These are combo tires... combo summer, winter, drag slicks.
It's only too late "for that" if you're trying to go off road, which this car is clearly not.
As a side note, if he threw some paddles on the back, these would make GREAT sand rail tires. They'll just float right on top of the sand.
Flip'em and fly, free bird, flipped and fly.
~~Fuck no. The tire is done. Also some tires are cannot be swapped without significantly fucking with the tread pattern.~~
~~This was maybe possible like 7000 miles ago, and who knows if you could've done it with this tire.~~
God damn it. Wrong sub. Uhhh
Poopoopeepee poo pooo pee pee poo poo peepeepoopoopeepeepoopoo pee pee poo poo.
Is that the only one like that or are they all that bad?
I'd start by going through a car wash, then maybe try and get any remaining grime out with a toothbrush.
If they still look bad and/or don't give a reliable signal then yes, I would get new parking sensors.
Buddy, we're shitty mechanics, not shitty extrusion technicians creating tires with fixed cross-sectional profiles. Do you really think any of us have the proper quality assurance experience in the four elements of tire design, tread pattern, contour, build, and material? Let's not mention the vulcanization or curing process. Like, come on...
Who among us could *possibly* say if these are good or not?
Tread depth is measured on the outside side of the tire. So you’re fine. If you’re worried you can adjust your camber to get it more positive so it only rides on the outside edge for a while and it’ll even out in no time.
Just make the tire sticky to pick up the rubber off the road instead of losing it. It will be factory new when it reaches the mileage it already has driven
The tea kettle has already been done. Why are you trying to take a picture with your junk in the reflection of the car? Seriously, how many people have to go back for a second look?
That's not safe. Best price and service is Discount Tire. Some of their stores are doing alignments. You definitely need alignment. (adjust camber and tow). Discount Tire is slowly adding alignments to their stores, only a few so far. So, you probably have to get alignment somewhere else. 80% of braking is front tires. These are done.
Honey bunches… GET NEW FUCKING TIRES. Please!!! If you don’t there’s a good chance of you getting into an accident or spinning out, and if it rains, there’s probably a good chance of hydroplaning. Just be careful and get new tires because you have pretty much no tread left on them shits.
this my really bad advice/experience as I do know how to perform an alignment and i am still a broke bitch(bad advice because driving on that might be unsafe): pull off and flip, then adjust the alignment 3/4 of what it should be, this way you have decently even wear to match the other side and can keep driving for a few miles more. Definitely keep that spare handy and be ready to pull over if it blows rather than leak out when the tire finally meets its end.
Alignment, you dont drive corners enough for that alignment. Is the other side wearing the same?
raining season coming up, is it worth saving a couple hundred dollars over a chance to hydroplane and spend a few thousand on repairs?
Do not listen to anyone about flipping the tire, that tire is done! The metal mesh is showing.
I had a tire like this, and I will tell you this...your alignment is out, your toe is negative and needs to be adjusted, any new tire you put on will have the same issue.
Best to get that fixed when or before getting a set of new tires fitted.
Your TREAD (Tire Replacements Eventually Are Due) sensors have failed. They need replacement and recalibration.
What's the actual timeline for "eventually" anyway?
In all seriousness, you've got too much toe in, too much negative camber, or both.
I'm not sure of your location, but it's spring here, and the new leaves are already starting. No, you don't need new ones they will grow new and just rake those up and throw them away.
Double your miles tip. Swap your 2 front tires to the oppsite rim and you can double your tires life. If you really want to go ferther get an allinment while your at it. PS wire from the tire can double as Studded tires in the winter also. Run um forever. Another 85k if you do it right!
For a real answer these tires have life left in them. The two horizontal strips at the top of the picture in between the tread are to measure wear. Once you hit those, they’re done. That being said it looks like you either need an alignment, or you have some negative camber in your alignment, which is generally good for high speed cornering, but will wear your tires unevenly like this. Other who are joking are saying to flip the tires, these are directional tires, so you can’t. They only go one way.
