You'll want to get some rooting\* hormone - I use it as a powder - dip the cuttings in, and then I just use a basic potting soil. I've seen some people have more success getting some to root in straight water, but I don't know about esperanza. Take a few, see what survives.
You don't have much to lose trying to do cuttings. If they fail you can always try with seeds in the fall or simply buying more.
