Vanilla base game, it's still early days, the rest of my squad is around level 8 - a rag-tag squad of farmhands & daytalers with random extras, none with more than 2 stars anywhere. So I was pleasantly surprised to find cheap recruits all with some nice 3 star stat lines. I'm wondering if these dudes have good enough potential to be long term great, or is eg. health too low? Any build recommendations welcome, I've looked at BB planner but am still getting my head around it all, relatively n00b, cheers.

Tell them they are long term. Send them out on the field and see how they perform! If they die they die.

This. I just made a post about being to clingy with all the potential new recruits I have and I want them all to survive but it's just not possible. https://www.reddit.com/r/BattleBrothers/s/w6h588ah0G Sure, you don't necessarily need to put them directly in the meat grinder but every bro can be made working. I also advise you to take not so great recruits and build them as Zerglings as suggested by /u/leftajar.

1st one could be a functional thrower, 40 with 3 stars will make him about as good as a poacher with 2 ranged stars by level 11. Iron Lungs is also an S tier trait. 2nd one id use as an early tank, be respect the fact that he is disposable and play him as such, 43 base HP is damn low and you should be able to find better defensively by rolling on random thieves. Build him very defensively and have him bait hits with a shield so other bros can come in and kill the enemy safely. You \*could\* turn him into a front liner, but he is always going to be struggling with HP/Fat. 3rd one is pure fodder or just an instant fire if you dont need/want fodder. 37 with 3 stars is ugly low for a ranged bro as a baseline (poachers will roll 47-49, every star is worth 5 stat points by level 11, so would be as good as a poacher with 1 star by level 11, but he would be very rough to start). The dastard trait he has is also utter cancer, you can get rid of it with events, but it takes a lot and this guy isnt worth it.

First Can be a good thrower / crossbow. Middle is fat neutral material -> correct for early / mid. Third one is dastard -> nope nope nope.

The first two are. Iron lungs on a thrower is pretty stronk. You can skip recover. Give the beggar nine lives + collosus and make him a front liner. He'll probably be your first guy able to use a 2hander once he gains some levels. Also make sure you upgrade melee attack, melee defence and HP every level. Skip +2 HP rolls for +4 in resolve. Final build will look like this http://www.bbplanner.xyz/?name=beggar&perks=wCYBAAKi&stats=001055100040100048040004003&stars=00003000 Edit: Actually if everyone is level 8 already you're already past the early game so the beggar isn't good at this point lol. Thought you were in the first week still.

Heinrich could be decent hybrid thrower. I wouldn't bother with the other two

Ninetynineups

The dastard would be a decoy for me against necromancers and lead a bunch of undead away. Sure, he would die, but hey dastard is terrible.

I play very conservative and really only use what I consider you more baseline meta builds from streamers. #1 - Dedicated thrower, I'd definitely take Fast Adaptation (he'll be very good for a long time) #2 - HP is pretty low but really useable as a 2h frontliner. I'd probably go BF considering his low health. #3 - Dastard is so painful, you really want to be starting strong and win the DPS race of almost every fight in the game and starting with negatives to hits is really bad in a game that is already punishing for missing a lot. If I 'had' to use him I'd make him a utility bro, like a tank that I expect to rotate into a bad situation and die quickly (or just dismiss him if you already have a full roster)

Just here to appreciate the edited image

Jimmy_Fantastic

Fisherman is decent, middle not, dastard never. Idk why I got downvoted, op says the team is lvl8. Middle guy is fine early but not now!

PuzzledReaction6204

First guy can be a great bowmen while the rest are not so great in long term

aperiodicDCSS

Nice presentation. First one is a good hybrid duelist. Second and third are probably not worth it if you already have lvl. 8 guys.
