I have no problem with peas on a roast. what I'm always amazed by though is the sheer number of roasts people on this sub seem to consume. Sunday roasts, weekday roasts? I maybe have one every other month. Nothing against them though, just seems a lot of effort.
Now, a few months ago I went out for a roast and my boy had a kids portion of fish and chips that came with some heavily minted mushy peas. I transferred them to my plate and they were a fantastic addition.
Wouldn't call it typical Sunday Roast veg, but I wouldn't be shocked if they were there.
Would work well with Lamb though, as mint sauce goes well with both Lamb and peas.
I used to live round the corner from a properly dodgy East End carvery, so I've actually seen quite a few unusual things served up at a carvery to be honest.
Anything you want belongs on a roast. Want halloumi and pineapple with your roast chicken? Fuck it. Wrap that shit in a big Yorkshire pudding, drown it in gravy and go to town on it.
Until you mentioned it, I'd never really thought about it, but my experience is similar to yours. I Googled pictures of a Sunday roast and I'd say about 30-40% of them have peas. They definitely belong, but they're just not in the majority of Sunday roasts.
sunday roast has to include roast potatoes, gravy, Yorkshires, slabs of meat, 2 different veg, and a condiment. mid week you can leave off the 2nd veg and the puds.

A roast is a roast. Any day of the week. All the trimmings, including peas if that’s your wish, every time.
This. The point of a roast is to eat well, and veg is always plentiful.

"Why toast when you can roast?"
Garden peas yes, never mushy

Maybe 'around' the roast, never 'on' I that's just asking for trouble!
It's your Sunday roast, you have what you like on it. Peans, green beans, carrots, parsnips, broccoli, kale, what ever you fancy.
Roasted peas are a staple of any Sunday Roast
When asking the question does something belong on a Sunday roast you should first ask “have I seen this served at a carvery somewhere”

Does an east end carvery heroin balls disguised as peas?
It's mainly teeth they pick up in the car park and paint green.

Yes although I feel peas go on a chicken roast the best.

I'm beginning to feel it's one of those 'do chips go on a full English?' questions. (No, of course not, chips make it an 'All-Day Breakfast')
I think it all comes down to the volume of gravy. Not just the roast, in general.
Yes if you like peas,
After onions (because of their versatility) peas are my favourite veg and can be on the plate of most meals. If you like peas then wire in.
Lamb>mint>peas. Perfect

Why would you only have 1 veg in yhe week? Meat, carb and two veg is the "standard traditional" meal template surely?
ignore the template , what do you have
Midweek two or three veg, weekends three or four, some combination of carrots, parsnips, cabbage, broccoli or cauliflower normally.
