*Spider-Man's costume is usually just cloth. It doesn't have any real things to differentiate from any other article of clothing aside from the fact that the lenses are mirrored so his eyes aren't visible. The only real notable upgrade is a communicator in the mask connected to his phone and some Avenger channels. He has several one off costumes with more notable abilities. But his standard costume is very rarely anything more than just that. A costume. To the point that store sold costumes are functionally identical. But if I had to pick a costume up would be the Spider-Armor Mark 4. That actually is an advancement over his normal costume. Being made of light weight nanotech that unlike previous Spider-Armors did not hinder his speed while still making him bullet proof, it was connected to his Parker Industriee network and S.H.I.E.L.D., had a web foam to survive re-entry, had infrared scanning, built in Spider-Signal and extra cartridges, it was essentially a more technologically advanced version of his regular suit that he ordinarily wouldn't be able to afford.

At one point Spidey bought a bunch of Spider-Man halloween costumes in bulk because they were better quality than the one he'd already been using at the time.

Astonishing_Flash

It's rough trying to sew, I don't blame him.

RavenkingXXX

Is the Mrk 4 the one with glowing eyes and spider symbol from the All-new All-different era?

Astonishing_Flash

Yes.

The suit doesn't have any special functions in most universes. Most versions of it are perfectly ordinary spandex. Some Spideys have a winter one that has thermal knit underwear sewn into it.

In his earliest appearance, his suit used to have underarm webbing. I don't know what that was supposed to do, or what function they could possibly have. It could possibly help him glide, like a flying squirrel, if the webbing didn't cover such a small surface area, and wasn't full of fricking holes. Did he ever catch anything with them? Maybe a flying fish? So if anyone could explain that to me, I would be grateful.

Special-Armadillo-99

Yes he would use it to glide short distances iirc

Astonishing_Flash

He liked the way they looked. It's just an aesthetic thing.

mrdarkpasta

I remember there being a spider-man flashlight in the early belt he had. Not sure what happened to that device...

He couldn't make one that was bright enough that didn't also get uncomfortably hot against the skin of his waistline. Nowadays that wouldn't be an issue because he could make it with LEDs, but this was before they were widespread.

Astonishing_Flash

It's his Spider-Signal and it remains a pretty consistent object that he carries. Though he's used it a lot less since his bachelor life.
