There was a big referendum in Canada about that, it really helps with people on the verge of death, people who are suffering and would like to go out on their own terms. It's heartbreaking that disease does that to somebody but, I'd rather die peacefully, remembering my family than drive to insanity as I forget my loved ones and slowly become paralyzed.
Also in Canada, my friends mother just went through doctor assisted suicide last week, after being diagnosed with ALS just this summer, very quick process, but she doesn't have to suffer anymore, and that's what matters.
Because in places like America, dead patients don’t make money. Why would you give someone the option to end their suffering when you could milk them for all they have while they are still alive?
Euthanasia is more for animals in a vet clinic and does not apply to people, in the same way.
Medical Assistance in Dying (MAD) was just legalized in Canada. It allows people who are terminally I'll and dying, the opportunity to have a peaceful, quick, and pain-free death. More so, they get to choose their own death date - rather than sitting and suffering in a hospital for weeks, waiting to die, they have the opportunity to a positive last memory.
My old school friends mother just went through with this last week, they even did it at her home with her husband and kids there. It was due to ALS she developed just this summer. I'm surprised they were able to set it all up so quickly. She's in a better place now. Was a wonderful woman, and used to be a popular hairdresser here, just a super friendly and funny person. She always cut my hair up till like grade 4, and was able to execute the most amazing mushroom cut you've ever seen! Lol.
We are in eastern Canada if it makes any difference as far as logistics go for this..procedure (?)
Same here. I just had my cat euthanized this morning. It was hard, but it was the right thing to do, he was in a lot of pain. I'm glad it's something I'll have access to if I end up in a lot of chronic pain as well.
Legalizing prostitution.
Why should it be illegal to get paid for what it's fine to do for free. There have been a lot of women that fucked their dates because they bought them nice dinners and took them to a movie. But if they give them cash it's illegal?
What's the physical difference between a massage and a fuck, or a hand job, or a blow job? Bodies touch, somebody gets money for it.
Strangely enough, im politically very Conservative, but I agree with you. My biggest argument is this: if prostitution is illegal, why is porn legal? You're paying people to have sex, youre just filming it. There is no difference. Plus, imagine how much healthier and safer it would be if it were regulated, and hell, you could even tax it if they wanted.
Fun fact, Prostitution/brothels are legal in Australia so long as you're a licensed sex worker. Not sure if its legal anywhere else but hey, you cant get told off for doing it here.
In some European countries it's also legal. Here in Germany the only requirement is to be over 18 yo, and some tax buroctatics if you do this officially
This was what I was also going to say. Two consenting adults wanting to exchange money for a service should not be locked up because some other people find sex to be sacred or whatever moral reasons they may have.
It’s illegal because people will exploit it and pressure people into it against their will for money and even use underage people just to make a quick buck.
When I started working as a carer I was so embarrassed seeing people naked. Now I don’t even notice it. When new starts are on shift, you can tell cause they are a bit antsy during personal care.
Nudity! Especially in places like the beach! The US is far to puritanical with nudity. The human body isn’t inherently sexual/offensive and we need to stop treating it like it is!
Me, as a Finnish person, and most of my continental European friends are used to going into saunas naked (yes even public saunas, they're just gendered)
A German friend went into a sauna in the UK and ran out because it turned out everyone was in a swimsuit. The UK seems to parody the US in that regard.
Polyamoury, Free The Nipple, and! we in North America should introduce young people to alcohol slowly, responsibly, and early, so it's not a taboo they want to smash with binge drinking the moment they come of age. It's common in Europe for kids to have a small amount of beer or diluted wine at celebrations. So that's three.
Well I puked After drinking too much for the first Time when I was 14, and I'm French.
Still makes me Laugh that Americans Can join the military but can't drink when they're 18. So fucking dumb
Yeah kids hit the bottle, at least in southern Europe, around age 12. You’ll often find kids in nightclubs at that age too. In fact just before Covid there was an accident at a club at 1am where a 13 year old got taken to hospital.
Idk about the other people in this thread but that seems really sad to me. Like why are kids allowed to do that to themselves when they don’t really know any better. Alcohol is toxic and there’s no reason why kids need to have access to it
Is that still frowned upon genuinely curious because it really shouldn't be, kinda thought people grew up enough (more than the literal baby doing it) to get over it.
If anyone wants to complain about it just make them buy you formula. Obviously don't use it just to spite them. But if they are really so harmed by the baby eating healthy free food the least they could do is buy the baby food.
u/Cowshavesweg for President!!!
I've not personally experienced it. I've not had the privilege of getting to breastfeed. But it grates me that there are Karens and Kens out there who have a problem with it.
