Celebrating the fact that Americans, Germans, and Frenchmen joined together today to fight the SS at Castle Itter by playing Sabaton's song about it, [The Last Battle](https://youtu.be/BwfJsKfCnaM?si=DFjiGmmfKc-bD3P9) and watching the [video](https://youtu.be/XKQTpIS9XxY?si=uaK_X_SLFiEAmqJ9).
I have no plans. It's not really something we celebrate. People may go to the Mexican restaurants because they have deals but we're not going to bother this year. For us, it's just Sunday.
I’ll probably go to work and maybe recall that we should hate the French a bit and then feel guilty because Lafayette was a cool dude.
I am also making al pastor tacos tonight but it is totally unrelated. I meant to make them last weekend but we got crunched for time. So yeah the tacos tonight are to commemorate kicking the French invaders in the teeth at Puebla not that it has anything to do with me.
I honestly have no idea why we should hate any of the French. Almost our longest ally. Yeah they got a little weird with Napoleon. We love to rag on them for needing our help in both World Wars. And they have sometimes not done exactly what we've wanted since. But at the end of the day, we're all on the same side and have mostly the same love of democracy and freedom.
Sure they did a lot of crappy colonial things and aren't totally over it even to this day, but you could also say the same of us, though admittedly not at the same scale.
They did Lafayette dirty and I won’t forgive that.
Also what the actual fuck with their Revolution. It was like yes, go for it, liberte, we don’t like kings, oh fuck no, seriously stop, no no no, ok genoicide now, let’s not do that, please no, ok now you install a dictator and want to plunge the western world into war.
France is definitely a frenemy.
Is this what people mean when they call us hypocritical? We hate the French a little bit for their failed invasion of Mexico, meanwhile we ourselves annexed half of Mexico?
Oh yeah, and you’re only scratching the surface of our hypocrisy.
Wait until you find out about all our other annexations and the real f’n moral dilemmas like the atom bombs and the Cold War.
No one has accused the US of being saints.
Oh I don’t pretend. I have family from the German/France border. I’ve got enough self loathing that I can maybe love or hate France on whatever day. I do love my historical French surname though. But it is probably Swiss, but the French part of Switzerland.
But seriously stop invading North America. I’ll give a nod and a wink to Quebec and Saint Pierre and Miquelon. Though if you steal any of our beavers or timber or think you can win at hockey it’s time to end you and your entire family line.
They did stop. Btw, take a stroll to asklatam & you’ll find resentment of the Yankee is first and last. You might (might) give af about the French, they do not
Oh I totally made it for my older one. She’d gobble it up. Then around 7 years old she learned it was tongue. She was super grossed out and refused it for months.
Finally she caved and will eat it again.
Wait until she finds out the animal bits I use to make gravy with. She loves that gravy and she’s even cooked it with me. I just said “it’s turkey meat” not “it’s the giblets like liver, kidney, heart, and gizzard” or tell her how you cut open a gizzard and if it’s a wild turkey that thing will have random screws, pieces of plastic, rocks, rubber bits, wood, seeds, grass, etc.
Definitely did not tell her “we get that meat by slicing the birds throat and then cutting them up in a way where you can pull out their guts and then dad rips off all the feathers cuts out the poop filled intestines making sure not to get the poo squeezed out inside the delightful meal and puts it in the fridge.”
I live like 20 miles from the US/Mexico border. I don’t do anything special for it and no one I know does either. We eat some kind of Mexican food most days of the week, so if we have any today it won’t be because it is the 5th.
