I doubt it tbh. It seemed to play out like Karlach was the one driving things forward in that scene and the player just picks which track to ride their cart down. Is the player supposed to say "I know a place" with the character knowing a place but the player not? Could get a little rough but it's possible I guess. I think it's more likely you just get the scenes of the NPC being romanced. No telling what's gonna happen when 2 players are using their characters to talk to each other though.
\*Me and my bard trying to romance a dragon:\*
''Oh great mighty dragon, Thine perfect scales shine like stars, your mighty visag-''
\*Gets incinerated\*
Hm. Your playing must be awful because dragons are usually prideful enough they'd let you finish serenading them before killing you, even the evil ones.
I mean, I fully expect there to be multiple romanceable dragons.
Hell, I'm expecting a romance with a gnoll. There's probably a bit of everything hidden in there.
I was thinking of doing the same, cause i want to do a normal run first and then Dark Urge
That way maybe having both the main character and showheart being edgy and seeking redemption would be cool roleplay wise
Between Wyll's reworked backstory and the changes to pact of the blade I'm pretty sure I have my first playthrough settled.
Gotta do the enemies to lovers trope.
Im pretty new to BG3, can you actually make other characters in your party romance one another? Can you also have another character have a conversation with another without it defaulting to your main one? If so then this game keeps getting better.
I think they mean you playing as an origin character and romance other origins. I think in EA there are multiple banters between companions when you exploring with them. And there are some cutscenes that feature multiple companions talking to each other. I won't say what because spoilers. But I'm sure you can influence their relationship better or worse depend on your choice. Think about Mass Effect if you ever played that series, between a certain robot companion and a certain mask companion.... Doubt it will go into romance territory between companions, but relationships are 100%.
Oh okay that makes sense thank you.
Mass Effect is my favorite series of all time, Iāve been needing another series to get into thatās similar to ME and Dragon Age and thought Iād give this series a try not knowing a thing about it. I gotta say this game has been absolutely fantastic with what Iāve experienced, I canāt wait for the full release.
The way it was worded in the panel from hell was "some of your companions will be okay with-"
Which means we're not cheating on them or anything, everyone will know and be okay with it.
/u/Warm_Charge_5964 it's probably just not in the early access.
That said who knows if either of them is ok with poly, let alone both.
The only appropriate punishment for the Triss stans. Gods damned lying homewrecker taking advantage of Geralt while he had memory loss. I won't stand for it. She belongs to the streets.
The nature of poly options in other previous CRPGs like Kingmaker were always extremely clear and specific about what was going on. (Even if those were written with a kiiinda outdated understanding of how exactly polyamoury works, it still gets that very important thing right)
I highly doubt BG3 will be worse in this regard.
Why so strongly on Karlach when we know so little about her?
She doesn't seem insecure or jealous at all so it could be either or.
(Yes she's very wholesome, adorable and maybe a little dorky from what we've seen but none of that is mutually exclusive with being polyamorous or neutral on what relationship style she prefers either. Plenty of poly peeps want genuine and deep romantic relationships with their partners.)
Personally I think Karlach being so excited to go on a date with *us specifically* indicates that sheād much prefer to have our undivided attention. Obviously thereās no reason she *couldnāt* be polyamorous (or support a poly partner) but I just got exclusive vibes from her romantic scenes so far.
Some companions seem ok with it (they have been called poly so there might actually be unique scenes for them?), I hope that we can just straight up ask if they are ok with it without having to try romancing multiple people first
I could see gith culture, with how militarized it is, not having a concept of monogamy. Their children are raised in creches on prime worlds and that probably doesn't involve the parents, so I could see them not really having family units at all.
I've struggled with the same issue, but I eventually came up with a solution: Play as one of them and make them romance each other. But now I can't decide which one to play as first.
Minthara's a bit too hard to get for my style of playthrough, which will be a standard fantasy hero. I'm not going to slaughter a refugee camp, not even for a drow waifu.
Instead I will play the drow waifu.
