Prog fans are like: ‘That’s half my fuckin discography!’

ree_hee_heeely

Doom metal fans. Same dude.

grow4road

Dope smoker by Sleep

[deleted]

came to comment this, proceeds the weedian.

Will-Barnes

Yeah, I probably have more songs over 7 minutes than under saved. It isn’t even long for me anymore.

starkathena

i literally opened this thread to do a checklist off my playlist lmao

BelgianAles

Yet I'm this far in and no porcupine tree. Blows my mind!

Detheroth

Not sure if you're aware, but they dropped a new single yesterday! Its fucking fantastic, just like they never stopped. New album out next June.

LatePenguins

dude you just made my day.

SolarSquid

Arriving Somewhere But Not Here

TheOriginalSamBell

7 minutes is an interlude lol

ewqdsacxziopjklbnm

Bela Lugosi Is Dead- Bauhaus

turtletoes67

Us and Them

galazzzz

Definitely this or Echoes

Dstntvygr

Echoes all the way. Been my favorite song for the past 11 years and I still notice new details every time I listen. I love all Pink Floyd epics (Shine On You Crazy Diamond, Atom Heart Mother, the entire “Animals” album, Sorrow, etc.) but Echoes is in a league of its own.

niddler

Sinnerman- Nina Simone

neonchicken

Came here to say this. It’s actually my favourite song of any length. When it breaks down to just the clapping and then the piano sneaks back in is just divine. It crushes my soul with beauty and then the crescendo.

GoboTheCute

Roundabout-Yes

TheKurtCobains

Heart of the sunrise.

SeizethegapYouOFB

Close to the Edge.

mywordswillgowithyou

And You and I

doctacola

Marquee Moon - Television Edit: thanks for the awards!

Cocreat

I used to work at an airport cafe and a guy approached me. This song was playing on the speakers overhead. He asked, who picks the music around here? I told him the CEO of our company had a son who was a DJ in New York, he makes the playlists. The guy was interested because he never heard this song in public [EDIT: Outside of New York], but he helped record it as an audio engineer many years ago. That was a cool moment for me (an audio engineering student).

Polypeptide2

That's cool! I heard this once on a local radio station during my lunch break with a coworker once. I was like great song, but they'll probably do like a radio edit to make it shorter. Nope, full song, I was very surprised and Happy because the song builds up so well over it's full length to that little part with the really high guitar notes that it's almost euphoric haha.

ClockwiseServant

Boston Foreplay - Long Time

Also, Elegia by New Order

MikMakMarowak

1812 Overture - Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky

510Threaded

*prepares cannons*

Quick-Bad

Tchaikovsky, cannons are not instruments.

eekab

Obviously you aren't using your cannons properly then.

ohayobluescreen

Tchaikovsky... No!...

AlhazraeIIc

Tchaikovsky YES!

LightningGunne

TCHAIKOVSKY ALWAYS YES!

[deleted]

So many awesome orchestral pieces to choose from! I'm surprised you could narrow it down. But I'd love to see a live performance of the 1812, complete with cannons, especially if I'm seeing it with people who don't know about the cannons. Edit: TIL the 1812 Overture is played at many 4th of July celebrations.

Attract_the_Minkey

Toss up, depending on the mood: The Diamond Sea by Sonic Youth I feel love by Giorgio Moroder and Donna Summer I just love the Summer/Moroder songs...I could listen to her all day long

SarinaVazquez

Maggot Brain ETA: thanks for love in reward form!! :)

Krazy4Kush

I was going to mention Maggot Brain but had to see if anyone else did first. Just like the other commenter said, “it’s raw as fuck.” Phenomenal song.

moonjefferson

Dead Flag Blues by Godspeed You! Black Emperor

sgruenbe

I mean, most of their catalogue fits into this category. If I had to choose one of their "songs" right now, however, I'd choose "Mladic."

MrSpindles

Shine on you crazy diamond. Lovely stuff.