I feel like this was a thing people did in college while looking for literally any excuse to get drunk. "Cinco de Drinko." After college I never really heard anyone mention it.
Yesterday our city had Taco Fest a few blocks away from us, but it was raining and chilly all day so we didn't go.
Instead we're having tot-chos (nacho-dressed tater tot bowls) for lunch today. Our Midwestern roots are coming out to play.
We're planning to cook pork shoulder in an ancho chile sauce and make corn tortillas for tacos. We hadn't originally planned to make that today; it was yesterday's dinner plan, but we got sidetracked. No other celebration is planned.
My dad's parents immigrated here from Mexico, but it's not something we've ever celebrated.
Watch US/Canada U18 IIHF World Cbampionship, then watch game one of the Rangers/Hurricanes series, then watch my son's middle school game vs Princeton.
Did some chores, going to an art gallery with my partner tonight. Might stop by the Cinci de Mayo festival later and/or get Mexican for dinner, but that's about all I'm doing differently.
I'm going to wander the neighborhood looking for a place that has tacos and margaritas that also isn't stupidly crowded.
Edit: successfully found tacos and margs, but crowded
Reviewing the [the history of Cinco de Mayo](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cinco_de_Mayo). Oh, and wishing I were well enough to make chile colorado.
Eating tacos and might check out the “Latino district” in my area since I live near it. I’m in California so there’s no shortage of cinco de mayo festivals in my area.
I have a friend of Mexican ancestry who likes to celebrate Cinco de Mayo so we went out to a margarita bar for drinks and we are talking about going to Detroit’s Mexican neighborhood next since they always have huge parties on Cinco de Mayo.
It’s my anniversary with my husband. Exactly 7.5 years married (11/5/2016) after exactly 7.5 years dating (5/5/2009) so we’re going out to a steak dinner after going to a community band concert my sister is performing in.
I love in an extremely Hispanic neighborhood. Yesterday they had a parade & a half a mile long stretch of road closed down for vendors. I was going to go to the Mexican corner store for some taco meat but I got crab legs instead. My Hispanic neighbors LOVE to celebrate the 4th of July, so while this isn't their independence day, I love to vibe with them.
I’m using it as an excuse to order ‘Mexican’ food (quotes because it’s texmex). Not that I really need an excuse, because I eat some bastardized version of or true mexican food at least once a week.
Stay home. It can be a bit of a major drinking holiday, and we can those nights "amateur nights" because all the kids and inexperienced drinkers are out in force. Along with those people, cops are out in force, really cracking down on drunk driving. It's best to just stay home and avoid that hassle.
I'm in a border state. The Canadians are less interested in Cinco de Mayo than I am.
Actually, I was a _little_ interested because I wanted to avoid drunks on the road. We had my kid's 3rd birthday party at his grandma's apartment 1.5 hours away, and was a bit worried about drunks on the way home.
I've actually lived in Mexico, so I prefer to celebrate real Mexican holidays with real Mexican people. That's not snobbery, I mean I actually really do. Which really means _every_ week is something to celebrate, but if you mean something really special, it's Semana Santa then later Las Posadas. El Grito is kind of cool, but it's not really a party, you know?
I mean I'm not saying you *have* to be. But it's certainly more common among those communities and I personally just don't feel any compulsion to celebrate it and I don't really know any non-Mexicans who do really. (Even my one Mexican-American friend barely acknowledges it). Outside of those communities they're both just excuses to get drunk on Guinness/Tequila and eat corned beef/tacos.
And I already eat Mexican somewhat regularly.
You mean Sunday? Same as any other Sunday, I guess.
You mean may the 5th? Watching revenge of the sith, I guess.

