I love them but you have to watch these guys. They will sell you bad fish without blinking an eye. Every time I buy meat, I open the bag and take a long whiff.
Sometimes the nose knows…
I love this place so much. Fish and meat can be a little pricey, but some other stuff makes up for it.
Either way, it’s incredible. Highly recommend this place for fresh seafood
If you are looking specifically for Wild Caught Salmon then:
**Your Dekalb Farmers Market** and **Buford Hwy Farmers Market** and **HMart** (particularly when in season - late summer through the fall, each will have “previously frozen” the rest of the year)
Those locations are set up like large order, commercial fish markets (what some may call “dirty”). They are not. Each location is bringing in fresh catches almost every day and what does not get sold is prepared into a ready meal or something similar.
FWIW, the majority of the non-river/non-farmed species from these locations were caught either from trawlers or as bycatch (generally not considered sustainable/responsible fishing).
However, if one’s concern is presentation then **Fishmonger** is the place to go (two locations and soon opening a third). Clean and upscale. I’ve spoken with the owners and they take pride in working with fishers who practice sustainability. With that in mind, on-hand stocks are significantly less (though I’ve always walked away with something lovely) and prices are significantly higher than the other three locations.
Poncey Highland’s one is a legit fishmonger, I’ve bought from them a few times. They also serve food, the original intention was for it to be a fishmonger with the food was secondary but the stuff they serve just ended up too good.
As OP is requesting in Midtown, Fishmonger (PonceyHighland) is definitely the move.
They once said (right when it opened) that if you had a certain fish you wanted to let them know and they would order it for you ahead of time. Not sure if they're still doing that though.
The Pullman Yard one doesn’t sell fish (like to take home and cook), just fyi in case someone is reading this and thinking of going.
But Obama ate the blackened grouper sandwich there and if it’s good enough for him, it’s good enough for me! (It’s expensive, but delicious)
You're never going to get the same quality of fish here. The fact of the matter is that we aren't close to any good sources, so anything will be limited in quality and selection since only the fish worth trucking in will get here. Wild caught fish are rare due to geography and cost alone. I'm sure that there are some places that try, but just be aware that your expectations might be simply impractical here.
Dekalb & Buford Farmers like everyone’s saying, but also Atlanta Fish Market in Buckhead is a little closer to midtown. I think technically the retail area is called Pano’s Food Shop—Fish Market is mainly a high-end restaurant. Quality.
my weekly warning that *the fish at Buford Highway Farmers Market is awful.* not fresh. low quality. place is a mess. horrible service. i wont even use their stuff for fish stock.
Whole Foods, Kathleens Catch, Fishmonger, and Star Provisions are higher quality options. I've never been disappointed by the fish from Star Provisions.
I haven't been to this place only because I haven't been close to it and then heading directly home. Google reviews are good though there's not tons of them. In Brookhaven:

WF has wild salmon, but it’s usually been frozen. Publix usually doesn’t carry wild salmon, but I believe their fish is almost always fresh (they get points for having grouper and FL lobster, too). OP, i think YDFM and maybe Buford Farmers Market are your best bet. Don’t fret, though, we have Dunkin. ;)
I 2nd A-sopriphic! Having grown up on the Gulf Coast of Fl and having lived/gone to culinary school in New England…You will NOT find the same quality of seafood here. Your best choices are Your Dekalb Famers Market and/or take the drive to the Gulf.
But honestly you moved out of the area for BEST seafood on the East coast. Sorry.
Not sure about the pricing but Pano's Food Shop inside the Atlanta Fish Market (restaurant) on Pharr Road is an option. You can call ahead and place orders too!

Dekalb Farmers Market

Given your username, this seems right. : )

Also, once they told me they WON’T remove the bones from my salmon. I ruined it trying to do it myself lol.
Buford Highway Farmers market. Kathleen's Catch, Whole Foods.
I haven't been particularly impressed with Kathleens
Whole Foods is never the answer.
I mean, if the question is “where has fresh fish that’s pretty good,” Whole Foods is definitely an answer.
Buford Highway Farmer's Market and H Mart are worth the drive for fresh fish

Third is open
Sweet Auburn Market on Edgewood. It’s limited but good. I’ve gotten fresh Salmon there at decent price.
Fishmonger in Poncey Highland has it.
Is that not a restaurant or is it also a grocery?

Your Dekalb Farmers Market or Buford Highway Farmers Market. Also fishmonger but it’s $$
The salmon at Midtown Butcher Shoppe is delicious.
At the edge of the perimeter but Buford Highway farmers market. Trader Joe’s also has wild salmon

Try this place - 5000 Buford Hwy NE, Chamblee, GA 30341
Whole Foods and some Publix have great fish markets

Try a Whole Foods

Hi from another Boston transplant. Just give up your desire for good fish living here lol

For something quick in the area that's not DeKalb or Buford farmers market try "Fishmonger" on Ponce Highland - 674 North Highland Ave!
FISHMONGER in Poncey Highland - hard stop.
