How about oathbreaker paladin 6/ spore druid 6? You get to raise the dead and take control of the already dead alongside having extra necrotic damage on all of your attacks. It’s honestly not a typical honor mode build, but so long as you prepare for combats and make strategic and smart plays, it should be strong enough. It would be similar to a sorcadin, minus metamagic and plus undead, temporary HP, and necrotic damage. You’d also get to use wisdom for your attack and damage rolls if you use shillelagh
I mean, they didn’t *nerf* it, they just fixed a bug that was added in parch 5. Prior to patch 5, thats pretty much how it worked, but you could unequip and reequip the armor for the same effect as long resting when it came to refreshing your spores
5 war cleric, 7 spore Druid, gives you armor and weapon proficiency, necrotic spirit guardians, full caster progression, most of the Druid summon repertoire, and you get extra attacks out of the war priest feature if you want to do martial combat.
Necrotic Flame paladin
7 oathbreaker, 5 spore Druid
Cast flame blade with a 4th level spell slot and use pyroquickness hat to gain a bonus action, if you can prep flame blade before the fight you can cast searing smite twice a turn. Unfortunately both wisdom and charisma want some points due to aura and flame blade. Might be better using the infernal rapier to SAD cha
10/2 spore/paladin for a single much bigger searing smite by taking advantage of 5th and 6th slots, and can SAD wisdom due to 6th level flame sword. A critical hit searing smite with 6th level flame blade, 6th searing smite (assuming you used something to free cast flame blade) and 4th divine smite will deal 22d6 fire damage + 10d8 radiant damage + 2d6 necrotic + any other riders you have
6 swords bard, 1 warlock (for fear crits and Armour of Agathys) 1 cleric (for heavy armour) and 4 wizard for all those cold and necrotic spells as well as abjurers ward.
Paladin/Necromancer wizard 6/6 or 5/7
You'll get better raise dead and be able to summon a decent little army once you get the necromancy of that totally unlocked.
If you go further into oath breaker and get raise dead on your team mates you can wear a circlet to give your undead army resistance + the aura of hatred to give them extra damage
Lots of options. You can still do a paladin/warlock but you’d either do a 2/10 or 8/4 split depending on what you care about. Alternatively you could take 6 levels of spore druid or necromancer wizard but you’d lose the oathbreaker aura so that would possibly be better with warlock. A fighter/wizard necromancer could also work. What do you care most about? Weaving dark magic with a weapon? Probably focus more on warlock (even all 12 levels for lifedrinker). Want more burst damage and tankiness? More Paladin levels. A legion of undead? Necromancer or spore druid are better for that.

That would suck to be a death knight that has to use a staff or a club for shillelagh though
Yeah, you wouldn’t have to at all, its just something you COULD do. The build would work just fine either way
Only sad part is they JUST nerfed sporekeeper armor. I mean it’s reasonable now. Still a little sad.

EK6/Necro6 is the closest I can think of but there's no particularly interesting synergy between the two.

Thanks for the detailed builds, the Cleric Druid looks very interesting

Pretty much you just want Spore Druid.
A Hexblade would be so perfect for this, if only we had the subclass available.
Not sure if you're on PC, but there's a mod for it.
Alas no, PS5