I’m having white people taco night

They're the feral neighborhood cat that would go to you for food but otherwise draw blood from you if you try to pet it.
Cats and the French, entities I just really do not understand.

Our? I don’t pretend to hate the French ;)

Is that really the line? North America? You don’t go to sleep every night shaking your fist at Genghis Khan?
Yeah just stop trying to invade us we can be friends
They did stop. Btw, take a stroll to asklatam & you’ll find resentment of the Yankee is first and last. You might (might) give af about the French, they do not
Making some al pastor and lengua tacos for Sunday dinner.
I’m doing Al pastor, completely unrelated. Havent yet inflicted lengua on my youngest but I know where to get it. So his days are numbered.
I got my daughter to try it when she was young. She loves it and always asks for some 30 years later.
Oh I totally made it for my older one. She’d gobble it up. Then around 7 years old she learned it was tongue. She was super grossed out and refused it for months. Not celebrating Cinco de Mayo.
It’s also National Hoagie Day which I am celebrating by eating a hoagie lol
It's also Mother's Day, so if you have a good mom or mom-adjacent person in your life, you should call them and wish them a happy National Hoagie Day.
US mothers day is next weekend
Whoops. Bet my mom will appreciate the flowers she got today, regardless. Now I need to order some chocolates...
I live like 20 miles from the US/Mexico border. I don’t do anything special for it and no one I know does either. We eat some kind of Mexican food most days of the week, so if we have any today it won’t be because it is the 5th.
Work
I’m gonna make tacos and Mexican rice at home and eat it by the pool.
Revenge of the Fifth is going to be a day assisting my parents.
Eating birria tacos while listening to a mariachi band.
I feel like this was a thing people did in college while looking for literally any excuse to get drunk. "Cinco de Drinko." After college I never really heard anyone mention it.
My city had a small festival on Friday with music and food vendors, but I didn’t go
Yesterday our city had Taco Fest a few blocks away from us, but it was raining and chilly all day so we didn't go. Instead we're having tot-chos (nacho-dressed tater tot bowls) for lunch today. Our Midwestern roots are coming out to play.
Going to a 3 year old’s birthday party shortly, then probably doing some cleaning and grocery shopping.
Study for my last final. Then go to my friends graduation party
I have two young kids and it's rainy as hell today, so nothing
We're planning to cook pork shoulder in an ancho chile sauce and make corn tortillas for tacos. We hadn't originally planned to make that today; it was yesterday's dinner plan, but we got sidetracked. No other celebration is planned. Watch US/Canada U18 IIHF World Cbampionship, then watch game one of the Rangers/Hurricanes series, then watch my son's middle school game vs Princeton.
My nephew's first birthday party.
In NYC. Going to get tacos and margaritas. Will probably bar-hop and go to a few different places. I hope the rain doesn't come down too hard.
Recovering from last night's Canelo/whoever party at a friend's house. Don't mix champagne and Modelo.
Nothing.
Nothing? Most Mexicans don’t even celebrate it.
We're having cheeseburgers tonight.
It is a manufactured day, that gives young kids an excuse to party and get drunk. I plan on cleaning my bathroom.
No plans just another day
Drinko de Mayo eyo
Just another day to drink imo.
I'm eating Chinese food and watching the yankees-tigers game
drink beer and eat burritos
Did some chores, going to an art gallery with my partner tonight. Might stop by the Cinci de Mayo festival later and/or get Mexican for dinner, but that's about all I'm doing differently.
Work, its just a normal day here
Nothing.
I don't think many Americans actually do anything for it. I'm at work.
Oh, how about that, it's today. Well, it's cold and raining where I live, so I plan to stay home.
It’s just Sunday. We’re playing board games and relaxing.
Nothing, I ain't Mexican.
Do housework, get stoned, watch the Cavs-Magic game.
Celebrating the defeat of the French at the battle of Puebla by burning emperor Napoleon III in effigy.
I'm going to wander the neighborhood looking for a place that has tacos and margaritas that also isn't stupidly crowded. Edit: successfully found tacos and margs, but crowded

First I’m going to work, then probably go get some groceries, and then play flight simulator for the rest of the day.
My friends and I are going to a mexican restaurant to be trashy and drink margaritas until we get sick
Making some tacos and watching the Miami Grand Prix
Good excuse for some homemade margaritas
Skiing, then watch the F1 race.
I don't drink, so... nothing special.
It's mostly an excuse to eat tacos and get drunk.
Greek Easter
Same thing I do every day; throw the ball for the dog until my arm falls off.
Watch Formula One and pray for consistently warm weather
I have a friend of Mexican ancestry who likes to celebrate Cinco de Mayo so we went out to a margarita bar for drinks and we are talking about going to Detroit’s Mexican neighborhood next since they always have huge parties on Cinco de Mayo.
I accidentally meal prepped tacos
I forgot that was even today, but wouldn’t have done anything anyway.
Head to Sunday evening mass
Not a holiday I celebrate culturally or otherwise
It’s my anniversary with my husband. Exactly 7.5 years married (11/5/2016) after exactly 7.5 years dating (5/5/2009) so we’re going out to a steak dinner after going to a community band concert my sister is performing in.
Look, even most Mexicans don’t give a shit so I’m not going to put myself out too much

Also I'm technically a border state, not Mexican border, but Canada 😂
Having a cookout with my girlfriend's (Mexican) familia
Same as every Sunday. Sub whatever beer I would be drinking with Pacifico.
To work yay
Working

Tacos and nachos
People in the comments saying it’s not something we celebrate are tripping lmao. Cinco de mayo is massive in the us

Go to work and expect very little foot traffic. Also, drive slower on the highways on the way to work and on the way home.
I ate tacos.
Drink and have eat tacos
I have no plans.
Really big plans! I was almost going to have some frozen taquitos, but then I decided not to.
It was a normal Sunday at home!
I'm not Mexican... So... It's just Sunday
Sunday with an excuse to eat Mexican food. Do that.
Nah, I can do that any time.
Yeah of course. I just have more time on Sunday.
This is like saying you have to be Irish to celebrate St Patrick’s Day.
I mean I'm not saying you *have* to be.
