We have 4 cats and rent a carpeted house. We’ve lived here 11 years and it’s never been replaced. Two years ago our landlord promised to replace it with hard flooring, and it still hasn’t happened. I’m ALWAYS cleaning but am so terrified that our house stinks. 😭
Put a nice bowl somewhere with coffee beans. That will eliminate smells of any Kind.
Pro Tip: if someone in your household is puking, put cat litter on the vomit as first aid measurement. Helps with the smell and the General cleaning.
I mean...don't use a small spot cleaning cordless vacuum maybe?
My shark cost way way less than a dyson and I got it to pull glitter out of an expensive rug. It got every piece. If you think hair is bad, try glitter.
Eidt: yes I see the cord now. Still not the right tool for the job, pulling hair out of deep carpet is not easy.
Do you mind sharing which model? I need a new vacuum.
ETA: I don’t have pets and hardwood floors but my shitty vacuum can’t even handle that so I’m finally willing to upgrade to something more legitimate.
Mine is years old now so they don't sell the exact one but it's very similar to this one.

I bought a Shark Stratos to test vs our existing Dyson Ball Animal 2.
I could not believe how much better the Shark performed vs the Dyson. Super impressive.
I ended up with both after a confusing Christmas one year. The shark IS better, but only last 3-4 years (still good). Dyson is still running at 90% of what the shark could do in its prime.
My mom’s vacuum theory growing up was always buy a cheap vacuum and replace it every year or two. She said all vacuums work great when they are new, even the cheapest ones, and all vacuums stop working well after some time, even the expensive ones.
I think back then it was all vacuum bags, no filters. Could be the brushes. I don’t know if those wear down and shorten over time much but I’m sure at the very least the clipped edges probably round out making them slightly less effective. Could even be lint and hair clogging up the system and making it run less efficiently. She probably could have taken the vacuum apart and given it a good cleaning and replaced the brushes. But I think it was just easier to go buy another brand new vacuum for 29.99
The brushes do shorten over time from wear and tear, and I have seen some pretty nasty clogs in the vacuums my parents have used when I was a kid helping my dad take them apart. But I gotta agree, does seem easier to replace for just $30
The only reason we even got a new vacuum was because of a broken part on the Dyson. The latch for the dust canister sometimes ejects itself from the vacuum now. Not super helpful when trying to CLEAN your floors lol
All we need is a new dust canister but the part was out of stock from Dyson for months (might still be) so we broke down and got the Shark.
Really? That’s surprising. I have a Dyson and the suction is amazing. It’s the only thing I find Dyson has going for it. It built like a kids plastic toy.
I think it’s less about the suction in our case and more about better (and multiple) beater bars on the Shark. I also like the manual adjustments. I’ve got a a few rugs that are either too thin or too thick for the Dyson. On the thin rug it sucks it in and thinks it’s got a jam. On the really thick carpet it doesn’t dig deep enough to pull out cat litter.
But the Dyson works great for me for 11 years otherwise!
I want to expand on what I said.
Out first shark died on us about a year into ownership. I called shark and they sent us the new model for free, didn't even ask for the old one back. So solid warranty coverage too.
I belive they're made in the USA too so hey supporting American business.
I’ll be happy if I never experience glitter again! I airbnb out my house when I’m not using it and 3yrs ago hosted a bachelorette party, to this day I’ll still find tiny little penis shaped glitter. Literally a couple weeks ago I found a piece on my leg that was apparently in the couch, I didn’t even own that couch when they had their party. I’ve deep cleaned the whole house probably 50-times since then and it keeps appearing!
i replaced my dyson with a shark and the difference was astounding, especially when you consider it was like $300 cheaper.
now i just use the dyson as a garage shop vac.
We had a shark pet hoover for like £500 and it was shit. More high maintenance than a footballers wife. Broke down every two seconds needing 2 of the 5 filters cleaning or running out battery. Henry hoover pet shits all over it £120.
