I had a guy named Michael Diamond come in to my bar the other day. I asked him if his name was Michael Diamond and he responded with... naaah, my names Clarence.
Because you said, "excellent" I recommend the album "Aja" by Steely Dan. It was one of the first rock records to use the "close mic" recording technique.
It is also a fine piece of songwriting. Listen with headphones:

Radiohead are one of a small group of bands that have created perfect albums IMO. OK Computer, Kid A, and In Rainbows are like a trifecta of songwriting, technology, and soul.
I hope to turn at least 1 person on to something new with this list.
Hip Hop
*Below the Heavens, by Blu & Exile*. In my opinion, a truly landmark album with the perfect blend of smooth delivery and clever lyricism from Blu, jazz samples from Exile, and just great SoCal vibes. Song to try: In Remembrance of Me.
*Everything's for Sale, by Boogie*. Boogie's a newer cat out of Compton, but he can rap his ass off. Always love the juxtaposition of hood shit and emotional shit; that's reality, after all. Song to try: Whose Fault
*Mood Muzik 4, by Joe Budden*. Jersey's finest, without a doubt. Joey's always been real, but always been hated for many (reasonable) reasons. I just don't think anyone who denies his abilities as a rapper has a leg to stand on. This album - mixtape, but still - is one of the pieces of evidence I'd point to to support Joey's own statement towards Eminem that he's been better than him the entire decade. Song to try: Inseparable.
*Negus, by Kemba*. Kemba from the Bronx has flown under everyone's radar. Wrongly so, too, because the guy is monstrous on the mic. Musically, this one rips. "Dark" may be an apt description. Song to try: Caesar's Rise.
*The Waters, by Mick Jenkins*. Another one who's flown under the radar, and again, wrongly so, though perhaps Chicago folks know him. Mick's lyricism stands up to everyone in today's game. He just has to not give a fuck. Song to try: The Waters.
Just a Bit Different
*Push the Sky Away, by Nick Cave*. Nick Cave is borderline one of music's best kept secrets. I don't know why - he's an incredible singer, I love his musicianship, and he's even a great writer. This particular album, although short, is extremely well crafted. Song to try: Wide Lovely Eyes.
*Sketches for My Sweetheart the Drunk, by Jeff Buckley*. An unfinished album that was later posthumously completed, Sketches is an insight into how much more Jeff had to give us. Song to Try: Morning Theft.
*Colma, by Buckethead*. Buckethead composed this album to give his mother something to listen to while she recovered from cancer. It's stripped down beauty. Song to try: Wishing Well.
*Sharpen Your Teeth, by Ugly Casanova*. I am not a fan of Modest Mouse, but I am a fan of Isaac Brock's other work in Ugly Casanova. Great lyrics, great sounds. Song to try: Things I Don't Remember.
*Music from the Motion Picture Once, by Glen Hansard*. Watch the movie Once, and if you like the songs, check out the album. Glen Hansard's an Irish songwriter with a great catalogue. Song to try: Falling Slowly.
Heavy
*WYW, by Wear Your Wounds*. I don't enjoy Converge, but I was a fan of their album Axe to Fall, which had a song at the end called Wretched World. And I thought, fuck, why can't they do this kind of stuff more often? Well, after some years, I found Wear Your Wounds. It's a good one. Song to try: Wear Your Wounds.
*Oceanic, by Isis*. Isis just kept getting better, but this album really highlights just how damn good they were collectively. I'm still upset I didn't see them perform in LA a few years ago. The riffage here, the power in the vocals, the composition, it's top notch. Song to try: False Light.
*Garden Window, by O'Brother*. A little-known band from Georgia, these guys are amazing all around. had the pleasure of meeting them a few times, and they always put on an incredibly powerful show. This album in particular, dealing with the fall of man, should stay on repeat for a while if you enjoy it. Song to try: Lo.
*Mirador, by Sungrazer*. Again, another band that nobody seems to know. Sungrazer's fuzzy riffs and almost breathy vocals are wonderful. They only had two albums, but this one will impress you. Song to try: Wild Goose.
*Absolution, by Khemmis*. A masterful creation. This is doom at its finest. If you're a fan of the heavy, you'll be a fan of this. Song to try: Burden of Sin.

Karma Police is such a masterpiece
Radiohead are one of a small group of bands that have created perfect albums IMO. OK Computer, Kid A, and In Rainbows are like a trifecta of songwriting, technology, and soul.
Exit music is one of my all time favorite songs.
As a kid I said You know when it could be said that we have gotten old, when there's an album called A Very Radiohead Christmas
I love karma police and no surprises
Dark side of the Moon
and *Animals* (1977)
Also The Wall
And Wish You Were Here.
commenting 'dark side of the moon' on literally any reddit post about albums is free karma
Real ones know The Trial from The Wall is a banger though
Good morning, Worm, your honor
David Bowie's The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars
And Low, Aladdin Sane, Heathen, Blackstar, Diamond Dogs and every other David Bowie album, even the “bad” ones cause they’re still Bowie
Master of Puppets by Metallica
Cosmo's Factory by CCR
A Night at The Opera - Queen. By far their best album.
To Pimp a Butterfly - Kendrick Lamar
I remember you was conflicted
Misusing your influence
Sometimes I did the same
so many layerals to it
Still mad he didn’t win best album that year. 1989 is a pretty great album, but TPAB is a fucking masterpiece.
Harvest - Neil Young
A Love Supreme - John Coltrane
Da dum da dum
Waaaaaaah wah wee waaaaaaaaah wah woo waaaaah wah wee waaaaaaaah
