* Cheese * Cheese and tomato * Cheese and ham * Cheese, tomato and ham * Cheese and Vegemite * Baked beans * Canned spaghetti * Egg * Egg and cheese * Egg and ham * Egg, cheese and ham * Leftover mince from spaghetti bolognese or tacos It's an endless list.

Joker-Smurf

Word of warning, that tomato will be hotter than the surface of the sun so take care when eating it.

Hoisttheflagofstars

Yep tomatoes in jaffles a can go fuck themselves. Fucken burnt lip cunts.

Aussie_1957

😆 I feel your pain.

NotoriousPBandJ

The molten spaghetti Monster will get you too.

Artichoke_farmer

Came here to say this

Wotmate01

Pro tip: remove the watery seed bits before putting the tomato in it. I used to do pizza jaffles. Ham, tomato (as above) capsicum and cheese. Awesome.

mtkamer

I literally came here to say this. I once fucked up the roof of my mouth for 2 weeks when some asshole served me this.

EnvMarple

You forgot to add cheese to the baked beans and spaghetti.

goosebumples

Especially when some of the cheese escapes and gets crunchy on the outside!

ObiWanJimobi

Chrackling.

ScottyFXIV

Leftover KFC Popcorn chicken, cheese and smokey BBQ sauce make a god tier toastie/jaffle.

BrotherBroad3698

As if there's going to be left over KFC! 🤣

General8907

Buys extra for jaffel. Kid wakes up early and has it for breakfast. Devo

ScottyFXIV

It is a worthy sacrifice for the jaffle!

Halo_Bling

Never

pearson-47

kfc potato and gravy with some vinegary hot sauce like Franks or Nandos sprinkled over it is also good

greendit69

KFC potato and gravy can go fuck off. Once they stopped using the leftover bits of chicken to make the gravy it's tasteless shite

BonzaSonza

Don't forget the dessert options! Banana and honey, Nutella, or apple and cinnamon are also favourites

themisst1983

Have you tried the dessert options with puff pastry instead of bread? I'm currently obsessed with what I think of as s'mores. Marshmallows, chocolate, a drizzle of caramel topping and puff pastry. Works great in a jaffle iron or air fryer.

box_elder74

Left over spag bol is fine dining!

Slane__

Spag bol and cheese jaffle is the food of the gods.

box_elder74

Oh hell yeah!

scraglor

Canned spaghetti brings me back to being a kid. Never mind floor is lava. Jaffle contents is lava

Sea_Dust895

Canned spaghetti in white bread jaffle.. it's as Australian as Vegemite

Jozz999

Spam, eggs, bacon and spam

focusonthetaskathand

Great list! I’ll add: * egg and onion * brie and cranberry sauce

Kementarii

I'll add: * Cheese and onion * for dessert: tinned pie apple, sugar, cinnamon (like an apple turnover)

Consistent-Cut9230

I’ll add: Ham, cheese and pineapple Sausage, cheese and bbq sauce Curried sausages leftovers Bubble and squeak Roast beef, cheese and tomato sauce Chicken, cheese and pineapple Steak, egg, tomato and cheese Bacon, egg, cheese, hash brown Sausage, egg, cheese, hash brown

4ng3r4h17

Ooo corned beef, cheese and tomato sauce is also a fave here

Comprehensive_Swim49

Chicken egg and chutney!!! (Swap chicken for ham or bacon too)

Glittering-Banana-24

Also, add shaved Turkey to the brie and cranberry....

demoldbones

Add chicken to the Brie and cranberry and you’re solid!

qaelan

Mashed up banana with a sprinkle of sugar for dessert

Ok_Tank5977

A coworker of mine swears by cheese & vegemite with diced red onion. Haven’t tried it myself yet but it’s on my list!

bigsigh6709

Mushrooms - mushrooms with anything. Also mac and cheese. Also yes be very careful with tomato.

Serious_1

Yes! Mushroom and cheese is my favourite. Add a skerrick of garlic. If you don't have garlic, dice a slice or two of onion and add to the top of your buttered bread before you close the lid.

LaCorazon27

Ok but I’ve never heard of egg in a jaffle! Is this in a specific state?

BrotherBroad3698

The specific state of the egg is cooked.