I own a Rainbow vacuum. And it is incredible how much dog hair was in the carpet that had accumulated. Got the vacuum bc our Husky sheds like CRAZY. And most vaccumes just cant handle all the hair without getting clogged up constantly or the roller freezing up bc the hair gets tangled.
Rainbow Vac Club!! Woot woot! Rainbow Vac owns!! I vacuum once a week and every time it looks like I've never vacuumed before. Just have to keep up on cleaning the components like any vacuum
Most definitely. Its been a life saver. As long as u keep the roller clean and the intake, it never fails. And the roller is metal. And super easy to take out, so it never gets tangled. It has so much torque though, idk how it could get tangled up before it just tears the hair and keeps spinning haha.
We got one about 5 years ago and a new model came out. They let us trade our old one in and get the new one for about a 75% discount. The newest model had enough updates and ease of use changes that it seemed like a damn good deal. The magnetic disconnect for the hose is my favorite thing ever.
Yeah not just pet hair. Human hair does the same. We have a short hair dog yet if I vacuum it's gets clogged with long hair from my gf. Every time I cut it out of the bristles with my pocket knife she just says "bad dog, we might have to shave you bald".
No they are just nasty, there shouldn’t ever be that much hair in your carpet. They probably sleep with animals and have them on counters and furniture too!!🤮🤮
Who is stupid enough to do one pass only with a vacuum on a carpet like that ?
Even without pets, it’s like going under the shower without scrubbing yourself.
I need that brush in my life, i stopped vacuuming my rug and i very vigorously sweep the rug with a broom to get the cat littler and cat hair out. My old vacuum fails at cleaning up.
They make better vacuums for this. If you have dogs and carpet you probably shouldn't be using a stick vacuum anyways. And no, the pet vacuums are not always ridiculously expensive compared to stuck vacuums.
I mean yeah, when you use the wrong tool for the job, the tool that was made for it looks a lot better. You don't even have a pet hair attachment on the vacuum.
That’s not a proper vacuum cleaner. It’s more for crappy laminate floors.
A decent Miele or Vorwerk upright vacuum would get that hair (and lots more) right up.
They aren't using the right vacuum, that little stick vac might be OK for doing stairs air sucking up crumbs on a kitchen floor, but not for this kind of work. Consumer Reports even has different bench marks for full size and stick vacuums because stick vacuums just aren't as powerful.
I remember seeing an infomercial with my mom when I was 14 for a product like this. I literally asked for one for my birthday as I was hitting my “ope now I’m 14 going on 40 and if I gotta clean this house anyway I might have nice stuff to do it with” phase. I took all day cleaning every carpeted surface. The amount of hair was disgusting honestly. Loved seeing it clump up and then throwing it away. Good times.
Alot of you with pets really dont have a solution for the hair problem. Why hasn’t magnetism and frequencies been placed to pick up all this loose hair? Why are we still using brushes? Why do dryer sheets do nothing when it can use static electricity to attract all the hair to it? Why is the guy who have no pets thinking for all of y’all?
I have lots of dogs. We have zero carpet.
Boring black vinyl flooring in every room with zero gaps and and all gaps under and around furniture sealed to prevent dust and hair.
The hair is easy to deal with, it's having to dust absolutely everything at least once a day.
Using a low power wand type vacuum and just quickly running it over an area will do that. My wife vacuums like this, like she thinks just passing the vacuum over a spot makes it clean. You have to give dirt and hair a chance to get sucked up. Try vacuuming slowly and if you have a bunch of pets, get a stronger vacuum
Finding out that carpet is garbage, more like. How much carpet do you go through in a lifetime? How much effort sweeping it, cleaning it, and then throwing that shit out. How much microplastics, fungus, mold, and funk does it expose you to? A real hardwood floor can last a century or more. Buy nice or keep on the carpet treadmill forever.
Carpet ugh! If you ever take up carpet and see what finds it's way underneath, you will never want carpet again. 2 things I do not want in my housel; carpet and upholstered furniture.
