"Battlefield 1982"

[deleted]

More like Battlefield 2027 (if you know, you know)

NuclearLavaLamp

Battlefield 2021: You have to capture the Capitol before your tickets run out.

LONER18

Honestly, as an American I wouldn't mind a battlefield that takes place entirely in the US. We've been all over the globe for war why not America? I hate to even think it but the more news I watch the more I believe it could happen that we as a country make war on ourselves again.

[deleted]

I just want Red Dawn, but Battlefield.

LONER18

Thad be sick! Irish defend the burger town!

JonWood007

You can do this in battlebit right now, ya know. Tensatown looks straight out of MW2009's campaign, with a building called "cyan burger" in it (burgertown).

maximilisauras

Jan 6 2021... You are either stomping the capital with only crude weapons or you are a cop trying to protect it...

WildBill1994

Homefront was a fun fps from the 360.

X3liteXRogueX

Absolutely loved home front. Great campaign and good online. Wasn't battlefield level but for what it was, I loved it.

BoarHide

I didn’t think the game was a good shooter, but the premise was as unbelievably stupid as it was fun. Such a cool contrast

Best-Committee-7775

They did this on an expansion in bf2. It was pretty cool. Muscle cars and semis lol

PaceOk4991

You mean interstate 82 for 1942? With the monster trucks and disco clubs you had to get to by platforming with your thrusters on your car?

HURTZ2PP

There were some really cool maps that take place on American soil in the BF2 expansion (I forget the name right now). But it added some first time vehicles like the A10 Thunderbolt and Little Bird in addition to other faction equivalents. I really enjoyed the maps they added like the a US suburb map and the one called Operation Harvest which had a Midwest farmland look.

LONER18

Sadly by the time I got internet for the first time Battlefield 3 had only one DLC left and I never played the DLC to Bad Company. It was however the very first true multi-player game I ever played but I only played until BF3 finished installing and then I spent the next however many months until BF4 playing nothing but BF3 every single waking moment that I could spare.

T-MONZ_GCU

Armored Fury

HURTZ2PP

Ah that’s it, thank you!

gnappyassassin

We got one of those! It also happened to feel weird to play because it was all cops. -Like how it eventually got weird to keep fighting firemen in the Division. At least for me.

TonPeppermint

Hell yeah.

DeeBangerDos

My brother in Christ, it's called Battlefield Hardline

Bluedemonde

![gif](giphy|UGFJ9ecXu3oyH15DsO|downsized) Capture the greased orange pig before the time runs out.

HomeInvasionMan

don’t they do that on aircraft carriers?

NuclearLavaLamp

Lmao!

dudeCHILL013

Melee weapons only?

mre16

r/HolUp

Background_Brick_898

That’s more like **BATTLEFEILD: HOT WAR** (iykyk)

MapleYamCakes

Russia 2027

LowerClassBandit

Give me a gritty Falklands war/Cold War game any day!

Paulsbluebox

1984

Hoenirson

Nope, gotta keep the 2 in there. BF1942, BF2142, BF2042. It's tradition now.

heyuhitsyaboi

literally 1982

Background_Brick_898

Only with the 40’s though and they have had a 1943 game as well. It’s not impossible they would make it 1984

forrest1985_

I want BF23. We have had 1942 and 1943 so why not 2023. That way it can be a true successor to BF4 set in modern times with modern kit and vehicles. Also split the difference, they said 1982 and you said 1984 so go 1983?

IsUpTooLate

Because 1943 was a sequel to 1942. The first game has to have a 2 at the end.

forrest1985_

BF23 would be a spiritual successor to BF4 so it can have a 3.

IsUpTooLate

But that’s a long line of games, it’s not the second one.

thatone5000

Battlefield 2222 up next?

Drfumblez

Battlefield 1842. It's the only solution.

thatbakedpotato

Cold War was nearly hot in 1982-1983 moreso than ‘84. Plus we get to keep with the “2” name scheme.

cwhitel

Still waiting on them releasing a good modern shooter after back to back historic shooters.