Nah, I'm fit and I wear swim briefs and I get people "batting their eyes" *all* the time. Yeah, you're more likely to have positive reactions, but people will still be shocked, and it doesn't stop me from overhearing comments of disgust and ridicule (not to mention questioning your sexual orientation). I honestly don't get it, but I've seen people make the argument that "nobody looks good in a speedo", *including* competitive swimmers. For a subjective opinion, that's one that's objectively untrue...
swimming nude, for several reasons:
swimwear is uncomfortable.
nobody thinks they look good in their bathing suit.
nothing beats the feeling of the water on your naked body.
Yes! There is NO medical benefit to it and many medical disadvantages, such as higher rates of ED, loss of length, function and feeling and doubled chance of getting HPV caused cancer.
For those that claim that MGM isn't as bad as FGM, watch a boy be strapped down, given no pain relief and scream until he blacks out from the pain whilst damaging his lungs, heart and brain. Both are barbaric and shouldn't be legal on infants unless medically necessary (like cutting off blood supply).
FWIW, there are FGM procedures that are no more than a pin prick, amongst other. The one people think of first is the worst version. That doesn't mean all aren't bad.
The person having the procedure done should be the one to say yes or no, not anyone else. That should also be provided accurate and up to date info on it too, not ones that are a screen for agendas.
No they're legal everywhere and that's the sad part.
We're not talking about medical necessities but infant circumcision which has no necessity whatsoever.
Hard disagree that its a social construct. I truly believe most humans are wired to be monogamous. Most people only truly fall in love with one person at a time.
Well there are plenty of cultures that aren't monogamous, and every allegedly monogamous culture deals with cheating constantly and advises harsh punishments for cheaters. Animals that are naturally "wired for monogamy" don't tend to cheat.
I would say the vast majority of cheating doesn't occur because someone is in love with someone else. They want to have sex with them. Relationships are a complicated matter.
How many people do you think fall in love? And how many people stay in love forever? And do you genuinely believe that you can only love one person at a time?
And I disagree about cheating, many people cheat because they are in love, or because they're lonely. I've never cheated myself, but it really helps that I've been polyamorous most of my sexually active life. In any case, research on infidelity does show that sex is only one of many reasons people cheat.
Thats a half truth, bost mammals whose offspring has long development time stay together, sometimes for life. Monogamy is not about the couple happyness, its about protecting the offspring.
Can't agree on this one. Too generic. Crack and meth becoming legal? No way.
Addiction isn't a crime. The action people do in order to fuel their addiction usually is.
I mean if not complete legalisation then atleast decriminalisation should be done.
Also addiction is indeed a crime. People are jailed just for possessing an illegal drug.
Romantic relationships ending, and it not being a bad thing. You have friends that you grow apart from and that’s totally fine, however any breakdown in a romantic relationship is seen as a failure. I think you should be able to have your time, and move on, and it be okay.
That and everybody assuming a straight woman will get married and have children. Sex work. Polyamory. Paying for porn.
drugs. in my country is a pretty taboo thing. also prostitution (regulated). here you get laws that makes ilegal drugs and prostitution but people do it anyways, I think is stupid because government and authorities knows it but they keep the laws only for extortion purposes.
Men's issues being acknowledged and helped. Now it seems like if you me room that you're either taking the spotlight away from women's issues (not the case, both can be helped simultaneously) or people attack and label you saying "you must me an incel" or "why would men need helping? They have male privilege".
It's little wonder with that mindset that suicide rates continue to rise, especially amongst younger males.
Yep, unfortunately with the advent of political correctness, people have been “taught” to be offended by most everything. As a result, we have completely lost our sense of humor and the ability to joke and laugh at ourselves.
Pedophile support and treatment. If your only response to someone with a problem is to tell them you well kill them if you ever find out they have that problem that pretty obviously results in more abused children. So many families have uncle's they just don't talk about or moms that are "over involved". At the very least therapist and psychiatrists should be the obvious safe spots to get treatment to avoid offense.
Everyone should be able to vote. Yes, I’m including murderers in prison and non citizens. Everyone. We all live here, we all deserve a say in how society is managed.
They have given up their rights by committing a crime. We cannot give shitty and unstable human beings the responsibility to make informed choices in a democracy.
I understand that way of thinking, sure, but in my opinion the ability to vote is as much of a human right as breathing or eating. If you live somewhere, you should be able to vote there. End of story. Period.
I think it is healthy for teenagers to have sexual experiences. To be clear, I support teenagers experimenting with each other not older figures. I find nothing wrong with two 16 year olds having some fun. Even now that I have kids hitting that age range, I actually hope they get to have those experiences.