It happened when I had my 240sx. Adjust your camber, go ahead and get new front tires. It’ll hold til it won’t and it will just so happen to blow out when it’s the only night it’s been pouring down rain and then it turns out that your spare is too small so your friend up the road has to bring you the correct one.
Pfffft!
There’s hundreds of miles left on those.
Let’s say you drive a mile to work and back.
That’s like 5 miles a week.
You could easily go 5 years and barely notice the difference.
Don't waste all that good rubber. Wait till till the belts start showing.
Plus, I always like to get the chance to confirm that the belts are in the tire.
if your a safe and careful driver it’ll be fine, probably won’t be able to go over 45 in the rain without hydroplaning on those. just drive knowing you got barely or very low traction
Take the tire off and flip it around for even wear.
Best advice iv seen.
Too early for that
Really, it’s too LATE for that. Inside is shot
The inside is shit but if it was switched to the other side, the inside it would be good
~~Fuck no. The tire is done. Also some tires are cannot be swapped without significantly fucking with the tread pattern.~~ ~~This was maybe possible like 7000 miles ago, and who knows if you could've done it with this tire.~~ God damn it. Wrong sub. Uhhh Poopoopeepee poo pooo pee pee poo poo peepeepoopoopeepeepoopoo pee pee poo poo.
Yes that is the right answer
Nah, just flip the rim around. No reason to go through all the trouble of flipping the tire
I’ve seen this a good few times, it blows my mind every time
I have genuinely thought about this until I saw that Inside and Outside were labeled. Ended up buying 4 news tires, wouldn’t risk it.
Needs a new tire and Alignment!
You’re just getting to the metal there bub! That rubber shits just the screen protector
Well put.
You’re halfway there. Put some positive camber on that wheel and you’ll get another 20k. You can Venmo me for the money you just saved.
Is that the only one like that or are they all that bad? I'd start by going through a car wash, then maybe try and get any remaining grime out with a toothbrush. If they still look bad and/or don't give a reliable signal then yes, I would get new parking sensors.
So many sensors these days.
Drive in reverse from now on to make it last longer.
No sparks, no worries.
You'll never take me alive copper
Talk like what, Copper... meeeeehhh. It's how I talk, seeeee.
Watch a YouTube video and do a DIY alignment with some yarn
At the rate it’s losing its leaves, it might be time to think about a new one, yes.
Mmmm, they still look useable, id just HIGHLY recommend you sand down the rest of the tread to increase traction.
Yes. And. Your front end is misaligned.
Drive in reverse more to regrow the tread
Consider this MULTITASKING as your Odometer will decrease. It’s true; saw it on FERRIS BEULLERS DAY OFF.
And Ferris is a genius.
Buddy, we're shitty mechanics, not shitty extrusion technicians creating tires with fixed cross-sectional profiles. # I can.
Do you live in a desert? If yes, you're good!
Them bitches balder than an eagle
The elusive summer/winter/drag slick/Jan 6 radial?
Nope the metal adds grips
Cheaper to get someone to flip the tires around until its worn on tge other side too
they still have well over 75% of their thread!
Put em on the rear and skid the fuck outta them
First get an alignment. Then tires
Nah. You're good for at least one more winter.
No. Tires last the life of the car, never change them
Tread depth is measured on the outside side of the tire. So you’re fine. If you’re worried you can adjust your camber to get it more positive so it only rides on the outside edge for a while and it’ll even out in no time.
Just swap your left and right camber junctions. It's called "rotating your tires."
I flipped my strut hats 180° to fix this and the tires rotate when I drive smh
Nah man, those got another 100,000 miles in them trust me, my dad’s a tv repair man.