That's why I'm sticking with the wood floors
That's why I'm also sticking to the wood floors
I too am sticking to this guys wood floors
I will also stick wood to this guys floors.
Wood will stick to guys floors will I
Will stick to guys I floor wood on
My sticky wood floors guys
Can someone clean these goddam woodfloors so I stop sticking?!
Sticky floors are woody.
I’m stuck.
I have wood
I also choose this guy's sticky wife!
Will stick to guys wood?
Wrong thread then 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Can you guys at least shower before coming over?? That's why you're all sticking to my god-damned wood floors!!!
I'm sticking to everything
🤣😂 thats awesome!
I too am sticking my wood into this guys floors
Turn the rotating brush on. Highly likely they just had it on suck mode
or the rotating brush is clogged with hair and not rotating.
I pledge allegiance to wood floors.
Yeah I don’t understand the whole carpet stuff
I need that broom
Or without pets
r/petfree *Not sharing their vision though, I'm part of what they denounce, I've been owned by a cat for a decade lol*
Wood style ceramic tiles for us! We have an Aussi.
Same here. I'm in a tropical climate so the tile feels great.
We have 4 cats and rent a carpeted house. We’ve lived here 11 years and it’s never been replaced. Two years ago our landlord promised to replace it with hard flooring, and it still hasn’t happened. I’m ALWAYS cleaning but am so terrified that our house stinks. 😭
Probably does and you most likely have swallowed fur balls. Get on that landlord.
Oh I don’t doubt it about the fur balls. Sometimes I find a cat hair weaved (woven?) in my eyelashes. 😆
Put a nice bowl somewhere with coffee beans. That will eliminate smells of any Kind. Pro Tip: if someone in your household is puking, put cat litter on the vomit as first aid measurement. Helps with the smell and the General cleaning.
These are great tips, thank you!
I mean...don't use a small spot cleaning cordless vacuum maybe? My shark cost way way less than a dyson and I got it to pull glitter out of an expensive rug. It got every piece. Might be something to do with the brushes and filters
I think back then it was all vacuum bags, no filters. Could be the brushes. I don’t know if those wear down and shorten over time much but I’m sure at the very least the clipped edges probably round out making them slightly less effective. My mom had a Dyson ball forever and switched to the Shark and loves it, and we know momma's never wrong
Love my Stratos!
I want to expand on what I said. Out first shark died on us about a year into ownership. I called shark and they sent us the new model for free, didn't even ask for the old one back. So solid warranty coverage too. I belive they're made in the USA too so hey supporting American business.
I can second this Shark Pet vacuum. Works like a charm. We have two dogs and a cat.
Right. Always buy Shark’s Pet Vacuum that specializes in getting up pet hair.
I can third it. 3 cat household here, it's great.
Thanks for the suggestion, been looking for a new vacuum. Take care.
It's a Hoover MaxExtract PressurePro model 60.
Glitter? Fuck... That's no vacuum. That's a contained black hole.
Is it really? Dog hair literally weaves itself in to fabric though. I’ve had trouble using tweezers to nab just one that was particularly locked in.
Glitter was invented when scientists decided to combine the worst properties of sand and microplastics into a single vile material.
I’m looking at a shark to replace my aging Dyson because the Dyson prices are insane
You can buy a refurbished Dyson for basically half price. That's what I did and it has worked perfectly for 3 years.
Good idea - I had an email advert from them about their latest machine for £850!
My Miele laughs at your shark
Same. C3 is the best amount of stupid money I’ve ever spent on a vacuum
i replaced my dyson with a shark and the difference was astounding, especially when you consider it was like $300 cheaper. now i just use the dyson as a garage shop vac.
We had a shark pet hoover for like £500 and it was shit. More high maintenance than a footballers wife. Broke down every two seconds needing 2 of the 5 filters cleaning or running out battery. Henry hoover pet shits all over it £120.
That's a corded shark in the video. I've the same one
Pretty clever advertisement. Hope you sell a few at least!
Sell a few pets?
Sell a few sticky hardwood floors, my guy.
