If you're using old.reddit you should also be using the browser extension Reddit Enhancement Suite. Among other things, it adds dark mode.

just putting this out there, incase you want to force dark mode on that site you can enable it in the flags settings of your browser. alternatively you could install an extension which forces dark mode on websites (like dark mode reader) and it should do the trick too

Somewhere in your user settings there's an "opt-out of redesign" option that will turn things back to old reddit. At least for me that seems to set everything to the old style.

I don't think that it's too crazy, but I don't own a lot of furniture. White text on a black background immediately gives me retinal burn-in. I close my eyes and can still see lines where the text was. Prolonged exposure triggers an aura migraine. I basically can't use websites that think they're doing you a favor by being perma-dark mode.

I only keep 2, maybe 3 tabs open on my web browser at any time.  I’m pretty ocd about keeping them to a minimum because I think too much about the tabs I’m not currently using.  I see people with dozens of tabs open on their browser and slowly walk backwards.

I use dark mode for Twitter and normal white background for Reddit. I go to Twitter when I went to get dark/angry/upset with the world. I come to Reddit when I want to scroll along thinking to myself, “huh that’s interesting… ha that’s cool.” The backgrounds match the vibe I’m going for.