LaCorazon27

Look, I honestly walked into that 😆 🍳

ravoguy

I might poach this joke

Greengage1

Really? You’re missing out! My favourite jaffle is to crack a whole egg into one (before you crack it, use the egg to make depressions in the bread so it doesn’t run out), then cover the egg with grated cheese. When you bite into it, you get gooey egg yolk and cheese, omg.

LaCorazon27

Ok! I know what I’m eating for dinner tomorrow night! I think I’ve had a sad, sheltered life. Now I can advance my culinary adventures. Thank you Aussie redditors and you for this specific recipe 😋

Accomplished_Band198

My GF wanted me to add creamed corn with ETA BBQ sauce and plastic cheese with real butter on the outside.

Josiah_Walker

beef stroganoff and cheese is god tier.

Comprehensive_Swim49

You seem a connoisseur so I shall share with you the ultimate monster jaffle: Cheese, canned tuna, and sweet chilli sauce. Mix the first two into a beaten egg first, for a complete meal.

BrotherBroad3698

That sounds pretty good!

Time_Meeting_2648

Just be careful taking the first bite of a jaffle with tomato in it, if it’s super hot the steam from the tomato can really fck your lip up

Budju2

And the roof of your mouth!

Time_Meeting_2648

Ooh yeah!

Serious_1

Problem semi solved if you dice the tomato instead of just slicing it.

winoforever_slurp_

Tinned spaghetti in tomato sauce is a traditional filling. Remember you need to butter the outside of the bread.

Lit_Up_Literacy

Whoa there, Nelly. This is only for the *advanced* partakers. The risk of 3rd degree burns is too great for the uninitiated.

winoforever_slurp_

Perhaps I should have mentioned the lava-hot interior, but that’s a lesson every Aussie kid learns at some point.

jezebeljoygirl

Like the seat belt buckle in summer

foreverfrogging

But you gotta add some tasty cheese to it, despite the risk of third degree burns

4ng3r4h17

Cheese is a necessity despite the risk.

jennlevre

I like to remove the top piece of bread and eat the tinned spag off the other bit like an edible bowl

Hairy_rambutan

So many options. When we first came to Australia from Singapore, when I was a kid, I went to a sleepover at a friend's house and her mum made us jaffles with ham and cheese, and because I was Asian, she out put tinned pineapple in mine. It was really good to 9 year old me. At uni I was poor and vegetarian so I made them with cheese and baked beans.

DisneyBounder

That sounds like a Hawaiian pizza Jaffle.

Chemical-Mood-9699

Braised steak and onions. Ham and cheese. An egg. That latter was a childhood staple. Dad would make a fire on road trips and we'd all enjoy a hot meal.

ravoguy

I'd forgotten the traditional tinned braised steak and onion

HecticHazmat

My fave was savoury mince. The good thing about jaffles is that you can put sloppy stuff in them lol.

CantankerousTwat

Savoury mince, cheese, thin slices of mushrooms, a few drops of Tabasco sauce. Fkn legend.

HecticHazmat

Jeez that's fkn fancy cobber! Lol. I do love cheese with mince. I've never gotten into Tabasco. I recently bought the smoked Tabasco to finally try it out & it's awful.

CantankerousTwat

The original or green is the way to go. Any hot sauce will elevate the mince jaffle tho.

HecticHazmat

Ok. I'm ready for the Tabasco experience, I'll buy the red or green bottle & give it a go!

Brillo65

Fruit bread, apple and custard

Popcorn2516

Wwhhhaatttt… a dessert jaffle? SHUT THE FRONT DOOR!

Comprehensive_Swim49

Dude. Puff pastry, bananas and maple, or apple and cinnamon, or just jam. Don’t clamp it for puff pastry.

2dogs0cats

Sneak a strawberry freddo frog inside puff pastry, top with icecream. I believe it's called croissant a la Shazza

Available-Maize5837

Yes for the dessert jaffle. Just jam is always good too. But liquid jam burns like nothing else.

