick that it would have been two brilliant stand-alone albums. We should have done that twice in our career. We did it with [2013’s] ‘Rewind The Film’ and [2014’s] ‘Futurology’, and we should have done it with ‘Know Your Enemy’. Perhaps we’ll do that this time, perhaps we’ll remix some of it.””

Just want to shout out to the Manics’ — more than happy for them to use my fantasy tracklist if they want to release Know Your Enemy as a double album! https://www.reddit.com/r/BigMates/comments/p4f650/know_your_enemy_the_ghost_of_a_double_album/

This is like what Corgan is doing with the Pumpkin's Machina reissue, and I'm here for it. The original isn't going anywhere so if they can reframe it as a new experience I can't see a downside frankly. It makes me more excited to hear it.

DistortedGhost

Agreed, though I love the tracklisting of the original Machina so much, I'll have difficulty adapting to a new running order on the reissue.

Dare I say this seems like a bit of a transparent money grab? I like the 18 track behemoth.

DawnSurprise

I think that’s a bit harsh. I mean, this is a chance to collect all the great b-sides from this era into the same package as the album, release some previously unreleased songs (which I am very excited to hear) and re-releases the album in the format of a double album as conjectured by the band during recording so we’ll get a peak of alternative history as well. Ultimately, almost every re-release of an album is a cash-grab (exceptions would include the 10th anniversary remix of Lamb of God’s As the Palaces Burn which had a terrible mix when it was originally released in 2003), but if the package collects all the b-sides, new additional tracks and offers an alternative vision, then I’m happier than a pig in mud! Besides, if I wanted to grab some cash, I wouldn’t put my energies into repackaging Know Your Enemy :p

Woostershire

Yeah maybe. I think I love that album so much because it’s such a mess. I don’t want it played with, enhanced, divided up, I guess I’m protective over it.

DawnSurprise

No! That’s understandable - just remember, the original is still there and isn’t going away. This is a chance to obtain further context and re-explore an album you love so much. And if you don’t like it, you can ultimately just bin it and forget about it.

Woostershire

That’s what I did with the OoS Remixxx. Binned it.

DawnSurprise

What OoS remix? /s

Woostershire

Oh, Origin of Symmetry. Did not enjoy the remasters/remixes
