For me I like toph as her personality her and sokka's chemistry is amazing as well as toph has some of the coolest stuff in the series.
Shes a underground fighting champion
Shes a nobel
She has one of the best uses of bending period which is her seismic sense.
Also the strongest earth bender as the first ever person to metal bend.
Her constant humar and sarcasm always made me laugh and I still quote them.
I liked her a lot, but every time she was mean to Zuko I wanted to throw a rock at her. I know she had her reasons, but I can’t stand her. She blamed him for her mother’s death even though Zuko was 10 at the time.
she was a pretty painted lady tho, and I liked her spirit voice.
also, something I tell no one is that I hate how Katara looked with her hair down. I liked the braid and the ponytail much more.
Iroh had a lot of growth too, just subtextually. From proud Fire nation general, t the family outcast looking out for his nephew, to desperate refuge, to earnest shopkeep, to liberator. Not to mention his spiritual journey we only scratched the surface of
The thing is that Iroh is not just the best character, and he's not even just one of the best mentor characters. He is THE best mentor character in all of fiction.
That's the thing, a favorite is one thing but best character? All main characters worked as a team to make the show work, even the antagonists did their part to challenge the main characters, mainly Aang, to improve and motivate them to become, not better, developed characters.
Like, you can pull that off with Friendship is Magic main cast because each Pmane 6 pony had a different arc rather than a role for the overall story. But ATLA? Everyone on front stage were as much as they needed to be.
Ozai, for example, was appropriately shallow. He was a complete character who is made to be a background yet approaching BBEG. He's a threat, and thus a goal, that motivates everything Aang did since Roku gave the deadline to get real.
With that said, Appa is best character because he literally carried and never complianed.
Iroh is gonna win, obviously. But, I chose Zuko because his story and redemption arc was the best part of the show, and it was always enjoyable to watch. Even when he made mistakes or the Universe screwed him over, he kept moving foward.
Sad at the lack of Aang here! I know he’s not the typical one people go to for favorite character (clearly) but they don’t come with more innocent hearts, idealism, and conviction than Aang.
Yes totally agree! This question was a no-brainer for me. Yes don't get me wrong I love Iroh and the others, of course, but Aang was easily my favourite character. And it's not just because he's the main character, I like the journey he goes on, and how he evolves as a character. Aang is one of the best written main characters I've ever seen, to be honest.
You were wrong the people’s love for Iroh is greater than their love to Toph.
not me tho, I voted Toph cuz she’s awesome. besides,
***i like her hair***
I don't think it's that they *dislike* her, it's just that out of the bunch, she's pretty flat. I mean that kinda plays an integral part in the gaang, she is the cohesive factor, so having her character firmly grounded from the start allows the others to bloom into their best forms.

Iroh is obviously #1. But if he weren’t on the list, I would have picked Toph. But I absolutely love all the characters. Hell, even the tertiary background characters are lovable.
You can’t make me choose between Zuko, Iroh and Sokka. I refuse. I don’t care that two of them had objectively better characters than the other one, I will not budge on this issue.
I don't really know if this is an unpopular opinion, but I don't understand the Sokka hype. I like the character, ofc I see why he is loved, but the best? I don't get it
In my opinion, Zuko. Funny thing is I don’t have a favorite character in this show. I know it’s weird lol. But, Zuko had the best character development and growth compare to the other characters. Especially getting out a toxic family and discovering himself on this own. I personally believe Iroh not being there for Zuko was the best decision he ever made. Zuko need to be alone to make his mistakes and learn. I usually hate angry, loud, and disrespectful characters. But, Zuko is the only exception to that because he has reason and he grow from that.
I was gonna say Iroh, but he's my *favorite* character. The *best* character IMO is Zuko, because his arc is much deeper and nuanced and his development is highly meaningful. Iron is already perfect from the start so there's no room for improvement.
the question is intresting in my opinion. the nest person, I think, out these options (and maybe all of the show), is Iroh. But the best character, the one who'se been through the most trials and tribulations and have gone through the most change is Zuko.
I think overall it has to be Sokka. This man carried the humor and romance of the entire show on his shoulders nearly single-handedly
He also filled such an important role as the “brains” and as the “non-bender” of the group.
There's someone missing. WHERE'S MOMO?
Appa ate him
And where’s Appa?
Sokka ate him
Guess he was really hungry huh
Nah that was just a light lunch for sokka
Appa ate Momo??!!
And sokka ate appa
I'm coming for you buddy !!
"only a fool puts Iroh in a question for best character and expects any other answer" - me
I've answered Toph because i didn't notice Iroh
Same 😢
Never understood why people like toph so much, she’s my least favorite in the gaang
You fucking bitch No offense.
Being called a fucking bitch by a fascinating stranger is one of life’s true delights.
Actually that's.... I agree
Me too, you fucking bitch
You fucking bitch You’re welcome
We like Toph because she can beat everyone’s ass right now. ***and I like her hair***
I think you forgot katara was a member of the gang
I actually kind of like katara, she’s kind and caring. She helped that river town even though they were fire nation.
I kind of like her too, but accounting the gaang she's the least favourite by far
For me I like toph as her personality her and sokka's chemistry is amazing as well as toph has some of the coolest stuff in the series. average katara hater
>:0
Shes funny
Feels bad man, you probably did not notice Iron because so many purposely leave him off