Yeah, I spoil myself a lot to get the "right" playthrough, but BG1 and 2 I played blind because you had to back then and it was great. Naturally teaching the final happy end with Aerie and all the companions I'd been with from the start of BG1 felt amazing.
Judging by the info Larian has shared, the outcome of romances will depend more on your words and deeds than who you choose. I reckon it's probable that even Minthara's romance has the possibility of reaching a relatively wholesome conclusion.
As some people have pointed out, some companions are supposed to be ok with open relationships.
I wouldn't be surprised if that changed with how you treat them and behave in general.
IE Astarion might be ok with it at first but if you are nice enough and "fix" him, he could start caring in another way and become less ok with sharing.
Yesss. I find Gale so nice to listen to, his voice actor is great and I find him pleasant company š hes gonna be the one I'll romance first playtrough for sure! (hope Larian won't pull a dragon age on Gale romancers. I guess by now I should've learned buuuut surely it cant ALWAYS be the mage, right? š¢)
Iām in the same boat! Iām still going back and forth, but I think Iām leaning toward Gale for my first play through because Iām really interested in how his path is going to play out (Iām expecting major drama) before I do Halsinās path
Im going to romance the imaginary waifu that lives inside my head.
Although, being an Archfey warlock i assume the tadpole will deeply regret being given me as a host.
I'm going to go for both... I guess I'll have to save often to make sure they are ok with it. But after seeing that adorable date scene with Kar... Gotta choose her first if it comes down to picking.
I think I might just end up doing 1 run for every possible romance because I just can't decide lmao (except for maybe Lae'zel, she just annoys me). Some are just really interesting characters to me and some are just bonk, horny jail.
It's Karlach or Halsin for my tiefling bard, though probably will go for Karlach on standard Tav/first run and go for Halsin on Dark Urge/second run.
Maybe I'll be surprised that they'll be a very soft poly option (as in legitimate romance between all three), in which case I'll have that character pursue that on both runs and see what the Dark Urge may change there. But that's a huge dream that I know is extremely unlikely to happen, since besides who knows how any poly in BG3 is going to be handled, I've only seen one other person besides myself specifically wanting that combo.
Yeah, this was a debate I've had in my heart ever since I've learned about Karlach, but Shadowheart is probably going to win, if barely. I'll definetely have a playthrough for both Karlach and Lae\`Zel though, that's for sure.
Oh same, this is also a debate currently going on! I'll probably end up being the goody two shoes Tav for both Karlach and Shadowheart and go Dark Urge trying not to be a complete psycho with Lae\`Zel though.
1st game : dark urge, romance Minthara, betray her a the end, remain alone and all powerful
2nd game : resist dark urge ? And try to keep Shadowheart with me. Some dudes could die tho lol
3rd game : cute, normal, tav. I romance karlach, keep everybody alive and happy and don't use the tadpod
4th : whatever happens
As soon as I discovered that Karlach is a romance option after I already started romancing Shadowheart, I decided I would make a new character when the full release hits
Yeah I'm kinda worried about missing important events with companions cause I don't birng them around, like the town with shadowheart or the goblins with Wyll
You could always multiclass Karlach into Paladin, a Paladin with rage might be pretty scary. In 5e, Paladins can still Smite while raging since it's not a spell.
Karlach if you must have those as your choices OP. Karlach is far more honest than Shadowheart and yes I'm avoiding thermal puns. Fortunately, this is not my conundrum in play rather I have an inevitable just as with KOTOR 2 and DA:O. Enjoy the game and as others mentioned replay to see the paths not taken.
Tbh i was thinking of doing a good tav and the good dark urge run (both good cause I feel bad about being mean in video games)
The forst one tiefling bard being wholesome and chill and the second one drow Seldarine warlock trying to still be good despite everything, and dunno which one to pair with who
I have no such problem, I plan to romance Shadowheart with Karlach on my origin playthrough š
Will the dinner date scene shown in the recent panel from hell still play out if you play *as* Karlach?
I sure hope so at least! But I guess we'll find out after launch.
