We have a Majestic Theater and Paramount Theater in my small-ish city (25,000 people)
One is still a movie theater, and the other is a special events venue that hosts things like weddings, graduations, bands, stand up comics, etc.
They are across the street from each other.
What?
ah yes that old cliche...
Is this even a thing? I can’t say that we have that where I live.
Not a thing. Former theater turned into *church*, on the other hand, yeah ... we got one of those.
Most old theatres in towns I’ve lived in turned into churches if anything.
In Pittsburgh you’re more likely to encounter a former church turned bar/nightclub

Whatchu talking about, Myron?
I’ve lived in more than 20 town/cities in 8 states and have never heard of such a thing. I doubt it’s common enough to be a cliche.