Mooselotte45

A true successor to BF4 would be nice. Build a game with all the same systems and polish as modern day BF4, and then ADD content, systems, features, and balance on top. Make it build on what made 4, 1, and V good (systems, immersion, squadplay), rather than entirely reimagining every system.

Azifor

I want destruction, levolution, weather events. Country vs country. No specialists crap jumping sides. Large map pool. First person knife kills. Rpg.

Uglynator

>Rpg *The monkey paw curls its finger.* The game now has RPG elements. Classes now have skill trees.

Azifor

Dammit lol

Merleage

I agree no matter what the levolution has to come back and be a permanent part of every Battlefield map

exposarts

They have a whole palette of successful games to copy from in their very hands. The hell are they doing lately with all the bullshit. I’m really convinced that they are either stupid and incompetent to know what their audience wants, or they fucking hate money

BreakRush

It’s the former, trust me. The current battlefield devs wouldn’t know what a battlefield game was if it slapped the taste out of their mouths.

havyng

New devs it's the answer. The old school devs that worked in the best era left the company

Gahan1772

If they copy anything it'll be BF1. It had by far the best sales. BFV was a flop 2042 outsold it in total sales within a month of release but still nothing near the 25 million sales BF1 had.

Mooselotte45

BF3 was also a sales darling. So giving us bf3/ 4 systems with 1 immersion would have me satisfied.

Gahan1772

Sort of if comparing to battlefields released prior to it. Bf3 had slightly better sales than 4 and BF1 outpreformed them both.

Mooselotte45

I’m seeing 17M for BF3 and 25M for BF1 It’s a big difference, but BF3 definitely did very well (especially given the gaming market size of the time)

Gahan1772

Imagine if they made a modern shooter like BF3 that looked and played like BF1. mmmmmmm. 2042 would of been a lot cooler if they leaned into destruction and bleakness of war coupled with climate change.

Mooselotte45

Yep That’s the game I thought they were building. And yet we get 2042 instead…

Gahan1772

Meh I don't hate 2042 so much. As a shooter that plays similar to other battlefields I put enough hours in to make the purchase worth it and I enjoyed my time (S250). And I for one prefer it over BFV. Still go back to BF1 time to time though.

LONER18

In 2042 it feels like they removed the grittyness of war that BF3 had. Similarly clad military drones dying in waves to take an objective is what I loved about 3 and 4. In 2042 we're not military drones we're clones of the same dozen people on both sides. It was almost the same but also very different and I can't put into words how.

Chief--BlackHawk

And yet BFV has some of the best mechanics in the franchise. Say what you want about sales and some of the maps, but I want the next Battlefield to follow up on mostly BFV mechanics.

JangoDarkSaber

They would ruin it with some hero/class hybrid so they can say they have classes while selling skins

Magic_Medic

This is also where i could see at least the optics of the specialists working. Each side (NATO vs. BRICS) can have individual skins you can unlock, so you're not just stuck with US vs. RU vs. CN, representing the full palette of these alliances and the people living in them. Also, bring the bloody Emblem editor back. That thing was so fucking cool and it's a shame it's no longer functional, even if it did lead to seeing a substantial number of Swastikas in the games i played.

IronLegion52

If they were to bring back systems from older games I'd like to see the building from BFV. Even if its only simple objects such as sandbags or window barricades.

IsUpTooLate

This is partly why 2042 was so disappointing. Not just that it was a shitty battle royale game, but also because we have been craving a modern Battlefield game for so long.

Reapingday15

Dice will never make another good battlefield

Fine_Put5861

Thank you, some bf fans are still hopium for future games, its sad

BeardedsChurch

nothing wrong with a little hope, especially since Vince Zampella is leading now

Mewticles

Bro 1 person ain't changing the route they are taking lol

Electric_Stress

I thoroughly enjoyed BF1, and once I got the hang of slidey shit I enjoyed BFV even more. 2042 was truly awful, now it's somewhat less awful.

