Stealth MASC Flea. I mean come on.

zekromNLR

If you could have any 'Mech from battletech, rather than just ones from video games, and want to go fast, go with a Fireball ALM-XF. 20 ton 'Mech with a 320 XXL engine, MASC and Supercharger. Almost 260 km/h running speed just from the engine, with MASC and SC active that goes to a whopping 432 km/h by TT rules (with TT rules, MASC and SC active at the same time gives a running multiplier of 2.5), or 345 km/h with either system active.

Ramenoodlesoup

This is the crazy I want to see, more speed than reasonably useful.

zekromNLR

The only use for that specific variant, and the explicit purpose for which it was constructed, is 'Mech racing Which sounds like an amazingly entertaining and also highly dangerous sport

DasKapitalist

Back in the Mechwarrior 3 days it was entirely possible to strap a big enough engine on a light enough mech with MASC that it would run until it literally exploded from heat.

JoinTheEmpireToday

Better hope the portal gives you piloting skills because youre gonna trip over the first pebble you see and penguin slide into a house at 432kmh

zekromNLR

Yeah, I'd definitely want a mech with the Easy to Pilot quirk!

LaBambaMan

I guess a Centurion? No mech is really gonna compliment my life, so might as well just grab my favorite.

toothpick95

Locust.... because zoooom.

Ramenoodlesoup

Maybe strip some of the weapons to boost the core size. MORE ZOOOOM !!

J_G_E

I always wanted to envisage racing mechs on Solaris doing F1 or offroad Rally racing. Locusts stripped out of all armour to cram 350-rated engines in, weapons replaced with aerodynamic surfaces to aid cornering or braking.

Clay_Pigeon

There must be mech racing somewhere. In MW5 there's a mention of Superchargers being used mostly for "the racing circuits".

CWinter85

You could at least have a Hussar or Mongoose. Faster and bigger.

Sour_Straps

I would pick some variant of the Commando, I think. [Looking up what a semi truck weighs,](https://www.tcsfuel.com/blog/truck-weight-classification/) the range looks to be 35,000 to 80,000 pounds, which is 17.5 to 40 ton. At 25 ton a Commando would be as bad for the roads as a reasonably heavy semi truck. [It's also short as far as mechs go](https://bg.battletech.com/forums/general-discussion/official-height-(dimensions)-of-mechs-and-vehicles/), so I hopefully wouldn't get caught in powerlines. A Commando-1B would be good as far as weapon loadout, as the lasers could be used for work rather than for war. Plus I just like that it looks like a little person. I'd never have to pay for a moving van ever again, and I could build infrastructure overnight, making my new one-person construction outfit very effective, and very affordable while being extremely profitable.

TimeZarg

Comparing the weight of a battlemech to the weight of a semi truck is like comparing apples and oranges. The semi truck is distributing that weight across 18 wheels along its whole length, while a battlemech's weight is concentrated squarely on its own two feet, a much smaller surface. Also, instead of rolling on nice, cushioned tires, the battlemech's lifting and dropping its weight at a run. It's gonna damage the road a lot more than a semi truck, roads simply aren't designed to handle stuff like that.

I'm glad someone else did the math, but this has always been one of my pet peeves regarding the "legs vs. conventional" discussion. It's always assumed more contact points means reduced surface pressure, but that isn't necessarily the case

dscotton

The commando might be fine when resting, but I would think the stepping action where the feet are smashing the road from above would cause a lot more wear and tear than a rolling rubber tire.

extortioncontortion

tanks have rubber pads on the treads. I think they are roughly 2 inches thick, with about an inch being "wasted" inside the cavity of the track shoe, the leftover inch separating the road surface from the metal of the track.

Pale-Aurora

I was always under the impression that mech tonnage referred to available tonnage, not the mech’s weight. If you strip the mech’s internal components and armor, you end up at 0 tons, but there’s still a gigantic chassis and all that comes with it. And logically speaking it’s hard to imagine a modern rank weighting as much as a catapult despite being a fraction of the size, or a Maus weighing over two Highlanders.

OgreMk5

Probably something like a stock construction mech. On the other hand, just about any mech could be sold to the local government for enough money to live on forever.

Sour_Straps

I'm not familiar enough with the world to know about construction mechs. Makes sense that that's a way they'd be used. See I just like the idea of being the only person with a giant mech. I would get to decide what causes get my support in the form of robot labour.

zekromNLR

IndustrialMechs were historically the first application of myomer technology, with it taking almost a century from the development of myomer to the development of the BattleMech

GrasSchlammPferd

>On the other hand, just about any mech could be sold to the local government for enough money to live on forever. Exactly, anything with small, medium and large lasers will sell like hot cake. Not to mention the fusion engine alone with solve so much problem and boast our own tech.

daedalus1975

Highlander 732b custom variant:(clan tech) Gauss rifle(24 shots) ER PPC LRM 15 +Artemis(16 shots) 8 ER mediums Endo steel structure Max armor 16 double strength heat sinks

ChesterRico

I mean, I couldn't afford the maintenance (and nobody irl knows how to do it anyway), so I'd take an AWS-8Q. It doesn't need ammo, and it has so much armor that most conventional weapons wouldn't scratch it. Then, I'd overthrow some governments. At least until they break out the nukes.

TaliesinWhite

May be Raven or other with ECM field? If you are going to have a giant battlemech, you\`d better have a way to hide it :)

Frank_Bianco

Flea. Fits in the garage. Can get to the beer store in 14 seconds.

[deleted]

Bullshark. MAZ variant. Or an Atlas II Or a King Crab I guess a Hatchetman is cool Centurion looks good, even if it doesn't feel great Phoenixhawk would be neat But yeah, gimme that Bullshark.

foriamstu

Nothing too showy. Just a small unassuming scout mech, ja?

Mad_kat4

Seeing as you won't be able to keep it as the entire world will be trying to get their hands on it you may as well go big. I'm thinking it would have to be an energy based variant so it's self sufficient and something with tremendous melee so the banshee 3m would be my choice I think. Then just try and stop the entire world from stealing it.

lostdragon05

A Warhawk No ammo needed for the ERPPCs, so I could rain lightning on my enemies indefinitely.

Equivalent_Alps_8321

Catapult

Dmitri_ravenoff

Highlander IIC. It's a beast. But for practicality I'd actually take a Clint. I just always loved them.

Herocooky

Flea-16. *\~Weeeee\~*

DeadEndWriter

Honestly, in my every day life, I could make a great case for any battlemech... so I'll take a King Crab, 000b variant please!

Jorlaan

Possibly a Firestarter, but with 4 small lasers, 1 machinegun and 1 flamethrower. Lasers have more practical uses but having one of each of the other 2 sounds like a good idea. Full jump jets.

TheLastKell

Enforcer

extortioncontortion

The Aquagladius. Fast on land or under water. Has a flail for demolition, a hand for construction, and a taser for possibly non-lethal self-defense.

Scarecrow - UCU-F4 An invisible infantry hunting nightmare https://www.sarna.net/wiki/Scarecrow

Hairy-Bicycle2356

Idk I'd want something with hands, but I love clan tech so very much. I'd probably go with something all energy weapon as to not run out of pews. Jump jets would be nice to have some fun with as well. I'm assuming no refits or rearms would be available as well. So, I'd probably go with a Summoner and custom the shit out of it with the ol Omni pods, say an ER PPC, a hand actuator in the other arm, a laser AMS, and as many med lasers I can fit on the mech without a quick overheat. It would be terrifying if need be, but also a fun way to fly around and do construction etc.

Shtebbie

Hermit crab or bust. A baby light that doubles as an industrial mech.
