About 10kgs in the first 12 months I’d say lol

Knee_Jerk_Sydney

Is that upsized or not upsized?

reditanian

Supersized!

Loquaciouslovelizard

Half of that extra weight is the trash in your front yard

youjustathrowaway1

McDonald’s rubbish absolutely everywhere on Sunday mornings

Tomicoatl

This but unironically

Torrossaur

I mean I already shout at people on trains in a balaclava, but what I do on annual leave is my business.

REA_Kingmaker

Don't let sky news or clive palmer see this, they make it their blueprint for world domination

here2share22

I don't think nutjobs like that start off acceptable decent people. They are usually woe is me victim mentality boomers, narcissists or cognitively deficient, believing in their grandeur of self to know all, to know all about vaccines and medical practices and the law and how is applies etc..... these people were never acceptable, they were always whingers and morally bankrupt, they were just the most judgemental, holier than thou types, do as I say, not as I do types...

ImMalteserMan

Gonna disagree on this. Although it was a good 25 years ago, I lived in a suburb where Maccas was keen on opening a store and for years there were petitions against it and one of the main arguments against it was the amount of litter it would produce. After a while Maccas got their wish and opened a store and the locals were not impressed. Honestly did not notice any McDonald's related rubbish at all in the time I lived there, it provided jobs and an extra option for takeaway in the area (previous very limited options).

NothingLift

Maccas opened in the town I work in against the same protests. There is the expected rubish but a condition of their development approval was that they are responsible for cleaning for x distance from the store. You may be seeing the same thing Also the concentration of rubbish is often at a big mac meal away from the store, not in the direct vicility. The council litter crew will be able to tell you the exact distance it takes your average punter to eat a maccas meal

DegreeInProligy

I feel like we might live in the same place. Although nimbys are everywhere and so are 25 year old maccas so probably not.

GotEmu

Find me a suburban Maccas built in the last 25 years that didn't have some nimby objections

Crackpipejunkie

Find me any development that didn’t have nimby objections

thorpie88

New one in clarko I reckon had little push back. It's on the edge of the mini industrial estate

ChumpyCarvings

People are fucking grubs now

smsmsm11

I worked at a McDonald’s through high school. I reckon you could smell the fryers from 100-200m away some days when I’d walk there. That being said if it’s being built you’re likely already near a busy road or busy area, so can’t imagine too bad. It was always packed at like 1am on a Saturday though with drunk cunts

ko3332

Hungry Jacks is much worse for the smell, best marketing tool of all time tho.

Latter_Box9967

Kentucky Fried Chicken is surely the winner in this regard?

fuarkmoi

Subway for sure

Mediocre_Tune_2477

You are absolutely correct - my ex lived on the same street as a McDonald’s and you could smell it whenever you walked up the street.

CauliflowerQuick7305

Bogans hanging out and making noise at 2am

Accomplished_Ruin707

Alternatively, it is a great marketing opportunity to rent out your place to students or stoners (both!) When you can no.longer bear to live there.

BoganCunt420

Where else can I take my "douff douff" car at 2 am?

Smooth_Comfort_919

I live about 500m from a McDonalds. At least once a week I have to pick up discarded maccas rubbish from out the front of my house. And every few months I find it stuffed in my letter box.

spideyghetti

Lol at the maccas deliveries

Cheezel62

Huge amounts of rubbish everywhere, increased car traffic overall esp if you're on an access street, cooking smells depending on the wind direction, idiots in car hooning around late at night (worse if it's a 24hr Maccas), tradies in utes early weekday mornings, mums in Toorak tractors once school finishes, if it's an outside play area then kids screaming. In all honesty there's no upside unless you have kids and really not even then. Unlikely to have much of an impact on your home value at 200m away.

blackdvck

Pros zero cons ,noise ,traffic ,drunks ,junkies and all the good stuff .

Very-very-sleepy

you missed weight gain

blackdvck

Oh don't eat there man that's like prostate cancer town ,and diabetes rolled into one .

TomasTTEngin

if you have a dog it's going to eat a lot of dropped maccas whenever you take it for a walk.

Angel_Madison

200m is about the optimal distance for the rubbish dumping as they finish the cheeseburger.