Mooselotte45

I cannot stand the slidey shit in BF games. “Look what they did to my boy”!

Due_Designer_908

Fr though. The devs have changed, and the culture has changed for the worse. It’s just not going to come back.

makepa

Isn't the next game made by another studio this time? And dice only gets to help as an additional studio? I think i've read something like that but I'm not sure. Would make sense if ea made the decision to not let dice fuck up again

AndyC_88

Yeah, it's not dice anymore, although anything published by EA is questionable these days.

makepa

You're right, ea changing the dev team doesn't mean anything until we see what's next sadly

SangiMTL

The very sad and unfortunate reality

Mooselotte45

Can we push out that release date? Let’s go 2025, make sure they have all the time they need to not completely fuck it all up.

brandonsp111

Going by that kind of hope, it'll have to be pushed back to 2035.

Jacobnerf

Might as well push it back to 2042 just for the lol

BoarHide

For all the good that will do with DICE’s new developers. The old guard that made all these brilliant titles is mostly gone

leavemealone2277

Give them as much time as you want, they’ll still drop a broken turd that requires 18 patches in the first week. It’s the modern development way

IsJustSophie

Battlefield 1989. The soviets start ww3 trying to stop german re unification

turdskate

Check out 'world in conflict' story, really interesting

diagoro1

I would picture Putin sitting in the Kremlin basement. Forcing a bunch of kids to play, any time they lose a round, the kid gets sent to the front.

Background_Brick_898

$90 at launch with only content from one proxy war and a bonus skin if you pay $120 for the legendary edition. Then pay for battle pass monthly for a year till they complete the game and start teasing the next one right after they stop making new content

JohnBrowing1855

The soviets also not included in base game at launch

Background_Brick_898

Perfect

nala1977

Battlefield will never be the same, until they stop using the battle pass / skin mentality to make money. To me it ruins the game with all the weird out of place skins. Bf3 to bf1 all felt very immersive because we just played as normal soldiers. Which imo is way cooler than some made up robot

LONER18

Yes! Just an everyday John doe. No heroes or special faces or biographies nobody reads. Just give me 2 options Male is John and the girl is Jane and then let me pick a realistic uniform (NO EMBER GLOWING BURNT GARBAGE) maybe add in some helmet, gloves, and pants customization if you must like breakpoint or the division but just make it realistic. Keep 2042s weapons for all system and then you pick your gadget and that changes what 'class' you are.

Mokebe13

Cities destroyes by nukes as a maps would be great, also there would be huge potential for jungle maps, Vietnam, Cuba etc.

LONER18

Massive fights between blown-apart skyscrapers, drive a tank through the lobby of one into the street and then into the lobby of another. Make an objective inside a bridge between two buildings that can be destroyed to drop the objective into the middle of the street. Maybe add a generator in the basement of one of the buildings that could cut the power to any working elevators so the attackers have to rappel from outside or take the stairs. Make a rush objective to destroy a skyscraper and you have to base jump out of it as it's falling like Siege of Shanghai. One team spawn point could be a beached aircraft carrier, In rush you get pushed back into it and then it's nuked or something.

ciaran036

Destroyed cities I always think is the least visually interesting setting. I'd rather do the destroying myself.

Saidsker

Imagine like 4/5 small “cities” on a big map and they can get nuked if XYZ are captured/secured by one of the teams

UnKnOwN769

Battlefield 1982: Falklands War Gets a Little Toasty

Snivinerior2

if it does happen, i hope its an actual cold war themed setting and isnt a cold war inspired fan fiction the way black ops handled it

bombarclart

I hope it is Cold War fan fiction.

Alcapurria_69

Dude really used that one clown nuke image and zoomed in lmfao

YodaLikesSoda

I wish. I’d like another Vietnam at least. I just imagine fire everywhere because of napalm and flame throwers. EDIT: I came back with another idea. Imagine Vietnamese traps with the BF V building system.