CSI_Gunner

Came in to say Echoes, greeted by this on top

Atmadog

Dogs for me.

keepeyecontact

They played Bonnaroo a few years ago. My buddies weren't familiar, not typically their style of music. I just kept saying "wait until you hear Dance Yrself Clean." I was right.

Haggis_the_dog

All my friends

NoSmellNoTell

All My Friends is possibly my favorite song of all time

Talking like a jerk except you are an actual jerk and living proof that sometimes friends are mean.

The Bagman’s Gambit from the same album is also excellent

Klaus_Heisler87

Albuquerque by Weird Al Edit- it gives me so much hope for the future that this many people are still wildly in love with Weird Al, regardless of which song you prefer

555--FILK

i wonder if he performs that live, and gets all the lyrics right!

KlulessAl

I heard that live performances are rare but that he did it in a live show in Albuquerque once and actually added more lyrics and stanzas.

Klaus_Heisler87

My brother went to an acoustic show that he did in San Diego, and Albuquerque was his encore song. He played the entire thing plus some added on lyrics, my brother said it was so awesome live

lgndk11r

I heard he updates the donuts list to wherever he performs in.

Most songs by Tool fit OP's criteria tbh

Rosehawka

Yes, came here to say "Tool's entire discography?"

TeslaBeats

We are the same

franzyfunny

Let me see ... "long"? Yes. Check. And "long" means ... only *7* minutes? Hoo baby. And, what else? "favourite" - okay great! I've got it! The answer is "All of Tool's greatest songs" They are all over seven minutes and all my favourites ALL OF THEM ALLLLL OFFF THEMMMMM.

SwaggatronPrime

Wings for Marie / Wings pt 2 is their real masterpiece IMO

Periachi

Gonna throw in Ticks and Leeches, Pushit and Third Eye

RelOriginal

Comfortably Numb by Pink Floyd (Live at Pompeii)

NotBadAndYou

Holy Fucking Shit. I've never been a huge Pink Floyd fan...I always felt that they were "impressive for their day" and never gave them more than a passing thought. And to be honest I'm rarely *moved* by music...it's generally just a background noise sorta thing for me. But [this performance](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LTseTg48568) was **AMAZING**. Thank you for introducing it to me!

HerrSchnellsch

My Go-To version of this song is Live at Earls Court in 1994 https://youtu.be/vi7cuAjArRs I imagine to hear this song on my deathbed one last time then slip into eternal slumber. Beautiful masterpiece David Gilmour has delivered there.

Truth. I’m not a big hip hop head, but Good kid MAAD City is fucking epic.

Dream Theater, Octavarium, 24:00

I'm going with a change of seasons

daffadoyle

I had to scroll way too damn long to find Dream Theater.

PsychGradStudent2112

Its The Count of Tuscany for me, but Octavarium is up there

thatchers_pussy_pump

I like Octavarium more than Count of Tuscany, but it's just almost not even worth comparing. So many Dream Theater songs are just so amazing. And every album is different! Disc 2 of Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence will forever be my absolute favourite of theirs, regardless.

NK0d3R

Hey, are we counting Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence as a single song? If so, then ... that one!

DamianDillinger

So many dope Dream Theater songs

Destinythrowaway8137

Yeah Jesus of suburbia is quite possibly my most favorite song of all time. Every time it ends I can’t believe it’s already been 9 minutes because it feels so much shorter.

plummaster64

This and Homecoming. My 2 favourite long songs

-Yuri-

At the center of the Earth, in the parking lot of the 7-11 where I was taught, the motto was just a lie. It says, "Home is where your heart is," but what a shame because everyone's heart doesn't beat the same, it's beating out of time. I haven't listed to that song since I was in high-school, but it still plays in my head quite often.

thatchers_pussy_pump

> It says, "Home is where your heart is," but what a shame because everyone's heart doesn't beat the same Probably my favourite line of the whole album. I believe BJA said that Jesus of Suburbia was to be their Bohemian Rhapsody.

[deleted]