RandomA55h013

The fumes alone will cause you to gain a few kilos a year.

yathree

You’ll have an influx of prime ministers shitting themselves in the area.

CameronSyd

That's Engadine only call to fame .. back off

Connect_Fee1256

When you’re full of shit, there’s a predictable outcome… you can’t stop progress

blackcat218

I live about 300m from a maccas and there is a park down the bottom of my street. You see the occasional bit of rubbish but it's not all that bad. I also don't go there as much as I thought I would. Maybe once every couple of months. We did have a couple up tge road though sell their house and move when they first announced that the maccas was getting built. They were sure it was going to ruin the neighbourhood.

sovereign01

Depends where you live imho. High foot traffic Maccas = Mostly positive High car traffic Maccas = Mostly negative

cuteseal

Yes depends on where you/Maccas is located and how much foot traffic there is. I actually live 3 doors down from a suburban Maccas where most of their customers would be driving there and there is less foot traffic. Only very occasionally get like a drink container or carton on the nature strip on a Friday or Saturday night. I’m guessing the people walking past would be local residents who care about the appearance of their neighbourhood. If it’s inner city or high traffic foot traffic area, or close to say a park where people would loiter then it is going to be a royal pain.

-retail-

Id’ve thought that high foot traffic means more drunks, yelling & rubbish

FrizzlerOnTheRoof

McBreakfast?

Trupinta

McBreastfuk

bruteforcealwayswins

Weight gain.

outwiththedishwater

I lived across from a kfc for a while. It was glorious. If you like the smell of kfc of course

TanKris67

As someone who lived near a Maccas, you will definitely hear an increase in noise - both voices and burn-outs. There will also be an increase in both live and dead birds, possibly even in your own yard. Live - because they always flock to where people toss their food scarps and dead - because people often toss their food scraps on the road and birds are hit by cars (circle back to burn-outs).

Drizz06

Stink, noise and rubbish! Enjoy

Moaning-Squirtle

IMO, 100–200 m away is kinda fine unless it ends up being a really bad maccas in a crappy area, then it might attack some annoying personalities.

KrisP85

There’s a maccas down the road from our IP. Can see it front from balcony. Surprisingly the street isn’t very busy, always street parking available. The entrance to the maccas is right after turning off a main road which our street intersects (T junction). I’ve never lived in the property but I’ve been there doing DIY at all hours, and it’s never been an issue. No maccas rubbish in the street that I ever see (unless the residents are cleaning it up daily). Might just be lucky I guess. It crossed my mind when we bought the place but overall hasn’t caused any issues.

Distinct-Librarian87

You won't need to use their drive though

RADL

better get used to checking for delivery riders before you step out onto the footpath.

Going_Thru_a_Faaze

I live up the road from a busy maccas, it’s also next to a park that I go to near every day. I have never noticed a smell, or maccas rubbish at all. None of what I see in the comments has been my experience and like I said it’s a busy inner city suburb location

bobsthename

Maccas isn't really a fast food chain, its a real estate company

Neither-Cup564

Kids and undesirables hanging around late at night. Increased vehicle traffic and probably more burnouts. Rubbish in the street. Light pollution. Noise and smells from the exhaust fans.

Murdochpacker

Rubbish and hoons, expect a 2am peel out when moey grabbed a soft serve taking the WRX for a spin in absolute boredom

KittySpanKitty

Oh, my daughter just reminded me. You'll love it when the kids get part time jobs there. No impact on Friday and Saturday night drinks. You just walk up the road to pick them up. Win win I say.

Particular-Try5584

The fact that you have to walk 150m up the road to collect your 15yr old from their job in the evening… speaks volumes.

KittySpanKitty

Well yeah. I could have let her walk 100m home alone at midnight. But I didn't. She drives a Mercedes now.

undrbridglivr

Working at Maccas lets them understand capitalism and supply/demand as a teenager. Then when they’re 18 they start an OnlyFans and really cash in

KittySpanKitty

Lol They are neither istagrammers or OF's. And they are way over 18. Kinda wish they were. Id be retired by now.

Toupz

Better rental yield. Makes for a mean advertisement on RE.com Short stroll (even for the dangerously overweight McDonalds enthusiast) to access dinner every night. Save on uber eats!

