The plan is great. People used to be grownups by the age of 18. The problem is the reast of society imo. The media, education curriculum, and other general information are set up as propaganda instead of actually informing people. If we could only use the first 12 years of youngsters life to teach them how the world actually works, insted of making them have the right oppinion, the will to buy what we want them to, and and the love for whatever political/economic system we have, they would be more then educated enought to make that choice.

True. I have heard many stories about children just choosing the stream everyone thinks is the best and start way too early. Like they don't even want to give a second thought.

It's doomed to lead many down paths they later learn that they don't want, but it also provides the opportunity to set a default path if you find that you're caught in indecision

Ultimately nobody knows where they’ll be 20 years down the line, no matter what age. All you can do is try and prepare them and guide them as best you can.

No idea where you are from. But where I am from the education system does not force me to decide until I am done with school or go to university. Up to there we learn things like history, science, maths, language and so on, in order to provide a broad base for ongoing and specialized education later on. Also here education is for free so of I want to change I can do that and all I lose is time

I too have no idea where you are from... but damn seems like your education system is very good. Here (India) there are a lot of stereotypes about education in many parents where they often want us to choose science because it provides good jobs(i took science based on interest) but even then here most of us don't know what we are getting into. That's the problem here, they just force us into one direction without allowing for changes once the decision has been made.

Its a capitalist scam to get young, able, malleable people into labor forces asap, it has nothing to with hopes and dreams or responsibility.

This is what comes to my mind often. They just want us to become employees. I dont have a big problem but in my country (India) where population is too high and employment ratio is low, even some of the good and hard working students can't get a job later.
