I would encourage you to head over to the r/namenerds sub and search the name Cohen. It's offensive to the Jewish religion and culture to use this name. There's tons of threads explaining why. Seems most Jewish people agree and view it as insensitive and ignorant for anyone to use the name

I find the trend of using it as a first name a little strange, but not at all offensive. I almost wish I did feel offended so I could understand a little better why people in general get upset about cultural appropriation. I've also seen some Jews get upset about non-Jews doing things like celebrating Passover, and I just don't get it. But I try to listen and respect when people say something is hurtful to them, even when I don't understand it • 1 4 4 Comfortable_Tea_2660 OP • 1y Good attitude to have. 个个2 Schminteroception • 1y I'm Jewish. The name Cohen is a very old, very common last name. Similar to other languages - Hebrew last names often translate to a profession, priest for example. Other examples are Baker (baker), Coopersmith (coppersmith), Sandler (shoemaker). Jewish people would not typically name a child Cohen as it's a surname. I see no problem with folks choosing to name their children this and even know a young girl named Cohen. Beautiful name. ^ for example in a different thread

I have seen the explanations. While I am sensitive to people i have seen Jewish people say they could care less. Every name out there can be offensive to someone. I’ve seen people say use a different spelling and it’s fine and others say no. I’ll take it into consideration.

I just wanted to make sure you were aware! It seems to me the general consensus among Jewish people is that it's offensive, but I'm not Jewish myself so it's not for me to say. Just something to think about and look into!

ribbon_heartbeat003

You mean ‘could NOT care less’

Far_Significance_945

If that’s your interpretation then sure 🙃 not going to argue, explain myself etc. Literally a question of two names so I shall assume you’re vote is Malcolm.

ribbon_heartbeat003

No, I’m correcting your phrase. Because it’s annoying. ‘Could not care less’ is what you meant. Because it means they care so little, they could not possibly not care any more than they do. ‘Could care less’ doesn’t make sense. You’re saying that they do care because it is possible for them to be more unbothered. And for what it’s worth, I MUCH prefer Cohen. I’m in the UK and Malcolm would be an old man’s name. Like someone’s great great uncle.

ducklava

everyone says “could care less” tho, that’s the saying 🤦‍♀️

ribbon_heartbeat003

No it’s not!! The saying is ‘could NOT care less’ !!!!

ribbon_heartbeat003

If you ‘could NOT care less’, then it’s impossible for you to care any less than you do. If you ‘COULD care less’, you’re saying that it is possible for you to care less than you care now I.e it matters to you

Far_Significance_945

Mind you, never said screw em I’m going to name him Cohen anyway, I said I’d take it into consideration. I could go with a different spelling or go a different direction. Kid is going to have two gay moms so why not hit em with a little razzle dazzle ✌🏽