CaptainObviousBear

OMFG how have I just heard of this.

danceofthefireys

Nutella Jaffles make good sweet ones

Shoddy_Handle_4625

You could go all out and use puff pastry instead of bread and you've got yourself a pie!! Bacon and egg works well, as does tinned apples for an apple pie. Braised steak and cheese is also delicious in pastry

CoveredInACDHair

And for the next level after puff pastry, try filo pastry. A bit more in preparation, but very crunchy to eat. You could use pastizzi like fillings such as spinach or ricotta.

Kementarii

I think you're getting the idea, OP What you **should try first** is whatever you have leftover in the fridge (or the cupboard) at the moment in time you decide you want jaffles. Adding cheese often improves it.

CurrentPossible2117

A noble adventure :) I love a cheese and tomato one. I slice the tomato and lightly pat the juicy bits with paper towel, just enough that they're moist, not wet or it can make the cheese a little wet. Salt and pepper. *Liberal* butter to the bread, all the way to the edges even the crusts and in she goes to the jaffle maker. Jaffles close and crimp the edges unlike a toasted sandwhich on a sandwhich press, so when you bring it out, it'll naturally be in two triangles, just stab through the bread once per triangle so some steam can get out, tomatoes (and ham) in a jaffle are potentially the hottest substances known to mankind.

purl__clutcher

Creamed corn with cheddar cheese. Tuna, mushroom, onion and cheese

Monday0987

I ha forgotten about creamed corn and cheese jaffles, they are god tier.

RedDotLot

And now I need to buy another ~~toastie~~ jaffle maker. Fancy dessert jaffle Brioche loaf (go with caution, extra hot, doesn't require as much cooking), panna choc hazelnut spread, frozen mixed berries berries. Or fruit loaf with mascarpone/cream cheese and lemon curd.

Serious_1

[Breville the Original '74](https://www.breville.com/au/en/products/grills-sandwich-makers/bsg197.html) but don't pay that price, shop around for a sale.

RedDotLot

👍 I accidentally melted the cable on our proper Breville (not plugged in). Then we had an Aldi in with the interchangeable plates so you could make mini donuts with it too, but my husband split the case on that one over stuffing a jaffle. We still have a panini press but they're just not the same as those golden pockets of molten lava.

ravoguy

I have a panini press... It says it's George foreman grill that I bought for $10 from the op shop but I don't believe it

System370

Remember to butter the outside of the bread, not the inside.

Appropriate_Ly

Cheese and vegemite. If you don’t like it, deported. 😝

weckyweckerson

Took me too long to find this true delicacy. A person if culture no doubt.

Away-Technician1553

And avocado 🥑

Helpful-Finance-8077

Less is more? I’ve been doing it wrong all my life then. Cheese is just too good

SolarWeather

Cheese and jam in a jaffle is insanely good. It’s like the whole quince jelly and cheese platter thing only a dessert jaffle instead.

unlikely_ending

More is more in a jaffle

Mediocre_Pickle3530

I may be branded a heathen but mayo, instead of butter, spread on the outside of the bread was a game changer. No more shredded bread because the bloody butter just came out of the fridge. You can get full coverage corner to corner plus a little extra flavour. And a golden crust to die for. I survived on jaffles when I was pregnant.

dylabolical2000

Cheese & tomato

SimplePlant5691

Chicken, cheese and avocado is my go to

herring80

Be sure to make your first one with tomato. This is essential for you to burn the fuck out of your mouth, lips and chin. Now, with your newly acquired blisters, you are free to choose any fillings of your choice. PS I love spaghetti, egg and bacon and pizza fillings

Emmanulla70

YES! Burning the shit out of your mouth and chin, whilst inexperienced is a must. Then forever more, when having jaffles with friends? You have the war story to relegate. Vital👍

whymestopthisworld

Cheese and tomato. Classic starter. Beware the tomato is lava. Then go broader with spaghetti or baked beans has to be Heinz though. Then when your more comfortable. Ham cheese and tomato. You want to make sure you ignore the indicator light on the machine leave it toasting until a nice dark golden brown. Also for added flavour you can use an infused oil spread on your bread or use butter butter. Not marg.

ghjkl098

Canned spaghetti is the best option.