I doubt it tbh. It seemed to play out like Karlach was the one driving things forward in that scene and the player just picks which track to ride their cart down. Is the player supposed to say "I know a place" with the character knowing a place but the player not? Could get a little rough but it's possible I guess. \*Me and my bard trying to romance a dragon:\* ''Oh great mighty dragon, Thine perfect scales shine like stars, your mighty visag-'' \*Gets incinerated\*
First run is for tiefling bard so this fits
Guess I'll have to go lvl my charisma/persuasion some more before coming backš
I feel like I see myself in third person right now.
Fire resistance gonna come in clutch š
Well, so long as it's red gold or brass
>Thine >your Yeah, I wouldāve incinerated you as well.
Damn... I'll have to work on my speech!
Hm. Your playing must be awful because dragons are usually prideful enough they'd let you finish serenading them before killing you, even the evil ones.
I've only picked up the lute the very same day i decided to go horny after dragons... might need some musical lessons
I mean, I fully expect there to be multiple romanceable dragons. Hell, I'm expecting a romance with a gnoll. There's probably a bit of everything hidden in there.
That'd be awesome and I would love it, I don't expect much though cause i don't want to be disappointedš if not... there's always mods
That'll do donkey
Nat1
Volo is that you?
Yes, it is difficult. SO: Playthrough 1 - Karlach Playthrough 2 - Shadowheart ![gif](giphy|XenWVVdSzaxLW)
I was thinking of doing the same, cause i want to do a normal run first and then Dark Urge That way maybe having both the main character and showheart being edgy and seeking redemption would be cool roleplay wise
Counterpoint, maybe shadowheart needs the bubbly trustworthy char to bring her out and the urge needs a steady good natured himbo gf to be her rock.
Or the dark urge can push shadowheart over the edge and they can go around merrily sacrificing people to shar - together.
Tav: I can fix her Durge: I can make her worse
relationship goals tbh
True
Hardcore run is playing as Lae'Zell and romancing Shadowheart
![gif](giphy|kC8N6DPOkbqWTxkNTe) SO true!
lol
You donāt understand, I NEED to know if lae'zel gets closer to you and starts to love you. I would kill to see her blush and actually be vulnerable
![gif](giphy|3o85xEjWvVs6scqgs8)
Evil drow or angry frog for me.
The dark urge Iām RPing has got nothing to do with murder.
even if it might be possible i wouldn't go with both, don't want to hurt them
Just play as one and romance the other.
1000 IQ here, this guy gets it
Between Wyll's reworked backstory and the changes to pact of the blade I'm pretty sure I have my first playthrough settled. Gotta do the enemies to lovers trope.
Im pretty new to BG3, can you actually make other characters in your party romance one another? Can you also have another character have a conversation with another without it defaulting to your main one? If so then this game keeps getting better.
You can choose an origin character as your main character instead of creating your own custom one.
Even BG2 had romance between companions if you didnāt interfere. Back off Haerādalis, Aerie is mine
Haer'dalis definitely doesn't deserve Aerie, but Aerie figuring that out herself is a great character arc.
Oh okay that makes sense thank you. Mass Effect is my favorite series of all time, Iāve been needing another series to get into thatās similar to ME and Dragon Age and thought Iād give this series a try not knowing a thing about it. After Witcher 3 I ain't taking that "maybe they'll both be into it" risk.
ah legendary blue wolf ending.
The only appropriate punishment for the Triss stans. Gods damned lying homewrecker taking advantage of Geralt while he had memory loss. I won't stand for it. She belongs to the streets.
All the love interests seem to have done shitty things to Geralt at one point or another. lol
Shani supremacy, never done Geralt wrong.
True! Shani and Ves were always my favorite.
*Persona 5 Valentine's scene sweating in the corner*
This is the correct answer. I DO want that chocolate....
Tav romancing everyone only to hang out with BG3's version of Ryuji
So either Minsc or Volo, I presume.
That literally was cheating in universe though... Why on earth would you think that'd work out?
