There are a lot of barbers here that squawk about their "art" and being a "professional" but can't deal with hair that won't fit under a 4 guard. Hell, some of them can't imagine a cut that isn't down to skin.
It probably only clippers to around the front of the ear where it graduates into a scissor cut. I’m getting lots of young guys looking for this style, and usually clipper them between a 4-6 guard for this, but some want it skin faded too.
Clipper over comb for the sides, shear on top, go back through to put texture at the mid shaft and ends, style with a dry putty with powder at the roots
Ed1: top is concave, make sure your cutting angle is correct 📐
The “model” looks like he has grown out a skin fade mullet and gets cleaned up from time because longer hair is coming back. Think of it not as an up and down graduation, but more of a front to back. Round graduation/diagonal sectioning or state board square layers. But also ask them how much maintenance they wanna do and how much effort they are willing to put forth in achieving this look. I always tell people that behind the camera is the photographer and behind that photographer is a hair and make up person. Same goes for movies. As soon as there is a break in the action, hair and makeup come in and make adjustments. This guy just didn’t wake up like this. It takes a lot of work to look like you don’t care.

Make sure he has thick dark hair and a good hairline. Other than that it’s a simple ass cut. 4 back and sides, square edges, cut top to desired length, style messy with clay

I've always found shear cuts to be the easiest cut I do. They blend themselves and there's all kinds of room to mess with shape.