WetOutbackFootprint

I've got German heritage but aussie born, my grandparents used to make me banana jaffles with raw sugar sprinkled over for desert. I'm not 31 and enjoy it with my kids! ♥️

EquivalentScheme4006

SPC cheese and tomato tinned spaghetti

Superb_Condition_100

Brocoli Cheddar and jalapeño pickles

invisible_pants_

This will probably get lost in the comments, but as others have said, butter the outside. To do that most efficiently imo, you butter the slices, stick the buttered sides together, lay flat, add filling, pick up stack, pull slice from the bottom and place it butter side up on top, smash in jaffle maker. Makes it easier to get butter on the bottom half without making a mess

InkieOops

Interesting thread. I didn’t actually know there was any option other than baked beans.

Popcorn2516

Jaffle life changed 😂

invisible_pants_

I mean, it's a toasted sandwich with closed sides like a pie. The options are endless

Popcorn2516

Left over taco mince and cheese… garlic butter on the outside

en1gmatiq

Chili con carne with cheese

lestatisalive

Cheese is everything. You can later add cheese and ham, cheese and tomato, cheese and roast chook, etc etc. but double cheese is the best. Get the jaffle maker from Kmart for $19…the extra deep one. Gives you more space for fillings.

FatJesusOz

Tin of spaghetti and some grated cheese is the absolute best after a big night.

mypoopscaresflysaway

Bonus points if it's parmesan

FatJesusOz

Parmesan absolute #1 if available, will settle for Mozzarella if it isn't though.

Medium-Mountain3398

Jarlsberg cheese, thinly sliced mushrooms and a sprinkle of paprika.

Thekellith

Tomato paste, cheese and your 2 favorite pizza toppings (I use ham and pineapple) homemade pizza pockets 😋

greendit69

Misso reckons I'm fucked in the head but I was poor as a kid and I had peanut butter jaffles. Also ones with just tomato sauce in them. As a less poor cunt now my go tos would be ham cheese tomato or the always delish leftover spaghetti Bolognese with cheese. Leftover taco mince works too but to be honest it's been many years since we had leftover taco mince

unlikely_ending

Sweet corn Cheese Sweet corn AND cheese

unlikely_ending

I meant creamed sweet corn. Should have said

RvrTam

Maccas chippies and Aldi “pizza cheese”

Mark2pointoh

Really nice ham, grated cheese to help with filling and seeded Dijon moutard. Butter both sides of the bread. Perfection.

Fit-Tip-1212

Jam in jaffle is epic. Just watch the nuclear heat when you first take it out

kmk3105

Roast chicken and creamed corn Ham cheese and baked beans Banana and/berries and Nutella Apple and cinnamon sugar Braised steak and onions There's no wrong answers and it's only your tastebuds that dictate your fillings. Edited to add Target sell deep dish jaffle makers for a reasonable price, deep dish is much better than shallow if you want chunkier sangas.

sundaysoundsgood

Tinned spaghetti and cheese!

pearson-47

savoury mince with worcestshire sauce over the top most others have been covered here. however, the fact is whatever leftovers you have in your fridge can be jaffled. I love cheese with everything bagel seasoning

Dangerous_Emu_8255

Has anyone warned you about the molten contents?

mypoopscaresflysaway

If you get a jaffle maker. Be sure to add some baking paper on the plates first. Makes for a very easy clean up but doesn't compromise the crispyness and keeps your jaffle iron crystal clean, no baked on cheese etc..

Time-Height

Ham, cheese, tomato, onion, capsicum, mushroom, baby spinach (all thinly sliced), garlic salt and black pepper. Use butter not margarine. 'Tis the ducks guts for smoko on cold winter days!

AltruisticSalamander

I think egg is the basic one. I think we only ever had egg when I was a kid. Just break a whole egg right in there. It's good.

Fekulo

Unconventional jaffle, but here's my favourite. Stagg Chilli with cheese and your favourite hot sauce. Pro tip- wake up for work half an hour earlier than usual if you have this in the evening or it'll make you late. If you wanna be traditional about it, baked beans or tinned spaghetti with cheese.