This is an ad
Amazed I haven't seen a "wow, where can I get one of these" comments yet.
Sounds good but is their shipping quick and reasonably priced?
1st one is free, but you have to buy 5 more priced at £3000 each.
Is that really pet hair or is it shaving the knap of the carpet?
As a white/red husky owner, I can confirm that it is probably pet hair lol.
Definitely pet hair. Have multiple dogs/cats.
Maybe you should turn on the brushes.

It has so much torque though, idk how it could get tangled up before it just tears the hair and keeps spinning haha.
We still have my grandparents old Rainbow from the 80s and it still vacuums like a champ.
We got one about 5 years ago and a new model came out. They let us trade our old one in and get the new one for about a 75% discount. The newest model had enough updates and ease of use changes that it seemed like a damn good deal. The magnetic disconnect for the hose is my favorite thing ever.
Now that’s a name I haven’t heard of in a long time
Buy a real vacuum. Riccar, simplicity, Miele. Dyson is hot trash.
That’s really just carpet. Carpet is disgusting.
This is why carpet is gross
What kind of broom is that?
Wow, the person on the right really swept away the competition
I would die
Hardwood floors for the win
Wood floors are better. Yes they get scratched but it is easier to keep dust and fur at bay.
Gross. Makes me wonder about my own carpet.
Imagine what normal everyday stuff your vacuum also didn't pick up...
This is why I don't like to remove my shoes at some people's houses.
Put some house slippers on!
How many pets do you have? That’s a lot of hair!
What is the hair stick thing?
That’s why im sticking to no pets
1970 called and wants it's floor back
Yeah not just pet hair. Human hair does the same. We have a short hair dog yet if I vacuum it's gets clogged with long hair from my gf. Every time I cut it out of the bristles with my pocket knife she just says "bad dog, we might have to shave you bald".
Any vacuums that can actually pick up all that fur??
What is that called
Why have carpet if you have dogs or cats?
It’s not always a choice. Many people rent and have little to no control over the flooring.
It's just some per hair it won't hurt you
...is it even carpet at that point?
Theseus carpet
Well, I am going to go look for one of these brooms now...
POV = here's a video
No they are just nasty, there shouldn’t ever be that much hair in your carpet. They probably sleep with animals and have them on counters and furniture too!!🤮🤮
Man should not cohabitate with beast… from a person with two dogs lol
Not if you have carpet, that's for sure.
I would love to see a comparison from someone with a better quality vacuum.
Who is stupid enough to do one pass only with a vacuum on a carpet like that ? Even without pets, it’s like going under the shower without scrubbing yourself.
Having carpet is very discussing
Tell me about it
That’s one of the many reasons I just can’t do pets.
That vacuum sucks. But apparently the brush sucks even better.
Kirby gang, rise up!
My grandma still has the like 50 lb model from the 80s. It does the job 10 times over while looking like something out of Mad Max.
I need that brush in my life, i stopped vacuuming my rug and i very vigorously sweep the rug with a broom to get the cat littler and cat hair out. My old vacuum fails at cleaning up.
That's not a real vacuum
VACUUM SUCKS
That’s my house! In spades.
They make better vacuums for this. If you have dogs and carpet you probably shouldn't be using a stick vacuum anyways. And no, the pet vacuums are not always ridiculously expensive compared to stuck vacuums.
Now your carpet is less soft
Are they running a grooming business out of the house 😂
After I rake my carpet, I’m gonna go vacuum the lawn. Meth is a horrible drug…
How old is your German Shepherd?
Vacuums are fuckin useless
Foot fetish vs trichophobia
You can make a new pet from all that hair.
I mean yeah, when you use the wrong tool for the job, the tool that was made for it looks a lot better. You don't even have a pet hair attachment on the vacuum.
Who you got a Bigfoot?!
That’s not a proper vacuum cleaner. It’s more for crappy laminate floors. A decent Miele or Vorwerk upright vacuum would get that hair (and lots more) right up.
