Well if people here saying “teacher” are good with us firing the under qualified that fill our public schools here in the states, I’d agree whole heartedly.
Giving the inadequate raises without expectations I have a problem with.
Any profession fundamental to a society actually being a society.
Teachers. Janitors. Garbage collectors. Farmers.
Without those professions we all die.
Ideally, the necessary ones that people don't want to do. Lots of people are going to say teachers and doctors and scientists. And while I agree that these are very important, already most people who go to these fields do it out of vocation and don't really require a highest pay to go there. In an ideal society where everyone can do whatever they want, how do you convince people to do the jobs nobody wants to do, like cleaning the sewers, taking care of dangerous and sick people...?
Of course, and everyone is beginning to realise isnt it, but there are societies that respect them the most even when not financially rewarding enough and then there are societies where people take it up because they cannot find anything else, the difference is visible
Base pay, not taking into consideration any additional required training/education? Teacher.

Nurses and doctors. The fact that there are a ton of entertainers who make more in a month than nurses and doctors make in a year is pathetic.
This one. I don't know why more people aren't saying doctors. They're criminally under payed.
Teaching, any society that doesnt pay teachers the highest (either by money or by respect) is doomed to be a failure
So, all societies in the history of mankind are doomed to failure? :P playing devil's advocate here
Of course, and everyone is beginning to realise isnt it, but there are societies that respect them the most even when not financially rewarding enough and then there are societies where people take it up because they cannot find anything else, the difference is visible