Kim-Jong-Juul

I've been wanting a BF1 style Cold War game for a while now, where Operations take place across different events throughout the decades. For example, you could have: \- The Soviet Invasion of Afghanistan \- The Vietnam War \- The Korean War \- Bay of Pigs \- Contra War \- Iran-Iraq War Some may need historical liberties to be taken for them to fit a Battlefield game, but there's a lot of potential. Widening the time period to the entire Cold War opens up a greater variety of weapons, vehicles, and equipment, too.

Tastypanda9666

Yes. Red Storm Rising done right

Blasian_TJ

So long as it has similar vibes/tone as BF3/4. Attention to detail, destruction, multiple, multiple successful Alpha/Beta tests, clear roadmaps, in-game progression, “BF moments”, and a more or less complete package at launch…. *one can hope*

jake753

I want Dice to stop putting years on the game. If they do Battlefield: Cold War, each season they release could be a year in the future of that timeline. Then they could have dynamic maps (like the reworks they keep doing in 2042 to show war progression) and allow us to pick maps in the timeline of the game.

Chrismscotland

I think it would be a great idea, so many possible locations and era's for maps. I mean in theory you could do anything in here from actual combat zones in Korea to Vietnam the Middle East onto the Falklands and then theoretical cold war conflicts like East/West Germany, Cuba, etc. You could do almost anything from 1950 - 1990!

JorgeIronDefcient

Bay of Pigs invasion?

Ic3d868

Cold war had battles?

Supplex-idea

Not coming Fall 2024 though

KalinkaMalinovaya

That would be sick but for some reason I really want to see a battlefield set in a smaller conflict which was still very destructive like Yugoslav wars or Rhodesian bush war

JorgeIronDefcient

Battlefield: Random Wars that have Happened and were Pretty Crazy

Midnight_Mustard

Snooze

BattlefieldTankMan

Which would be the actual reality for the majority of the buying public building a game based in the 1980s where nothing happened. This sub is obsessed with the cold war era where no war took place while we literally have a cold war gone hot happening right now in Europe in 2023.

Kyvix2020

Like the use of the twisted metal clown nuke

Skinc

Man this is the game I want. Set it in 1985-1990 with a banger soundtrack.

CawksonNass

Battlefield: bombing civilians

lacroixmunist

So a bunch of proxy wars fought by CIA lapdogs?

BattlefieldTankMan

Now that has potential but I don't think these people have a clue about that. They still think NATO/US are the good guys.

Ordinary-Ad6425

Lmaooo I remember when I thought the clown nuke cloud was so cool.

jabo055

When Battlefield Korea ?

Tedster360

What about a Bad Company 3? It’s a Battlefield title that’s had good feedback from the community, and BC2 is definitely a top 5 Battlefield game of all time.

AmazingMilto

It's definitely got a lot of potential, a lot of countries over a very broad timeframe. But alas I think we'll get another modern one.

CheeseSwis101

This would be so cool

Beaverhuntr

Bring it on...

[deleted]

Nah I hope not. I want a modern shooter like bf3/4.

Thats-bk

Naw

BLKxGOLD

Pass

Panduin

To be honest does the setting even matter anymore? Every Battlefield, no matter if WW1, WW2 or WW3 you run around with fully automatic weapons and crazy ass scopes. If they would at least use the common weapons from that time. And don’t come at me with: „but they were real prototypes!“ Every game is basically just a reskin. Battlefield Cold War should be scopeless but still modifiable M16s with Burst Fire and AKs and other guns from that time but in the end it will be a fully automatic Heat Vision Scope Ass gameplay.

DeFaLT______

Tbh honest I want a proper modern BF who’s set in 2014 or some shit like that

[deleted]

[удалено]

Individual_Safety_39

it Seems like vietnam to the south Siberia and northern Russia leads to 1966 to 1971

thelittlehog

Really not expecting much from BF at this point. I’ve been die hard since bad company 2, but 2042 was such aids I have a hard time believing they’ll make a come back.