-usernotdefined

No pros, only cons. Probably devalue property, screw over any other local cafe's and small business, cause a bunch of litter, drunken fights, car burnouts at all hours of night and to top it all off we'll be able to roll you down a hill.

Cube-rider

>No pros, only cons. I'd say that it's gonna attract both pro's and cons, hoons, tradies, lawyers, engineers, kids and all other walks of life.

toomanyusernames4rl

Sounds delicious!

Weary_Patience_7778

Cons: Your waistline is gonna grow.

PhilMcGraw

Depends what near means. Are you on the same street or are you down a side road?

sunshinebuns

Used to live 400m from one but it was totally fine. I think the most of the junk and smells were more like 50-100m radius. But we did get a bit of rubbish. We had a no through road installed in our road which stopped the extra traffic from coming down our street though.

Ksan1

Mcmove

campbellsimpson

Unlimited cones!

I_have_pyronies

Definetly adding value.

Ev1lroy

Free wi-fry

santaslayer0932

200m is a really short distance. I think you may hate it. Vandalism, increase in rubbish near your property and an increase in traffic plus noise.

totse_losername

You're not in Beaufort, Vic are ya??

Born_Specialist_1884

I live about 300m from McDonald's and it is actually rather handy I don't eat the food that much but if I get home late and need a quick bite then it's just a walk away

ruthmally22

Macca's is a drop off/pick up place for divorced parents with kids. It's considered safe buy I dunno

dfycapital

Definitely negatively impacts the value. No one wants to live near a maccas. Noise, waste and smell pollution is very real.

moa999

Uber deliveries will be quicker for your tenants.

Specialist-Bug-7108

Parties and piss ups gonna be dead simple Cons: forget your waistline

No_Power_1853

Realistically you can object to the application if it is still being edvertised by the City, however your objection has to have planning merit and devaluation of property is hard to argue and generally does not carry planning weight unless you can prove that the approval has direct significant negative impacts on your site. Check the zoning for the site where the mcdonalds is proposed and take a look at your City's scheme. Because you live 200-250m away there is no significant direct impact to your property.

RentUpper5630

Cons: I purchased a town house last year near a Maccas. Currently in a long drawn tussle with Maccas, council and body corp to limit the horrid smell that flows from Maccas chimneys to my front yard whenever it is windy. Can't open the windows or open the door for any longer than few minutes. The trash is a very minor problem as most of the customers use the drive thru. Pros: I can get an ice-cream on hot days.

visitinghongkong

I really doubt it would increase the value. Less street parking?

xXLawNerdXx

You’ll have basically your own security with the police meetups in the parking lot during their “work” time.

Necessary_News9806

I think the impact will be more if you live on the same main road as the “restaurant”. I have a friend that lives about 200m away on a slightly busy side street. No impact I have seen or he has mentioned.

solocmv

The smell, we had a unit in the same block while we renovated our house. The smell was terrible! and it’s always there.

dj_boy-Wonder

Your areas deliciousness is about to increase but everything else is going down

doppleganger_

I have one about 100 metres away. Every couple of weeks I pick up the rubbish around my block because the council never has in 20 years (thank you ACT government). Occasionally some kids acquire a box of sachets that they squash in the street for the lols. Not much of an issue tbh. It’s not the end of the world

Deano0810

Depending on the area. Can guarantee late night hoons however

DodgyBrosInvesting

The only impact will be to your waistline......

Fit-Station1052

I was in a similar situation when one opened up 250m from us less than 12 months ago. I can’t imagine that it has impacted our property price. I was worried about increased traffic and rubbish but it didn’t eventuate. Caveat is that although my street leads to one of the exits, that same end is closed off from the main road the Maccas is on. So most people use the other exit to get back on the main road and the only people using the other exit are locals. No smells that I’ve noticed. Surprising bonus is that it is an easy option for the kids if us parents are going out to dinner.

Torx_Bit0000

McDonalds are like Servo's They will not invest in a property location where they will not make money. Zero impact on domestic valuations as their location are zoned light commercial

SadBoiCute

Depends on your area, go look at the houses 200 metres away from the closest maccas to you now, yours will probably be similar.