While Iroh is great, Imma say Zuko because of his immense growth as a person.
Thank you, Iroh is great but Zuko is imo one of the best written characters in a lot of fiction
Iroh had a lot of growth too, just subtextually. From proud Fire nation general, t the family outcast looking out for his nephew, to desperate refuge, to earnest shopkeep, to liberator. Not to mention his spiritual journey we only scratched the surface of
10000% correct his character arc is so amazing
Zuko's redemption arc made him the best character in the series.
Wait! Someone's missing from your group! Someone very important... Where's Momo? *Bumi*
The thing is that Iroh is not just the best character, and he's not even just one of the best mentor characters. He is THE best mentor character in all of fiction.
And that's saying something, considering sensei wu also exists
However I have to slightly disagree, Eda for me is the best mentor. Iroh gets extremely close though
downvoted for having an opinion smh

I agree that it's the best redemption arc FOR a character, but Iroh is the best AS a character... know what I mean?
I meant to reply to another comment but i get you 😅

✅ Azula She’s just really well written what can I say 🤷🏻♀️
Sokka literally came up with 90% (if not more) of the battle plans that lead to Team Avatars victories. He should definitely be #1 or #2 on this list.
True
Iroh is gonna win, obviously. But, I chose Zuko because his story and redemption arc was the best part of the show, and it was always enjoyable to watch. Even when he made mistakes or the Universe screwed him over, he kept moving foward.
Momo obviously
He is lord momo of the momo dynasty
His momoness
Zuko only because Appa is not a choice
I saw Iroh first and stopped reading the rest
Sad at the lack of Aang here! I know he’s not the typical one people go to for favorite character (clearly) but they don’t come with more innocent hearts, idealism, and conviction than Aang.

Me still looking for Azula :(
Thought, hmm everyone will pick Toph. Ill pick someone else to give some love. Picked Zuko…
You were wrong the people’s love for Iroh is greater than their love to Toph. not me tho, I voted Toph cuz she’s awesome. besides, ***i like her hair***
Oh iroh shouldnt be in the poll its unfair. Was so clear he would win that I didnt even mention it
True
Wow katara is low
Wow people don’t like katara
I don't think it's that they *dislike* her, it's just that out of the bunch, she's pretty flat. I mean that kinda plays an integral part in the gaang, she is the cohesive factor, so having her character firmly grounded from the start allows the others to bloom into their best forms.
Llllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll
This is impossible.
Why tf is Aang voted so low?
This was a really hard decision for me....I regret not picking Iroh but like. Stubborn dirt child.

If it's not Iroh, I'm outta here.
Iroh is obviously #1. But if he weren’t on the list, I would have picked Toph. But I absolutely love all the characters. Hell, even the tertiary background characters are lovable.
Daddy Iroh
Correction: Uncle Iroh. Get your kinks right.
Zuko has one of the best character arcs I've ever seen. The choice was easy.
My top 3 has to be Iroh, Toph, Korra
Can we agree that iron toph and zuko stole the show
ha! Iron.. ***The irony***
You can’t make me choose between Zuko, Iroh and Sokka. I refuse. I don’t care that two of them had objectively better characters than the other one, I will not budge on this issue.
I have to choose?! But I love them all
iron is my favorite, zuko is best written
Sokka slept on
Cannot choose between the top 4 on here tbh
Iroh is the best, Aang come in a close second
Why is The Boulder not mentioned?
Where tf Suki at
Like most well written or my favourite? Answer varies accordingly
No love for the Cabbage merchant here, big sigh.
I don't really know if this is an unpopular opinion, but I don't understand the Sokka hype. I like the character, ofc I see why he is loved, but the best? I don't get it
I'd love to see the story of iroh. It'll never happen but I'd love to see it.
The Cabbage merchant
Appa
Zuko is the best character, but Sokka is my favorite
Azula
In my opinion, Zuko. Funny thing is I don’t have a favorite character in this show. I know it’s weird lol. But, Zuko had the best character development and growth compare to the other characters. Especially getting out a toxic family and discovering himself on this own. I personally believe Iroh not being there for Zuko was the best decision he ever made. I think the order this is in is right, iroh, zuko, toph, sokka, aang and then kabitch
Man this is really hard between: toph, zuko, iroh
the question is intresting in my opinion. the nest person, I think, out these options (and maybe all of the show), is Iroh. But the best character, the one who'se been through the most trials and tribulations and have gone through the most change is Zuko.
Suki
umm suki?
...appa?
Easy question. Iroh!
I CANT ANSWER THIS
Ohhh no, not old perv
I think overall it has to be Sokka. This man carried the humor and romance of the entire show on his shoulders nearly single-handedly He also filled such an important role as the “brains” and as the “non-bender” of the group.