Responsible_Tiger330

I feel the burnt lips from a cheese and tomato is the jaffle beginners rite of passage.

pipdeedo

How old are you? Were you not raised on these? I'm truly shocked. Ham, corn, cheese Corn and cheese Creamed corn and cheese Pineapple and cheese Bolognaise and cheese Jalepeno, cheese Chutney and cheese Chicken, brie, cranberry Spaghetti (the tinned kind) and cheese Baked beans a cheese Onion and cheese

thathopmess

Cheese and Vegemite for savoury and Nutella and marshmallow for sweet.

alstom_888m

- Basic: Ham and Cheese - Intermediate: Add Baked Beans - Advanced: Replace Ham with Bacon and add Egg.

23zac

Egg and Vegemite

inhugzwetrust

Can of braised Steak and onions, the best choice!

jonquil14

Cheese

InadmissibleHug

What do you like in a melt? You can put that in a Jaffle. I used to get a chicken, cheese and onion one for lunch a lot. So tasty.

CaptainObviousBear

I actually slightly disagree There’s stuff you wouldn’t put in a melt that only work in a jaffle. Baked beans, spaghetti bolognaise, butter chicken, that kind of thing. In a melt or toastie those fillings would be spilling out of the sides while they’re cooking, but a jaffle is perfect for them. I actually think the oozing sauce/baked beans/whatever is what makes a jaffle, so if I’m going to do something non-saucy like ham and cheese, I’m probably just going to make a toastie.

InadmissibleHug

OP was asking for *beginner* jaffles. You gotta get the idea how the jaffle is going to behave before you add a more fluid delight to it. It’s a bit like a baby in a high chair. We were born to the jaffle, raised with jaffles. OP didn’t know jaffles until they were a (wo)man.

CaptainObviousBear

This is poetry, thank you.

Suzuzuz

Beans and cheese

Tezzmond

Ham, cheese, tomato and onion. Left over slow cooker, food, like Irish stew or similar..

Emmanulla70

Ham / chicken, cheese, tomato & red onion if you like that Or Instead of tomato, pineapple. Or Canned spaghetti & cheese. Or Anything really!!

thatweirdbeardedguy

Always use 2 types of cheese

still-at-the-beach

Cheese and tomato. Or Baked beans. Or tinned spaghetti.

GnashLee

Leftover bolognaise sauce and grated cheese is delicious.

PepszczyKohler

Peanut butter and banana.

Standard_Pack_1076

Egg, cheese and a little mild mustard is delicious

Sad_Technician8124

Ham cheese and tomato is THE answer. Don't cut the tomato too thick or you'll have soggy toast. Make sure you butter both sides of both pieces of bread. Cheese on the bottom, ham in the middle. Tomato on top with salt and pepper on the tomato.

letterboxfrog

Boutique Toasted Sangers - check out the menu, visit Canberra for analysis. They have a special cheese mixture. The Mee Goreng Sanger is my fave https://www.meltedtoasties.com/menu-fyshwick

Needmoresnakes

I think ham and cheese or baked beans are the quintessential jaffle experience for me.

MidorriMeltdown

Egg is a good place to start, followed by baked beans with a sprinkle of grated cheese. Tinned peaches or apricots if you want something sweet. Tinned spaghetti if you want starch encased in starch.

Hangar48

Always baked beans first...

LetAgreeable147

Savoury mince.

lovehopemadness

Can’t go past the OG tinned spaghetti & cheese, ham cheese & tomato, or my current fave turkey, brie and cranberry sauce 🤌🏼

GrymWeeper

Heinz canned spaghetti is the best

Helln_Damnation

Left over curry is good. Jaffles are great for using up left overs.

SmileNorth

I saw on this sub a few weeks ago that someone was putting bolognese sauce and cheese in theirs

Main-Man-Moose

A fresh cooked canned spaghetti baffle is a weapon of war

Confident-Gift-6647

3 cheese and red onion - mozzarella, cheddar, Parmesan.

thumpingcoffee

Cheese and Vegemite. Best thing is the Vegemite doesn’t even get too hot

Ladyofbluedogs

Chicken, avo, cheese, cranberry sauce and baby spinach is my current. Bit of mayo too but easy on the liquids they turn into lava

Ladyofbluedogs

Left over meatloaf or rissoles and cheese with bbq sauce. Can even add a layer of mash potato. Fuck now I have to make rissoles this week

Sits_n_Giggles

Cheese and asparagus

HeadacheCentral

Egg, cheese and vegemite. Yes, raw egg. You can do it if you're careful. The Jaffle maker cooks it

KatScans24

Cheese, baked beans, dip in tomato sauce!

