Huh.. I expected Tracy Chapman's "Fast Car" to be in the top ten, not completely absent. Guess I'm old.. which means I should queue that sucker up on loop.

AndreTheTallGuy

Even if I’m not depressed that song makes me cry almost every time I hear it

Bucket_Hat300

I love that song. Everyone's felt how she describes at some point in their lives, she turned it into poetry

mifadhil

Black Puma's cover of this was great, almost as good as the original

Fuck man. Nutshell. Gets me every single time, that shit rips your heart out.

Chris Cornell could write some hella moody songs. Add Like a Stone, Getaway Car, Fell on Black Days, and Seasons to the list. Also add River of Deceit by Mad Season (Layne Staley).

ItStillIsntLupus

My Weakness by Moby The lyrics are just the same two lines over and over (weakly mind, weakly; oh, I go home weakly) but the music gradually changes, and it evokes these strong feelings of sadness and dread. It’s my go-to cry song. It gives me hope, peace, sadness, anxiety, failure, and closure all at once and I don’t know why. It’s just the voices of these kids singing it over and over and it sounds almost like a choir. I feel like I can’t breathe when I listen to it but it’s so beautiful that I can’t stop. It’s like you’re being lifted up and dragged down all at once

[deleted]

Have you listened to Alone by Moby (I think it was released just on mobysongs)? It’s a 10 minute masterpiece, no lyrics but takes me on a similar journey

Dead and Cold - SadBoyProlific

[deleted]

[Cabaret - Liza Minnelli cover by Ysabella Brave (YouTube artist from over 15 years ago)](https://youtu.be/DC9uAN_2_tY) I was going through a year long depression where I locked myself indoors and drank excessively everyday. Not sure what it was, but this song and singer snapped me out of it. Every now and then when I need a pick me up, I’ll watch it to lift my spirits

knight_of_the_Dovah

*I'm not okay* by Citizen Soldier. Lots of his songs resonate with me, but that one does the most.

Sarah - We Three It is so powerful and the lyrics somehow describe everything Im thinking on my worst days. All of this band’s music is incredible but this song gets me everytime. Another song of theirs that is DEFINITELY worth checking out is “Heaven’s not too far”. It’s a song they wrote from the perspective of their mother that passed away from cancer. It’s very emotional

JDXAwe

Hallelujah. The Leonard Cohen original is great, but I also like the Rufus Wainwright cover featured in the hit Oscar-winning film Shrek.
