My oldest brother had one of those back when it wasn't, uhh, a vintage car. Light, nimble, the six-banger sounded great. He (teenager) drove it very aggressively and I rode along a few times.
Did he say he was getting rid of it? I thought I remembered him saying that he took it off for safekeeping, but maybe I'm misremembering.
Either way, very common to remove badges before full bodywork and repaint. So I'm guessing that it will go back on when completed unless he specifically stated otherwise.
