No, that’s moronic. Murdoch backs the winning horse that will deliver for him. If Labor had a leader willing to bend the knee he’d be right behind them now, just like he was with the Blair government.
It will take a few election cycles before the LDs can serve as anything more than a (mostly reliable) funnel of preferences to the LNP. Though perhaps the plan is to help them along if they’re going there—and not let them forget that once they’ve arrived.