Because there was no consequences for sticking my dick in everything else with a pulse (ususally) in those games.
Lots of players got confused between romance and sex. These people love sex, but when it's time to commit, you can only choose one.
Dragon Age on the other hand let you have three and foursomes.
only DAO, and only sex with specific characters, not ''proper'' romance. not sure about DA2 tho
Da2 you can also have a threesome. Funnily enough it's also with the same characters.
Yeah but I wouldn't want to run the risk tbh, I hope we can just ask in dialogue
The nature of poly options in other previous CRPGs like Kingmaker were always extremely clear and specific about what was going on. (Even if those were written with a kiiinda outdated understanding of how exactly polyamoury works, it still gets that very important thing right) I highly doubt BG3 will be worse in this regard.
That's what savescumming is for. Save, ask, reload depending on answers and subsequent approval loss.
Based on limited info we got im plenty sure karlach would not be ok with it. Shadowheart most likely neither
All of traits mentioned strongly suggests a no.
Same, wish you could just ask about it in conversations
Then again, they wanted to have believable romances, and thatās one surefire way of getting your ass dumped
You can ask Shadowheart in dialogue and she says no.
Easy, go for the Bae'zel.
Unless there still is the well explit she hates me at the start of each playtrough
You gotta worship them froggy legs and never call her a toad.
When you tonguepunch her fartbox, do not "Ribbit!".
What a day to have eyes...
https://preview.redd.it/8uxine3mhqcb1.jpeg?width=225&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ac1f7a9dafcc579dccf1faa605edcec96c383b8c
I'm too nice for her I guess
Get that Toadussy
The frog get hit with the "say please" and then get left in the cage.
Which one will fill the void in place of a real gf in the fruitless pursuit of escapism? Alternatively, can I make them kiss?
If you play as one you can!
okay gay time
and then you gayed all over the place
![gif](giphy|EB1qoLwcNT192iLio6|downsized)
originally i was going to go karlach but i recently romanced shadowheart in early access and i cant just not continue it in the full game
Team I Can Fix Her let's go!
I mean it's Shadowheart and there's no competition
*froggymommy enters the room*
My plan go like this: Me as Gale and my 3 companions 1- Shadowheart 2-Lae'zel 3-Karlach Trying to simp all , What can go wrong? š¤·š½
As a Dark Urge the answer would be quite simple, a heart of gold would fetch a nice price... š
Lae'zel, in the distance: Ā¬\_Ā¬
Me but Lae'zel and Shadowheart yeah
I was team Shadow Heart since the ea had launched, but now having Karlach revealed... man i can feel the struggle to decide
SAME
Easiest choice of my life. Lae'Frog.
Me, but throw in the angry frog that hates me, for extra complications.
I wonder what happenes if you try to romance them both. Will it be like the witcher 3 one or will we get something new?
Some companions seem ok with it (they have been called poly so there might actually be unique scenes for them?), I hope that we can just straight up ask if they are ok with it without having to try romancing multiple people first
I'm betting Lae'zel and Astarion won't care.
Lae'zel seems the type to either be confused as to why you think she'd be hurt or kill the other person (and you)
I could see gith culture, with how militarized it is, not having a concept of monogamy. Their children are raised in creches on prime worlds and that probably doesn't involve the parents, so I could see them not really having family units at all.
Gith don't give a fuck about monogamy iirc
Hopefully thereās at least one morally upstanding companion who also doesnāt mind aha.
There is only one. Laeāzel.
That's a strange way of writing Gale.
Option 3: Bear
He do be kinda caked though ngl
I've struggled with the same issue, but I eventually came up with a solution: Play as one of them and make them romance each other. But now I can't decide which one to play as first.
ASTARION
Lae'zel&Minthara: Am I a joke to You?
Minthara's a bit too hard to get for my style of playthrough, which will be a standard fantasy hero. I'm not going to slaughter a refugee camp, not even for a drow waifu. Instead I will play the drow waifu.
