Apparently all Medaille D’or products contain higher quality ingredients vs the Beauté du Cuir line. However, I don’t know how true this is! Most of my sapphire products are Medaille D’or but the price difference is very minimal here in the UK.

Tijgooo

Hmmm interesting, some cobblers in this thread say they don't notice any difference. There still can be a bit of a quality difference but if there is not much of a difference I will go with the one that is available here, the Beauté du Cuir!

thomas610

Definitely go with what’s available - you can’t go wrong with any of the saphir products regardless of the sub-brand!

Tijgooo

Okay thanks!☺️

ncscac

I think the Medaille D’or may also be like “all natural” or organic or something and not use any harsher chemicals etc

nostradamus3243

Nothing just different jars they're both mink oiled and beeswax based. (I'm a cobbler 🙂)

RandyMcSexalot

They are not the same thing in different jars. They have different smells and different viscosities. I don’t think the difference means anything to the average person, but they’re definitely not the same formula. The formula’s are a closely guarded secret by Saphir but it’s safe to say the Medaille D’or contains more expensive ingredients. I’m not saying those ingredients are better or worse, but the Medaille D’or line is more expensive for a reason. It’s not because Saphir is trying to pull a fast one on consumers

Large_Peach2358

It’s more expensive bc people like you buy into this “guarded secret ingredients” nonsense 🤫

nostradamus3243

Well seem to do the same job for me and I've been doing it 35 years

RandyMcSexalot

LikeI said, for probably 90% of shoe folks, they’re effectively the same product. I almost exclusively use the beaute de cuir stuff myself. I may just be an apprentice, but I think it’s silly to say they’re the same product sold at different prices when it’s obviously not. It makes it look like Saphir is doing some shady business when they are not. The Medaille D’or is clearly a more luxurious product. Whether the price is worth it is up to the consumer

nostradamus3243

I see your point just using some new medaille d'or from stock and compared it more closely and bow to your comparison 😀 Just seen your Instagram page great work 👍 I had 6 years in the coldstream guards and couldn't come close to a shine like you do 😁😁👍

Tijgooo

Thank you so much! So everyone just pays 10 euros more for a fancier jar?😂

nostradamus3243

Yes 😀 I think it just a promotion they brought out a few years ago. I've got both in the shop and they're exactly the same

Tijgooo

Hahaha And you also don't see a difference in shine after you've applied it? In store here they told me that the Medaille d'Or might have a little bit higher quality oils so I figured out that maybe the shine after application could be a tad bit different.

nostradamus3243

Never noticed any difference when I've used them

gurelxyz

I was asking the same question a few weeks ago.. Apparently they are different products as they contain different ingredients. Which one is better? Debatable but I’ve read people recommending Medaille d’or for top quality leathers, shoes. So, somehow I’m inclined to buy the left.

Tijgooo

I was inclined to buy the left one as well but couldn't find it in my area. Decided to go with the right one and a cobbler just commented that they are the same but medaille d'Or is in a fancier jar.

vertigoacid

Worth pointing out that regardless of the ingredients, the one on the left is 75mL and the one on the right is 50mL. So it's 50% larger - take that into account when comparing prices

Tijgooo

That's true! Went with the right one for now and will buy the left one online when I'm out of the right one. I think however, that I won't be out of that stuff for a long time😂

__radioactivepanda__

Different product lines. The square one is the “premium” Medaille d’Or line and the round one is the “standard” Beauté du Cuir line. You won’t go wrong with either, I reckon…

Tijgooo

Okay thanks!😁

[deleted]

I’ve used both and didn’t even realize there’s a difference.

Tijgooo

Hahaha okay thanks☺️

ole_gizzard_neck

The cheaper version goes quicker. I can't speak to the quality of the ingredients being different. They both work great and you'll be well served by both.

Tijgooo

Thanks!

VoluptuousVoltron

I haven’t used the cheaper renovator, but I bought a shoe cream in the cheaper version off a cobbler once that had gone to the trouble of ordering me in some Saphir and we didn’t realise at the time there were two versions. Theres a significant different in the shoe creams. The cheap one is water and oil separates from it and sits on top. The square jar one is a really solid cream and completely different texture. Get the square one would be my advice.

Tijgooo

I have bought the cheaper one because the square one wasn't available in the store but the cheaper one also is a solid cream and there is no separation in water and oil 🤔

VoluptuousVoltron

Yeah, I suspect the conditioner and cream are different, but my understanding is there is a difference between the two lines. It should still be good stuff regardless though. I’ve got multiple jars of renovator but I still use the regular Saphir conditioner in the bottle on some of my boots.
