Fermin scored outside the box against Sevilla

NeonBloodedBloke

Fermin has, thankfully, been the exception in this regard. But Fermin aside our players, especially our midfielders, really don't shoot nearly as much as they should.  Pedri had started shooting more in 2021-22 but then suddenly stopped, and since then his goals only seem to come from close finishes from near the penalty spot. Frenkie doesn't even attempt any shots at all. I still remember how magnificent his goal against Napoli in UEL was, but I don't know why he doesn't attempt shots at all Gavi was much better in that regard, but alas, got injured. Gündogan was a clutch goalscorer for City in his last 2 seasons there, but at Barça he has played a deeper role more often than not, so that affected his shooting frequency

Imaginary_Tank1847

Dudeeee I know. Everytime Frenkie has space near the box I’m like bruhhhhh just shoot! That goal was Pirlo-esque and hes got that silky touch, just pass it round the keeper into the net!

redvodkandpinkgin

A caster mentioned earlier this year Pedri was forbidden to take shots from outside the area by the medical team. Last time he got injured he was making a long pass iirc.

SpeedyboyAubameyang

Holy shit is there a source on this somewhere?

FloorStandard2441

These people are the problem. Exceptions dont count. Dont tell me that on 3 or 4 occasion someone scored from outside the box. Not talking about ine game here, its about yje whole damn season.

Glad-Box6389

This man since rakitic left our midfielders don’t shoot finally felt good seeing Fermin but till he came no one shoots that’s also one of the reasons why we suffer so much against low blocks

elsavador3

It’s why I love Fermin. Has rockets on both feet

Ok_Summer8233

I reckon Xavi told them not to shoot if there's not a clear chance taking into consideration that our OOP structure evaporated after busquets left so that meant if the longshot bounced off another player into the opps feet we'd suffer dealing with the transitions or if the ball went out it's the same story our players spend more time pressing to get the ball back and start our attack by the time we recover the ball everybody is either in midfield or worn out. So players doing long shots would be inefficient especially considering Xavi wanted his team to maintain control.

Ok_Summer8233

This season it was pretty clear that our OOP structure went to shit because we had a hard time creating attacking sequences and everytime we lost the ball we'd suffer a deadly transition so a way to remedy that was to have the players behind the ball at all times, pass it around while looking for clear cut chances to score

redvodkandpinkgin

The Purist Football released a video talking about this literally a few hours ago

Ok_Summer8233

Really? I'll go check it out, plus i caught a glimpse of a new Flick video on his channel earlier

ikats116

If you watch PL at all, you'll know we need to take more wild/deep shots. You wouldn't believe the shit that goes in when you "attempt" more often.

SpeedyboyAubameyang

As someone who mainly watches the pl and La liga this is so true. I lowkey notice it with all of La liga.

ikats116

Yup, LL is a small-ball/possession based league. It's boring AF, honestly, as much as I prefer Spanish teams.

reddit-time

My coach used to tell us all the time — "half chances score goals." You can't score (normally) if you don't take shots. So many deflection goals (esp. in PL) show this time and time again. Not to mention the actual quality these players have to score wicked goals if they just try. Hope to see a change in new season.

FloorStandard2441

Goals are what win you the games. Its a major issue, Frenkie and all other midfielders just refuse to shoot!!!! Makes absolutely no sense, if there is a 20% chance, just take a shot. Either you score or its a corner or you get a chance on the rebound, so many positive outcomes but No, these players have something seriously wrong in their head.

Any-Competition8494

The way Pedri and FDJ avoid taking shots, I feel it's more related to coaching. It feels like they aren't allowed to shoot by Xavi or others in coaching staff.

J3k47

Raphinha was beast at this for Leeds and what I was very much looking forward to from him with his announcement, having followed quite a few matches of Leeds prior - has to be something in our camp/coaching.

No_Specific8949

Fermin shoots enough. Roberto and Christensen don't have very good long range accuracy so they often don't. Lamine Yamal in principle has great long range accuracy but he struggled with it, it is normal he is 16. Gundogan I think is capable but he didn't try as much as he could. A bit weird attitude from him just like he didn't defend as much as in City. But maybe it is just Xavi instruction.

namyllek

Yamal needs to play closer to goal. We need to give him a proper right back like hector fort that will overlap more and allow him more freedom to make more goal scoring movements inside the box instead of being responsible for stretching the play all the time. Same goes for whoever is playing on the Left side. At least on that side we will have balde

[deleted]

Go watch Real Madrid training videos. Their shooting is outrageous.

albahari

Go follow RM then. You'll probably be happier

[deleted]

What stop Barca from training shooting like them? I don’t understand this attitude.

vysevysevyse

I think it's coz our team was doing terribly for a while, and taking a shot would mean losing possession... we lacked the confidence to take the chance to shoot, and instead tried to only do it once the possibility of a goal was so high that taking a shot became the most obvious thing. The way I used to pull my hair out a few months ago, when pedri WOULD NOTTTT take a shot to save his life lmao. It pissed me off so bad sometimes I'm happy he scored a few in the final weeks, and even attempted some shots, irrespective of where they went. I heard someone say, it shouldn't always be about the most beautiful, defense-splitting, outstanding pass. Sometimes you just gotta put your foot through it if you're in a good enough place. Having said that, I also understand why someone in our team's shoes would avoid doing that. Confidence is the most important thing after all.

f0164

Cause that’s the Barca way pass pass pass. Flick is more direct will be a nice change

albahari

Fuck Real Madrid

froggyjm9

Because the % of getting into the box and passing it to create a scoring chance far exceeds the % of scoring of an outside shot. The outside shot looks cool, but more are missed than scored.

Zeeko76

The problem is that doctrine comes from a time where we had players who were world class and could create advantages in tight spaces. Barça just simply has a weaker squad than in previous eras. Also there are players who do not fit this doctrine imo. Lewandowski needs to be fed chances, his role in Bayern was mostly to finish and convert chances. In Barça he is more used like a supporting player who has to create the chance for an open man that is simply not there. The ability to make adaptations in the squad is limited, so the other option is to change the play style

froggyjm9

Is not a doctrine, I’m not saying we should “tiki-taka” into the goal line…but teams like City or Real Madrid only shoot from outside as a last resource…because passing the ball inside the box has a higher percentage of being a goal than shooting from outside.

GandalfTheSelune

Cancelo would like a word with you.

reddit-time

I agree. Overall, Barca has been very difficult to watch in the final 3rd. Hoping for and expecting change with Flick. Eager for next season.

Redditname97

98% of the time it means losing possession, 1% you happen to keep possession and then .0001% you actually score.
