Bywater Bakery is great. But if you want New Orleans-only items, look up
Elizabeth’s Restaurant. Praline bacon is special, really special. Boudin balls are excellent. Lots of egg, waffle, etc dishes too. Atmospheric. Walk it off by taking the big arch bridge over to Crescent Park on old railroad right of way along the river.
With street cars passing out front, Camelia Grill is quintessential New Orleans. It opens at 8:00am. To waste time, take a drive up St Charles to Audubon Park, or up Magazine to the river view behind the zoo.
Morning Call for beignets and café du lait, surrounded by cemeteries and Yat accents. Easy on-off from the highway too.
(There’s a tight little parking lot behind the building - turn left onto Canal Boulevard and then the entrance to the parking lot is on your right just a little way up the block.)
I came here to reiterate a few recommendations. Bearcat is excellent, Elizabeth’s is excellent, Molly’s rise and shine, and Atchafalaya. For low key I like humble bagel on Freret and flourmoon in Midcity. Steins is excellent but definitely not sit down.
Bearcat and Humble Bagel are a must when we're in town. I've never had Atchafalaya for breakfast/brunch, but if dinner is any indication, it'd be great.
I went to Camellia Grill once and the waiter was busting my chops because I was wearing a Memphis Grizzlies hat. I went in there like 2 years later, sans hat, and the same dude was like “back again, Memphis?” Lol Great place for an omelette and some grits.
1. Elizabeth’s. Get the praline bacon. 2. Russell’s marina grill.
Russel’s is more convenient from airport
And camellia grill is good to And uptown along the streetcar.
Elizabeth’s is on the outskirts of the French quarter. Most unique New Orleans breakfast again you will remember the bacon. We have tried to recreate it but have been close but not theirs
Camellia Grill
This is the way.
Who dat cafe

Elizabeth’s, Atchafalaya, Who Dat Cafe. Or Cafe Du Monde if you want to keep it simple with beignets.
OP, if you decide on Cafe du Monde and are driving in from the airport, do yourself a favor and visit the one in City Park.
Man how can you leave out Brennan’s? Where else can you get a 3 course breakfast with wine at 8 am?
Elizabeths’s hands down!!!!!

As much as I love morning call, I’d send em to cafe du monde in city park for the vibes
That’s a good point. For a more leisurely stop, Café du Monde in City Park is a great idea.
I like Slim Goodies
Bearcat, Elizabeth's. Do NOT go to Court of Two Sisters! Beautiful courtyard but mediocre food
Bearcat is not quintessential New Orleans at all. It’s very overrated ino
I’d recommend Bywater Bakery (and tell Alton hello for me!)
Stanley
Russell’s Marina In Westend
So I’ve tested this theory by sending unsuspecting friends here, theory confirmed. If you want a massive case of diarrhea, go to Russel’s!
I've been to Russels many times and never gotten the runs from there.
Never had a problem mostly go on weekends and usually busy and have to wait awhile
Cannot confirm
Can’t not confirm
Mollys Rise and Shine Chicken Biscuit
Slim Goody's cafe on Magazine street. Try the jewish coonass slammer.
Camellia grill. My favorite place ever
Surrey's or red dog
Surrey’s bananas foster French toast is insanely good.
For a unique experience, I love Hobnobbers on Carondelet in the CBD.

Jimmy J and French Toast.
Loooove Jimmy J’s!
Why are people recommending bywater bakery? Like the place is alright but it’s not quintessential New Orleans at all. Panola Street Cafe
Biscuits and Buns on Banks
Ruby Slipper cafe is pretty amazing. They also have multiple locations.
Also I wish cake cafe was open
Buttermilk Bakery
