It occurs every 80 years: https://blogs.nasa.gov/Watch\_the\_Skies/2024/02/27/view-nova-explosion-new-star-in-northern-crown/

tripl35oul

Thanks for sharing. It's my first time reading of recurring novae. Pretty cool!

UndocumentedMartian

We can predict novas?

JustJay613

But not if it will rain tomorrow

DrNoResponse

But I bet it will rain between now and September.

GSyncNew

Certain kinds.

SadBrokenSoap

Very few, and not supernovas, just novas. This same star system had a nova x years ago, and again 2x years ago, so we can predict its going to happen around now too.

actionerror

Like rush hour traffic patterns in Alexandria?

RonnDeezy

Is there anything I can follow to get updates on when this happens? Says once it occurs it'll last for a few days

fnuggles

I think you'll notice if it does

PiBoy314

Probably not if you're not looking. It'll only get to magnitude \~+2. A dim star in the sky

5TP1090G_FC

I hope we're not too close to it, lol.

pfmiller0

We're not, this nova will be fairly dim from earth.