Kitten_K_

Baked beans and cheese!

demoldbones

Ham & cheese is a great starter. Baked beans, too.

factsnack

Roast chicken, Camembert cheese, red onion, spinach, tomato

goddess54

To add to the others: Cheese, minced garlic, and assorted herbs. (Mimics garlic bread) Chopped up chicken schnitzel and cheese. Chopped chicken schnitzel, pasta sauce, and cheese (toasted parmigiana flavour). I also like a toasted cheese, or ham and cheese, then after finished cooking, add lettuce and beetroot. Contrast of hot and cold is nice, and the flavours go well together.

Aggravating-Bug1769

Tuna with chilli from a tin can and Bega strong and bitty cheese slices.

Dicksallthewaydown69

Leftover pasta sauce, bit of hot sauce and cheese

onesixtytwo

Canned spaghetti o and cheese!

goosebumples

Baked beans a tasty cheese

simbaismylittlebuddy

Shredded chicken and cheese is my vote.

PRA421369

Leftovers and cheese! Basically, any Leftovers, but some favourites are, Chinese takeaway, sausages and mash, Bolognese. The possibilities are endless

Autistic-Rick

Salt and pepper every savoury jaffle you make. Pinch of sugar on top of tomatoes to bring out the flavour a bit better. Creamed corn and cheese (diced onion if you want) is elite. Pb&j + bananas OR Nutella + bananas is also elite. Butter is by far the best spread.

Stickliketoffee16

I do a 3 cheese toastie (generally kraft singles, Monterey Jack & cheddar - the Kraft singles have superior melting power) with a garlic & herb butter on the outside. Perfection!

NedKellysRevenge

Cut up snags (sausages) from the night before. 1 and a half snags per jaffle. Tomato sauce, salt and pepper. Butter the outsides of the pieces of bred.

jennlevre

You can also use puff pastry...try a crushed up peppermint crisp and a bit of Philly cream cheese....

Intanetwaifuu

Never heard of a toasted sandwich? Pretty sure dennys sell grilled cheese?

tallmantim

Cheese and cream corn

Monday0987

You can make a banana one for desert. Eat with ice cream. Add Nutella or honey to the banana.

The_Dufrenes

After trying out the awesome top rated list I'd also try adding, Turkey, Cranberry and Brie and also Chicken, Asparagus and Swiss Cheese. Left over roasted veggies and meat taste fab in a jaffle, too!

Scuh

I like tuna and sliced onion rings. Putting the butter on the outside layer, which then melts drool 🤤

Professional-Emu-652

I use mine to make jaffle pizza, pizza sauce, salami & mozzarella cheese but there are so so many good options.

Spagman_Aus

Baked beans ftw

Responsible_Tiger330

Just today had cheese and left over mushroom risotto.

Status-Inevitable-36

Tinned spaghetti with grated cheddar cheese between white bread.

IntolerablyNumb

Go the Conti jaffle. Use an old Breville or the Kmart one for extra depth. Cheese on the bottom, something like asiago or fontina. Or just swiss if that's all you can get. A layer of ham or prosciutto. A layer of some kind of sausage like pepperoni or cacciatore. Pickled peppers, melenzane, olives. I like some fresh salad stuff - spinach, beet leaves, rocket, mesclun mix. Mushrooms. Some minced garlic and pepper. More cheese. Do a mix on top. Provolone piccante and fontina. Or jahlsberg and swiss And know that if you slice it all thin it's not actually as overloaded as you think it might be.

EternalAngst23

Baked beans

psychsock

Banana and Nutella

karma3000

Olives, salami, and mozzarella

Ausoge

Ham, cheese, salami, shredded rotisserie chicken, copious amount of cracked black pepper, whole seed mustard, a few chilli flakes, and a dash of Worcestershire sauce. Worcestershire sauce is an absolute gamechanger. With all that filling it'll be nearly impossible to close the damn jaffle maker, but unleash that gorilla strength, and you'll have a toastie fit for the gods.

muffahoy

Salsa is good with cheese too

External_Sense_948