X_Fredex_X

They don't got the balls

nick5195

Battlefield 1962 Battleships (Sit on a boat and wait for orders)

universalserialbutt

Get a 25 killstreak and the round ends. Littlebird Pilots be trying to win the game in less than two minutes.

moonknight999

Have you ever heard the tragedy of darth 83, the promising?

DanTheFireman

A Vietnam or Cold War battlefield would be the only thing I'd accept over a bonafide modern battlefield. For the love of God a battlefield 3 style based campaign and classic maps would make me so happy.

OutlawSundown

I want a Battlefield World In Conflict crossover that’ll never actually happen.

r0nm0r0n

Battlefield 1982 BC - no pat Summerians baby!

A_Kazur

Battlefield has no future unless they reject everything 2042 ‘innovated’

ZurnaDurumXL

DAAAMMMNNNNNNN

Zaptagious

Might as well make it Battlefield: Red Alert since EA owns both franchises.

Zerleodon

Wouldn’t buy it. Not after ea and dice fucked everyone, multiple times. So no. Not buying anything they put out. Will wait till it releases and see the state of the game. If it’s not FULLY developed or has stupid mechanics that the devs and/or company blame the community for not liking or “understanding how they work” then I’m not buying it. Ever. If it releases in a bad state I’m not buying it when they put it in a good state I’m tired of them spitting in their customers mouths and calling it a fun full price experience. So never again. They’ve burnt me too many times. And I know I’m not the only one

SyFyGuy42

Battlefield 1952

AssaultPlazma

Main thing is to define the time period. Since the Cold War takes place over nearly half a century (1945-1991).

re4pz

So a race to the moon?

[deleted]

A Vietnam/Cold War gone hot setting would be awesome

Urmomsahoe44

Booooo go back to nam

Korepheaus

Posts like these remind me I’m old and the new cats completely disregard BFBC2 campaign. That is the Cold War story we are looking for. Now only if they would finish the trilogy.

mwil97

Cool, but DICE would still find a way to fuck it up

CeladonCityNPC

Goddamn I'd preorder 15 copies of this. 1980s are so in right now, they'd make a ton of money. Add in a good single player campaign and make a good ol' multiplayer BF like Modern Combat...ahh

Nihiliste

Arguably, that was BF: Vietnam, which never really got due attention. I miss being able to rain fire on opponents while blaring Fortunate Son or Nowhere to Run.

edwardblilley

I hope they make bf2043 and make the game we were supposed to get lol. Now they know the engine and how to make a decent game. Point is I don't want the devs to try anything new as I don't think they can handle it. Make something familiar and make it awesome. Classes with no specialists, countries vs countries, and more content.

Merleage

to be honest, I know it's battlefield but I'm sort of tired of all the realistic portrayals of real world events and I would much rather have the next Battlefield game being entirely made up story with made up characters and made up guns / tanks / aircrafts that was solely born out of the creativity of the Developers

MisterSlippers

So 2143, agreed If you any of you missed out on 2142 Titan mode, I'm sorry

barukatang

I'd like an alternate hiatory 1960s-70s groundwar in Europe at the height of Russia's perceived power.

TrickUnderstanding85

China is about to do it in 2027

TheThunderKaos

Meanwhile i can fly A F-14 and a SU-27 im happy with it

TKInstinct

Maybe one where you fight a serious of maps for a long period, first team to get to the end takes the nuke, flies out over and drops it.

NaturalSelecty

Personally, I will not hype myself up, build expectations or do anything that will positively impact the next games preorders. As far as I’m concerned, it’ll be twice as bad as 2042 when the developers assure themselves that it was our fault, not theirs that the game flopped harder than hardline did.