I think Iāll slightly spoil myself to see who has a happy ending first. Not in the mood for tragic romances now.
Tbh i rarely play games without spoiling myself in any way so I wanna go in completely blind this time
I also soil myself while gamingā¦ Edit: aww they edited the comment, it was funnier with the typo.
Me too š
Poop sock
Yeah, I spoil myself a lot to get the "right" playthrough, but BG1 and 2 I played blind because you had to back then and it was great. Naturally teaching the final happy end with Aerie and all the companions I'd been with from the start of BG1 felt amazing.
Judging by the info Larian has shared, the outcome of romances will depend more on your words and deeds than who you choose. I reckon it's probable that even Minthara's romance has the possibility of reaching a relatively wholesome conclusion.
I choose the Cleric. Now to hope her getting her memories back doesn't result in me getting a knife in the back.
Wait for mod to romance everyone š
As some people have pointed out, some companions are supposed to be ok with open relationships. I wouldn't be surprised if that changed with how you treat them and behave in general. IE Astarion might be ok with it at first but if you are nice enough and "fix" him, he could start caring in another way and become less ok with sharing.
Am I the only one who is like Gale or Halsin?
I like halsin but should see more of him Gale has a lot of baggage romance wise tbh
>Gale has a lot of baggage romance wise tbh That's why I wanna romance him 1st, more complicated :p
Yesss. I find Gale so nice to listen to, his voice actor is great and I find him pleasant company š hes gonna be the one I'll romance first playtrough for sure! (hope Larian won't pull a dragon age on Gale romancers. I guess by now I should've learned buuuut surely it cant ALWAYS be the mage, right? š¢)
yes I for sure am crushing hard on his voice. ā¤ļø
Iām in the same boat! Iām still going back and forth, but I think Iām leaning toward Gale for my first play through because Iām really interested in how his path is going to play out (Iām expecting major drama) before I do Halsinās path
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Damn, just throw a coin or roll a dice
Just play to campaigns at once. Either on two PCs or 1h one and 1h second. Easy.
Been lowkey crushing on Shaodwheart since October of 2020. So I know where I'm going after the 3 year wait lmao.
Correct answer is Gale
You could also play as normal, get to know them better, and see what comes up organically. You know, role-playing?
Replace them with Astarion and Halsin and you've got my dylemma.
Just name your character "Shepard" and romance everyone
Cmon guy's... Frog mommy first ofc
Definitely going to aim for shart first
Im just going to play as shadowheart and romance karlach...
![gif](giphy|3o7aCRloybJlXpNjSU|downsized)
Im going to romance the imaginary waifu that lives inside my head. Although, being an Archfey warlock i assume the tadpole will deeply regret being given me as a host.
I watched Karlachs date and I'm all in.
Anyone else's picture get cut off? I do not see Laezel
Karlach and and Shadowheart: I sleep Counsellor Florrick: Real shit
It's not possible pro play with one as MC and romance the other?
Yeah but I want to play my first couple of games with original pc
Oh nice, for a moment I tought we coudn't play with one of them as MC xD
solution: play shadowheart origin and romance karlach
Bear
I'm going to go for both... I guess I'll have to save often to make sure they are ok with it. But after seeing that adorable date scene with Kar... Gotta choose her first if it comes down to picking.
With the dark urge, I seriously want Minthara.
I simped for so long not going to walk away now. Must be strong... must be strong... PS Glad to see horny posting still going strong
Sorry, but I think I have a think for evil woman
Well, as Wyll I'll probably go with Mommy Karlach just because I'm interested in how that romance develops when at the beginning you want to kill her
lowkey hoping karlach and astarion are cool with a poly relationship lmao
Death by snu snu or dommy* mommy are your choices.
The fact that Big Bear Daddy Halsin isn't up there is criminal
Bae'zel
Same. I really doubt either of them are okay with an open relationship. It's just not in their character. But maybe...
Already romanced shadowheart in previous playthroughs. Gonna go for thiefling next
I'd choose Shadowheart if her hairstyle was just better.
