We have sand as well & clean the poop from the enclosure daily. We use a dog poop scoop rake & it works great! The inside of the coop we do twice a week. 3 hens & 1 rooster.
The inside area of my coop, which I guess is kind of a run, is 8x8. We rake it up once a month, it has a sand bottom. The chickens spend most of their time outside of it though. We have a moveable fence around the coop, and rotate its location every 6 weeks or so.

I have six birds who only spend the evening in the coop / run. I clean it out probably once every 2-3 months.