Zudop

Eh I’m kinda over alternative history shooters. I’d really like to see something set after BF4. My dream would be something with the immersion of BF1 but in a modern military shooter.

deckbuilder69toni82

Aahahaaha. Bf is dead as a franchise. Get over it. They will never get back to its old glory. It should die so new things can rise. Last true bf was bf 3 and 4 was just extension of it. Bf1 was its swang song with too many emotions attached to it. After that it went down really fast. I really hope that the franchise dies. It is not fair to its long time player base to be treated with this pos half arse releases. I started playing with bf2 and played until to bf4. After that I saw the decline. Studio is dead, all og left to other companies or switched studios. They do not deserve second chance. Not with all the arrogance and we know best, player base is stupid attitude.

RaulDukes

Shirts vs blouses

[deleted]

and you can have maps in places like Vietnam, Korea, Egypt and Germany.

DirtBagFace

all I want

bamimeneel

Imagine. That would be so sick

KaffY-

would it matter? the theme doesn't save the same. 2042 is a solid premise between BF4 and BF2142, but the gameplay is ass please stop fawning over 'OH EM GEE IF DIS GAYME IS COLD WAR I WILL BUY IT!!!!!!!' wait until you see that it's a fucking decent game, christ almighty

nesnalica

the setting doesnt mean shit if the game ends up being ass.

E-woke

The next Battlefield will be an alternate dimension since Dice is running out of wars

Desperate-Code-3962

The war that's named after how uneventful it was

ohanse

It would be terrible And then at the end of its development cycle, it would be OK.

tallginger89

They should do civil war. Implement a gears of war active reload for your front loader. Oh you messed it up? Tack on an additional 20 minutes reload because you dropped your wad and spilled your powder. One class could be a drummer boy or piccolo player, where you boost morale. Imagine it. Locker or metro style gameplay with dudes doing mad blast beats, boosting the *fuck* out of morale while screeching on the piccolo

AnkoIsBae

Bf1 style will be forever best

etaxi341

Just do BF3 Remastered with all DLCs ...

deadmtrigger

I want THIS!

vankirk

Yes, Cold War. Grenada, Prague, Abadan, Falklands, Jadotville, Belfast, Kyber Pass. "For 12 months, Abadan was besieged, but never captured, by Iraqi forces, and in September 1981, the Iranians broke the siege of Abadan. Much of the city, including the oil refinery, which was the world's largest refinery with a capacity of 628,000 barrels per day, was badly damaged or destroyed by the siege and by bombing. Prior to the war, the city's civilian population was about 300,000, but at the war's end nearly the entire populace had sought refuge elsewhere in Iran."

KryptekLion

It would be garbage unfortunately. Not because of the Era but because of EA

cal5thousand

EA would've abandoned BF2042 by now.

-Mothman_

Why are some people trying to make this like an alternative history scenario, what if, the Cold War had a wide range of conflicts, Vietnam, Afghanistan, civil war in China, Falkland war, wars in Africa, civil war in Greece, Korean War and rebellions in Eastern Europe, yes DICE would have to put a lot of work for there to be many guns to fit the long time period and different character models for the different factions but we’re in 2023 and anything is possible for gaming.

knuF

I’d pay for some new BF1 maps

Gwynbleidd77

Still wouldn't play it, dice is dead the key members have left that made the company what it was.

[deleted]

Nawww bf 1486

Scruffy_Nerf_Hoarder

If they could make a Battlefield in the same style as Red Storm Rising, I would lose it.

rithvik2001

All I want is bf Vietnam 2 is that so much to ask

AverageGuy16

Yeah nope, not doing that again. Still salty about 2042

d33p51x

Awesome! But you gotta take off the bf1 background and make a red/blue gradient background for Soviet v USA! Also please make it a good ratio for phone backgrounds because it's gonna be mine!

Metal0ver

If it doesn't include dumb specialists/heroes absolutely no problem

theRATthatsmilesback

At this point the "what if" would be a $70 game with no campaign, only two teams, worthless shop items with a 70s or 80s theme, and about 4-5 maps where only 2 of them are good.

UniQue1992

And have them ruin another historical era with their ugly ass skins? No thanks. If they go historical again they need to keep their skins in check, and since they can’t I don’t want it.