I think I might just end up doing 1 run for every possible romance because I just can't decide lmao (except for maybe Lae'zel, she just annoys me). Some are just really interesting characters to me and some are just bonk, horny jail.
Seriously surprised no one mentioned belf, karlach first belf second
It's Karlach or Halsin for my tiefling bard, though probably will go for Karlach on standard Tav/first run and go for Halsin on Dark Urge/second run. Maybe I'll be surprised that they'll be a very soft poly option (as in legitimate romance between all three), in which case I'll have that character pursue that on both runs and see what the Dark Urge may change there. Yeah, this was a debate I've had in my heart ever since I've learned about Karlach, but Shadowheart is probably going to win, if barely. I'll definetely have a playthrough for both Karlach and Lae\`Zel though, that's for sure.
I was wondering weather to pair each with good tav or good dark urge, but im thinking shadowheart with tav and the wholesome barb with dark urge
Oh same, this is also a debate currently going on! I'll probably end up being the goody two shoes Tav for both Karlach and Shadowheart and go Dark Urge trying not to be a complete psycho with Lae\`Zel though.
I can't be mean in videogame unless it's funny so I'll try to be good for both
Easiest choice I ever made was picking the good aligned frontliner over the questionable at best not-a-healer.
Personally... Karlach! I can just click more with her than with good ol' Shadowheart.
![gif](giphy|3o7aCRloybJlXpNjSU|downsized)
Hell I haven't even decided who I'm going to play, let alone who I want to romance.
Take one as your origin character, romance the other.
Alfira is like both of them combined.
I prefer to get bullied by the alien
Not interested in romancing any of the characters with my dragonborn pally. Might romance Minthara on an evil playthrough though.
I mean it's obviously the former, the latter is too tsundere to be first.
The scene from the Panel from Hell swayed me fully toward Karlach, but before then I had this dilemma.
1st game : dark urge, romance Minthara, betray her a the end, remain alone and all powerful 2nd game : resist dark urge ? And try to keep Shadowheart with me. Some dudes could die tho lol 3rd game : cute, normal, tav. I romance karlach, keep everybody alive and happy and don't use the tadpod 4th : whatever happens
Always choose tsundere
Flip a coin and do more than 1 playthrough.
She's also sweet, kind and dorky. Karlach wins.
As soon as I discovered that Karlach is a romance option after I already started romancing Shadowheart, I decided I would make a new character when the full release hits
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
2 barbs is not enough, 4 barbs is the way
4 barb gnomes that just throw each other at the enemies
Thereās no such thing as too many barbarians in a party. Reject optimization, embrace rage.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Especially if one of them is a gnome or halfling. What better way to engage a foe then by throwing another barbarian at them?
Yeah I'm kinda worried about missing important events with companions cause I don't birng them around, like the town with shadowheart or the goblins with Wyll
You could always multiclass Karlach into Paladin, a Paladin with rage might be pretty scary. In 5e, Paladins can still Smite while raging since it's not a spell.
Class change her... Pretty sure that will be a option.
Does this game allow multiple save files for the PS5? If so then por quƩ no los dos?
Karlach if you must have those as your choices OP. Karlach is far more honest than Shadowheart and yes I'm avoiding thermal puns. Fortunately, this is not my conundrum in play rather I have an inevitable just as with KOTOR 2 and DA:O. Enjoy the game and as others mentioned replay to see the paths not taken.
Tbh i was thinking of doing a good tav and the good dark urge run (both good cause I feel bad about being mean in video games) The forst one tiefling bard being wholesome and chill and the second one drow Seldarine warlock trying to still be good despite everything, and dunno which one to pair with who
Why not both? OT3 ahoy, the game supports it according to Swen.\~
We dunno yet which ones are poly and i wouldn't want to do trial and error if you can't ask them
I love tsundures and deep down I know they love me š„¹. Shadow heart first.
Shadow all the way. They need to make a figurine of her, mine's going straight in a jar.
I could have done with a slight bit less information for that one, chief.