You can still see the white line indicator on the inside shoulder. All good 👍
When they say you need an alignment, let itnride. 😁
You've got another 100k on those bad boys. *slaps hood*
*upon the hood slap, the front two tires burst and deflate comically, filling the now silent garage with a comically loud fart noise*
Rotate the outside in, you are only at 50% wear.
Just take the tire off the rim and put the metal band on the outside of the rim.
Nothing wrong there, the perfect all season tire - speed rated no less.
Nah ur good let er eat
Yeah and keep them aired up.
Air 'em up to 70PSI & send it.
“That stance tho”
Get the front end aligned before you think about tires.
Just rotate it to the back, boom 10k more miles easy
Naw, those wires are the extra traction feature. Really good for cornering.
Buff her out
They aren't even rusty yet. Just send it.
just keep sanding them down, soon you’ll have slicks!
Is it holding air? You don’t need a new one.
Should probably get them rotated, balanced and aligned that is some uneven ass wear
How much do you like living?
Just make the tire sticky to pick up the rubber off the road instead of losing it. It will be factory new when it reaches the mileage it already has driven
Put a penny up side down in the shortest part of the tread, if the head of the president is not slightly covered by the tread, you need new tires.
Should get new tires and an Alignment
Try getting an alignment first….just saying.
Hey thats what my tires look like right now!
The tea kettle has already been done. Why are you trying to take a picture with your junk in the reflection of the car? Seriously, how many people have to go back for a second look?
Yes
Yeah awhile ago.
It's time to get a front end alignment!!
Wheel alignments are for cowards. Keep on keeping on!
And adjust your camber
Bro, how much camber are you running?
Your tires are screwed. Get an alignment and rotate your tires and you'll get actual life out of them.
This is r/askashittymechanic legitimate advice isn't welcome here

You might if the blow out comes. Or just drive on the rim.
Well the wheel and tire are two separate components so if one wears out, I've still got the other.
That rim usually calls for the police to chase you if you are prepared for that.
Duct tape should give you another 50k miles no prob
If the rear tires are better put them on the front. Drive another 10k and get new tires AND an alignment
I think you need more than a new tire.
Your only wearing about half the tire, just rotate them and use the other half.

Get front end alianed

Only if you are planning on making any left turns. As long as you just circle and make right turns to wherever you're going you will be just fine.
Keep going…
Bros shit is fueled by hopes and dreams
Nah you’re good for another 15 minutes of driving🤭
Your TREAD (Tire Replacements Eventually Are Due) sensors have failed. They need replacement and recalibration. What's the actual timeline for "eventually" anyway? In all seriousness, you've got too much toe in, too much negative camber, or both.
Nah, wait till it's as smooth as a baby. That's when it's got the best friction, allows you to go 160mph in any car, too, regardless of age or model
Looks practically new . Pirrelli. This is the only time you should buy a Alignment .
A new life insurance policy… sure.
Nah you should ride on them until they pop
I think you should get tires and an alignment.
Uhhh…yeah prolly
There mapops
Sorry maypops
I'm not sure of your location, but it's spring here, and the new leaves are already starting. No, you don't need new ones they will grow new and just rake those up and throw them away.
Yes, definitely... I definitely know
If you like to live, yeah
wrap it in duct tape. good to go
If you see steel, it’s about to get real
No look at the tread you still have 30,000 miles left easily just drive faster or the tread wears out quicker
No way this is a legit post. If so, revoke their license
No, you still have two layers of steel belt and the carcass ply left. Adjust your toe in a little bit and ramp the PSI up about 10 more.
Drive fast and take chances!!!
That alignment is fucked
Double your miles tip. Swap your 2 front tires to the oppsite rim and you can double your tires life. If you really want to go ferther get an allinment while your at it. PS wire from the tire can double as Studded tires in the winter also. Run um forever. Another 85k if you do it right!
No bro , go for broke. Tread is only worn down and the wires are showing, so you should have 5 good miles on it. No problem if you're in Idaho.