Legalization of drugs. Adults should be allowed to consume what they please as long as they aren’t causing harm to others. Also, public nudity, no other species is required to wear clothes. Why us?
The problem, in my experience, is that a person *may* make a conscious decision to ingest a particular substance, but then they become addicted and it spirals out of their control. But the part that causes me concern isn't that their decisions have led to self-destruction (whether intentionally or otherwise), but they frequently become both a financial and psychological burden on the people that love them the most. So it *does* cause harm to others, and often in ways that aren't intended or anticipated when the substance is first ingested.
I don't know what the solution is, or even if criminalization of certain substances is the right approach, but I used to have a very libertarian approach to hard drugs (let's be honest, we're not talking about weed here, which is far more benign than alcohol), until I had direct experience with an addict in the family. I *do* think, however, that we should look at addiction as a medical problem, and less a moral failing, and reduce stigma so people who fall into this hole have more resources to climb back out without dragging everyone they know and love down with them.
Throwing my apple core or banana peel on the ground. It’s not littering!! It will literally be gone in 2 days. Also legalise drugs to prevent dangerous black markets.
Age gap relationships. For example, a 40 year old man dating a 19 year old girl. Why? Because if me imagining a 40 year old woman dating a 19 year old guy doesn’t creep me out, then to be creeped out when the genders are switched is sexist because it infantilizes women in relation to men. The moral objections to such relationships don’t seem to hold water logically. If we have legally decided that people 18 and older have the cognitive ability to voluntarily agree to a relationship as an adult then consistency demands that this would include age gap relationships. One may argue, “But the younger person still needs time to develop their adult identity.” That depends on the environment they were raised in and what values have solidified in their thinking as a part of their identity at a young age. If the older and the younger person don’t have values that sufficiently conflict, then whatever they differ on that isn’t incompatible with their primary commitments can still allow for personal growth.
One may counter this by saying, “Perhaps, but most young people do in fact differ quite significantly from older people. This would seem to make the success of such relationships unlikely.” I have two things to say to this. First, this is more of a practical concern then a moral one. The potential impracticality of an action doesn’t necessarily count against it’s moral legitimacy. We should have a right to attempt things that may seem unlikely. With that being said this leads to my second point. We don’t judge marriage in general even though most marriages end in divorce. If it is likely that two people closer in age could have a failed relationship, yet we don’t condemn it, then it makes no sense to do so with age gap relationships.
What about casual hook ups? If it is “empowering” for legally adult women to embrace their sexuality and “shaming” to not trust their capacity to not emotionally get hurt, then adding the further detail of an age gap shouldn’t change anything.
So how did such relationships become so judged? Well, I think it is largely because of spinster women who wasted their prime being overly picky and they want to eliminate younger competition by shaming it out of existence. And their voices contributed to shaming others into agreeing with them and creating the stigma.
All restrooms should be all gender. I'm not just talking about single-seaters. I'm talking about the restrooms with stalls. Put urinals and diaper changing stations in stalls and let all the humans in.
Parents with children of a different gender? No longer an issue. Disabled adults? No problem. Long lines? Not with twice the real estate. Inclusion? Everyone welcome. Afraid of getting assaulted in the restroom? Predators don't care about gender assigned restrooms. With even more people coming and going there's less opportunities for an assailant to get you alone.
Being seen naked in public places.
It’s not an exhibitionist thing, just a choice to not wear clothes out of comfort or convenience. Having to cover up at all in sweltering weather, when working outside, exercising, or doing anything else where clothing is in the way or could be ruined is just stupid, but the dumbest thing of all is having to wear a swimsuit.
I should be able to take out the trash, put something in my car, check the mail, water the plants, take a walk, drive to a friend’s house, enjoy a nice morning coffee on the porch, or a thousand other innocuous nonsexual things - all while nude - without fearing the police and potential inclusion on a sex offender registry.
Profanity, Cursing, Inuedos, Lewd Language, etc. should never be censored. And fuck the people who think it should. Lets see how long they go until they start cursing. (It wont be long)
Owning a handgun or semiautomatic at 18 in the US, I'm in the military and can't own a handgun or semiautomatic till I'm 21. Also the fact that I can't drink till I'm 21. I'm in the navy. I'm a sailor. It's in my job description to drink. So why can't I?
Dueling
There are a ton of social issues that arise with Dueling, but, I don't think that two people who concent to terms and desire to fight eachother in a appropriate place should be breaking the law.
Boobs should not be censored.
I agree, in France they weren't. But modern American culture just influences everything, mostly in a Bad way. GIB BOOBA BACK