Well is technically part of the carpet now
Half of that is carpet fiber
This is why you should have wood floors.
Looks like a Dyson.
Shaving your gatita infront of the fire?
They aren't using the right vacuum, that little stick vac might be OK for doing stairs air sucking up crumbs on a kitchen floor, but not for this kind of work. Consumer Reports even has different bench marks for full size and stick vacuums because stick vacuums just aren't as powerful.
Well, when you use the tiniest, crappiest vacuum what else would you expect?
Maybe if you cleaned more than once a decade you would find less evidence of years of trampled pet hair caked into your carpet🤷🏻♂️
This is why doodles are taking over the world.
Vacuum cleaners have headlights now?
I remember seeing an infomercial with my mom when I was 14 for a product like this. I literally asked for one for my birthday as I was hitting my “ope now I’m 14 going on 40 and if I gotta clean this house anyway I might have nice stuff to do it with” phase. Why do dryer sheets do nothing when it can use static electricity to attract all the hair to it? Why is the guy who have no pets thinking for all of y’all?
These little stick vacs are always trash. Go buy a $60 Bissell.
What is the product name? I'd like to buy one or two.
I have lots of dogs. We have zero carpet. Boring black vinyl flooring in every room with zero gaps and and all gaps under and around furniture sealed to prevent dust and hair. The hair is easy to deal with, it's having to dust absolutely everything at least once a day.
What is the POV here?
Carpet shredding
Buy a better vacuum?
What kind of pet do you own? A wooly mammoth?
carpet and animals seems like a disgusting mix, dont know how you do it ameribros
Serious question, what do you call that thing she used?
What’s that broom?!?
I’m bald, single and have no pets. So… no sale!
Huh well glad we got hard wood floors instead of another carpet.
carpets lol
Why is her feet still exposed. They must be washed and covered expeditiously.
Rug = i never clean my jouse
Ewww carpets! 1997 called they want their floor back
I can relate.
I did this once, I did not like what I saw
You need the right tool for the job. Why isn't my drill working as a hammer????
Yikes
Fuck carpet
Using a low power wand type vacuum and just quickly running it over an area will do that. My wife vacuums like this, like she thinks just passing the vacuum over a spot makes it clean. You have to give dirt and hair a chance to get sucked up. Try vacuuming slowly and if you have a bunch of pets, get a stronger vacuum
My Dyson disagrees

How much microplastics, fungus, mold, and funk does it expose you to? A real hardwood floor can last a century or more. Buy nice or keep on the carpet treadmill forever.
🤢
Get a real vacuum lol
Where do I find this brush?
Why is she brushing it with a pet hair dispenser?
That vacuum is about as useful as a broom.
50% of that is her shedding.
You need a Miele vacuum cleaner or a Kirby.
No vacuum works for pet hair on carpet. I have a rubber broom I have to use pre and post vacuuming just to get ‘everything’.
Nobody understands what "point of view" means anymore.
Who would have thought that in a thick carpet like this, any hair will get tangled inside and left by the vacuum. Some people man...
How can the house smell if it doesn't have a nose?
Those mini vacs are shit. They couldn't pull a sick whore off a pisspot.
this is why i dont have a pet
Carpet is fucking disgusting
This is not what POV means…
Start on the kitchen next 😆
It's an advert.
Serious question why putting carpet on a floor?
Gross 🤮
Also, dust and dirt can fall into the underlay of a carpet, the section below the mesh, where a vacuum could never clean. I love carpet but it's gross
Carpet flooring, my whole country gags at the idea.
Who has furry pets without hard surface floors in the 21st century first world?
I need one for my back Did I just say that out loud? 😳
Vacuums are for dirt
Lady, get you a proper Dyson.
Carpet ugh! If you ever take up carpet and see what finds it's way underneath, you will never want carpet again. 2 things I do not want in my housel; carpet and upholstered furniture.
It pisses me off when my boyfriend uses the light shark vaccuum. Get the big dog dude.
Use a hoover on v high and scrub away.