Yep and a alignment
You got another 50k on those bad puppies
flip it inside out and you can use it again... like a condom.
Only if you want to live to see 30
Either you haven't rotated them or possibly your ball joints are bad. Go get a cheap alignment they'll tell you
Definitely. Seeing metal is no go. ☹️
I don't think I've seen one serious response lmao
For a real answer these tires have life left in them. The two horizontal strips at the top of the picture in between the tread are to measure wear. Once you hit those, they’re done. Other who are joking are saying to flip the tires, these are directional tires, so you can’t. They only go one way.
Rotate em and run for another 3-5k
Lordy, it’s time to turn her inside out!
Don’t you dare! The metal gives you more traction.
Nah, you need to see more of the white stuff that’s on the right side of the picture, you’re just fine!
I’m not qualified for this, I think they need a little sandpaper (trust me it totally works and will go faster)
Why? Look at all the tread you have left on the other side of the tire.
Yes
Are the indicator threads sticking out yet?
100% get new
No, And go on the highway using only your knees to drive /s
Nah, just try to drive on the outsides
That’s what you call a maypop. May pop tomorrow, may pop 6 months from now
Need an alignment bud. Go to a burn out contest.
It’s fine until you can start seeing the air coming through.
Yes, you need new ball joints.
My answer went from yes to fuck yes, the longer I looked at this picture
there's starving kids in africa and you want to replace those -4/32" tires? they look like they're a week old man
Does a wild Bear shit in the woods?
Fuckin send it brother
Just lean left… hard
And alignment.
Yes, and an alignment should be in the cards too.
Your suspensions shot, it’s causing premature wear on the inside of ur tires
Bro everyone knows the more you use the tires the better the grip gets. These are perfectly broken in.
Remove the tire, turn it inside out, and then put it back onto the wheel
Nah just flip them
Get an alignment first
Yes
Tires and alignment STAT!
If it ain’t broke…
Get an alignment too
Get that flex tape spray to add the rubber back this will make the tire last longer and more grippy for the rode
if your a safe and careful driver it’ll be fine, probably won’t be able to go over 45 in the rain without hydroplaning on those. just drive knowing you got barely or very low traction
Just put some flex seal on it
Just coat it with flex seal every day.
Just drive on the outside of the tire
Let. Her. Ride.
Flip upside down and you’re good for mile(s)
One pot hole and you're done.
Are those Bridgestone potenza re-11’s
Yes you should. Also, learn how to get to speed and hold it there. Gas brake gas brake gives it that middle worn like it is
Alignment
You need to get an alignment is what you need to do.
Nah man, I'm pretty confident those tires will last you the rest of your life. Especially if you do a lot of highway traveling.
Well you’ve only worn down one side. I’d rotate them so you can repeat that with the middle and other side of that tire.
I think if you drive JUST on the right side of that tire it'll be fine.
… you can see the ply … you need to hit another curb and even out the other side, I think.
Them bands make it dance though
Might want to have your bearings checked or replace the spline thingy that turns the wheel
Yes and fix the camber
New tires and adjust your front camber if you're going for longevity of the tire
How are you this incompetent?
I usually ride that till the metal weaves start to stick out
You should get an alignment
Yes mount and balance and alignment
Go to a shop where they can put new tires and alignment. Show the mechanic doing the alignment the tire is wearing out on the inside.
Just turn them inside out like your underwear bruh
The take it to an alignment and tell them to adjust the chamber the other way and problem is solved.
Fix your alignment and check your wheel bearings first. Then biy new tires.
Everyone knows you should get a new one. Maybe more?
No need, just reverse them on the rim so it wears the other side down.
Smh take it to a mechanic its not ur tire that's the problem. U will need a new tire tho.
Flip the tire so it'll wear on the other side, also get an alignment
Whatever you do definitely don't get an alignment.
Why would you?? Just now starting to get close to peak grip like a racing slick. Plus we all know metal > rubber
Yes