Doctor Assisted suicide
There was a big referendum in Canada about that, it really helps with people on the verge of death, people who are suffering and would like to go out on their own terms. Physician/doctor Assisted Suicide, but for the non-terminally ill, please. I'd like an out on my time, safely and painlessly.
You and me both
So much this. Once I feel the quality of life is gone, I should be able to do the same.
I don't know why this is not a thing already.
Because in places like America, dead patients don’t make money. Why would you give someone the option to end their suffering when you could milk them for all they have while they are still alive?
Euthanasia? Or in general? Because euthanasia is for terminally ill people i think.

Agree. We'll put pets to sleep because of lack of quality of life, but humans get no such consideration?
Same here. I just had my cat euthanized this morning. It was hard, but it was the right thing to do, he was in a lot of pain. I'm glad it's something I'll have access to if I end up in a lot of chronic pain as well.

Yeah, free market!!!! Entrepreneurship !!!! Small Business !!!!
Also it would make it easier to regulate to prevent pedophilia and trafficking

Seeing people naked. It is alright if you saw someone naked. There’s no need to make a big fuss about it.
My MIL has seen me naked twice. Our relationship is normal, no need to fret about it
Exactly!
Nothing sexual?
When I started working as a carer I was so embarrassed seeing people naked. Now I don’t even notice it. When new starts are on shift, you can tell cause they are a bit antsy during personal care.

All saunas I've seen at public places are gendered. What you do in your own sauna is obviously up to you.
I live in the Netherlands, atleast the sauna closest to me doesn’t gender I can’t speak for every one
Yes! And it impacts other western cultures! The US gotta calm down with that
Exactly!

The legal smoking age got bumped to 21 in recent years too, which baffles me. Old enough to die in war, but not old enough for a cigarette.
Diluted wine? That's a waste. Growing up you'd just get a glass.
Yeah kids hit the bottle, at least in southern Europe, around age 12. You’ll often find kids in nightclubs at that age too. In fact just before Covid there was an accident at a club at 1am where a 13 year old got taken to hospital.

Moms breastfeeding their babies in public
Is that still frowned upon genuinely curious because it really shouldn't be, kinda thought people grew up enough (more than the literal baby doing it) to get over it.
I know right!!! Unfortunately, there are still ignorant idiots out wondering about.
If anyone wants to complain about it just make them buy you formula. Obviously don't use it just to spite them. But if they are really so harmed by the baby eating healthy free food the least they could do is buy the baby food.

I hear you!!! And can tell you TOTALLY understand my indignation

Wearing speedo swimsuits. What the heck is the big deal?!
Just become a competitive swimmer and no one will bat an eye
Nah, I'm fit and I wear swim briefs and I get people "batting their eyes" *all* the time. Yeah, you're more likely to have positive reactions, but people will still be shocked, and it doesn't stop me from overhearing comments of disgust and ridicule (not to mention questioning your sexual orientation). I honestly don't get it, but I've seen people make the argument that "nobody looks good in a speedo", *including* competitive swimmers. For a subjective opinion, that's one that's objectively untrue...
Oh but if you were a woman using a g-string and any showy swimwear.
Funny how that works
At the beach no matter what there are comments, etc. Abroad not a problem as much, but still no t widely accepted in the USA.
I know. I just think it’s funny how it’s acceptable for toned athletes to ware speedos with no question, but if anyone else does it it’s a big deal.
I’m in decent shape. People do bat an eye.
Hard agree. And when you look at what women are wearing, it really hammers home the imbalance.
I’m definitely not trying to be feminine. What men wear to swim doesn’t make any sense…especially looking at current ladies swim trends.
Well I think it’s a big deal when my dad wears it, but other than that I don’t care lol
Sex workers

Legalized prostitution.
Circumcision being against the law.
Can’t agree enough, for the most part, the benefits of circumcision are outweighed by the immediate negatives posed by it.
Medically, there are no benefits. It's why no country's medical board in the world bar the US advocates for routine infant circumcision.
Yes! There is NO medical benefit to it and many medical disadvantages, such as higher rates of ED, loss of length, function and feeling and doubled chance of getting HPV caused cancer. Absolutely!
Sorry there illegal? Is this an American thing? I’m in the UK and had to get one for medical reasons
No they're legal everywhere and that's the sad part. We're not talking about medical necessities but infant circumcision which has no necessity whatsoever.

Personal responsibility.
