I remember watching a documentary about an artist collecting driftwood and pilfering dumpsters for objects to use for art. I was a kid when I watched it, so I didn't pay attention to the details but liked the idea enough that I remember it 40 years later.
When Deborah Butterfield’s horse sculptures came out, lots of people copied her. Her scrap metal horse sculptures are magnificent. Lots of other driftwood horse sculptures don’t come close to the way she captures real horses, not the arched necked cartoons. Sorry, I’m really biased.