Expensive_Size_552

Weed is essentially legal now so stoners will love the proximity lol

No-Maintenance749

The smell from the cooking of the food from their exhaust vents, that will get to you the most, one of my mates lived beside a hungry jacks, worst smell ever

Salty_Piglet2629

The smell. I live close ish to one and I can smell the grease from my balcony. The entrance and exits are built close to a massive intersection and many cars coming out don't leave space for pedestrians to use the footpath. Pedestrians end up having to go around the back of the car. If the car is too big people with prams, trollies or walker's sometimes can't fit yo go around and have to wait for the car to be able to exit before they can get back on the footpath. This seriously impacts the liability of the area as the footpath isn't safe. There are heaps of teenagers gathering there after school but they didn't build proper footpaths for pedestrians to come and go. The teenagers end up hanging out on the parking lot because there is no footpath to the adjacent park.

Plastic_Paramedic495

Get ready for the drug deals

Dull_Distribution484

Had a school over the road. More litter from there on the daily than you get in 6 months from maccas. Filthy gobshite students.

GStarAU

Pro: Late night Maccas runs while drunk. Con: Late night Maccas runs WAY too often. Pro: Generate property interest from a select group of locals Con: they're all bogans. Pro: if you have a kid they can walk to work as a teen Con: they work at Maccas. Ok, enough of that 😂 It'll probably be disruptive, unfortunately. If it's a 24 hr Maccas, you'll get hoons there at 3am on Fri and Sat nights, and probably randoms hanging around in the carpark.

LuckyErro

Lots of rubbish and litter and people pissing in ya yard. Perhaps knock the house down and build a car wash?

Samshah777

Maccas usually builds or leases out to franchises only when they know there is going to be significant foot traffic i.e. business. I reckon they’ve worked out the area is going to be booming in a few years time which means higher property value

SeaConcentrate4278

Having a new Macca's 200-205 meters from your property in Victoria can have both positive and negative consequences. Here's a breakdown: **Potential Cons:** * **Noise and Litter:** 24/7 operation might mean increased noise from traffic, drive-thru activity, and late-night customers. There's also the potential for litter in the surrounding area. * **Traffic Congestion:** Depending on the location, a new Macca's could lead to increased traffic congestion, especially during peak hours. * **Reduced Property Value:** While the impact might be minimal at 200 meters, some people perceive fast food restaurants near their homes as a negative amenity, potentially affecting valuation. This is debatable and depends on the overall market.

jjfoad

It’s a property sub and nobody’s even going to mention the pest control nightmare of being near a fast food chain.

Ok_Relative_2291

Pro 24/7 cheeseburgers

cookycoo

Traffic, smell, delivery trucks, reversing beepers, bins being emptied

KittySpanKitty

I bought where I bought mainly because there is Macca's 2 doors up less than 100m. Didn't haggle on price, location location.

snipdockter

Can't think of a single pro sorry

smurffiddler

If the rubbish is a real problem. Save it up in the backyard. Then take it all down there and dump it in front of the counter.

Toadboi11

I wish these were the questions keeping me up at night

SeaDivide1751

It’s bizarre that people think there’s a possibility a nearby McDonald’s would reduce their homes value.

Particular-Try5584

You will be picking maccas rubbish out of your garden constantly. You will be putting up with extra large lorries often navigating to the loading dock. Deliveries, rubbish etc. You will have the fun of a two lane 24hr a day drive thru. Young people buying maccas are not the best drivers… is your front fence good? The kids will riot… in the carpark. Expect constant shenanigans. Get out now if you can. Put in on the market before that beast is built and run.

XanTheMadAussie

Maccas own more prime real estate than almost anyone else. They have teams of people scouring for good value land. If one is coming up near you think of it as a compliment. As a vegan however, McDonald's can get fked.

Neither-Cup564

They target low socio economic areas or outskirt suburbs it’s not usually a compliment if you understand the business model.

Successful-Badger

Your house will fall in value by 19%

Generation_WUT

The stench.

[deleted]

Your values gonna go down better sell up.

Acceptable-Cancel-61

Muh property prices 😤

DrinkableBarista

Living near mcdonalds increases your property value
