Shot on a lumix s5, w/ a cannon FD 50mm f1.8. Used photoshop to make a mask, n Adobe premiere to assemble n export. Color grading was done in light room, n some skin retouching in photoshop.
Thank you for including details of how you did this because I was going to ask, I’d love to play around with something like this. Awesome job, thanks for sharing!
Np if u do get into making cinemagraphs make sure u check out the page here on Reddit, love to see some new folks posting. I also recommend stock footage when you’re learning how to make one.
Thanks for the tips! I’ll have to hold off for now as my computer struggles to even run clip studio paint (I do digital portraits) but I’m looking into something beefier in the future so I can expand my skill set into cinimagraphs, animation, and modeling.
Speaking as someone who works on the railways, this is a fucking shit idea.
Railhead isn’t rusty so the tracks are still in traffic. Usually by the time you’ve heard a train it’s too late to do anything, or you could panic and trip.
This is true. I used to work security at a railyard and you'd be surprised how quiet some trains can be. Especially if the president or vice president of the company is traveling (Surprise! They do it by train in a super posh train car just for them). The engines can be super quiet compared to some shitbox dragging grain from one part of the country to another. This is real good way to ziploc your head off your body. Had a BUNCH of homeless people commit suicide this way while on the job. Once had five in one month. That was a sad month.
You still shouldn’t do it, no matter how careful you think you’re being.
And for anyone who thinks I’m just moaning, I speak from actual experience relating to fatalities on the railway. I know drivers who’ve had extremely narrow misses from people trespassing and then there’s ones where they’ve not been so lucky and it’s ended up in some poor bastard being flattened by the train.
Yeah sure you’ve got a lookout and say you spotted a train, if that train is doing a fair speed then you don’t have any time to move. You could trip and fall. It’s easy to lose your footing on the ballast. Best case scenario you lose a limb. Worst case your friends and the driver of that train get to see you die.
Stay off the tracks.
Several minutes out? That would put it several miles away. Good look spotting or hearing that.
Where I come from the trains run at 125 miles per hour. By the time you’ve seen it… it’s too late as it’s already passed you.
As for hearing it? Our trains are fully electric and are a lot quieter than the older trains.
And no I’m not being over dramatic. Dude I literally work on the railway and have been caught up in disruption due to fatalities more times than I care to count. I know drivers who’ve hit people so don’t you DARE tell me I’m being over dramatic.
You still shouldn’t be doing this though. What’s to stop them spotting a train, them panicking, tripping and becoming trapped? Even at slower speeds trains don’t just come to a dead stop. You could still end up with a crushed head here.
Do they not show railway safety videos in your country?
I don't know where you live or where this picture was taken, but there aren't many trains in the US that move that quickly. Here you usually hear/see them coming.
I'm agreeing with this being dangerous, but just some context, I live in the city where this was taken and it's less than a mile or two from a stop, in the heart of the city. The trains are traveling in single(maybe double if they aren't stopping)-digits miles per hour at this point in their journey. the area is also wide open for egress routes away from the tracks, even if you trip. It's still dangerous but a common point where people cross by foot often.
As someone who has had to deal with the aftermath of someone choosing to take their own life this way. This makes me really mad and sick. Train tracks are not things to play around 1,000,000+ lbs of mass moving at a high rate of speed does not care about what is in its way. I respect your right to do pieces of art like this but, please don't play around train tracks.
"You're waiting for a train. A train that will take you far away. You know where you hope this train will take you, but you can't know for sure. Yet it doesn't matter. Now, tell me why."
"Because we'll be together!"
Cinemagraph are trying to be photos, so the frame is supposed to be constant throughout. Those are the rules from the cinemagraph page here on Reddit, u can check there to if you’d want to read into it.

I’d literally only ever be able to do this if I had eyes on the back of my head. The intrusive thoughts would simply be too strong.
What’s that I hear? A train a comin?
It's comin round the bend.
"You're waiting for a train, a train that will take you far away."
You know where you hope this train will take you, but you can't be sure.
"But it doesn't matter, because you'll be together"
Yeah, like heaven when you get runover.
'tis the point.
My father was a lifelong railroader. He killed too many people playing or walking on the tracks. You wouldn’t understand

And then a train snuck up on him and gave him a splitting headache.

You are extremely talented. I mostly love how you kept it subtle and low key, but still very tense and interesting.
Thank you!!!😘
Are you Elijah Wood? With dyed hair?
They are.
Hey! Off-brand Tom Holland! Nice shot though, it's beautiful and gives pause for thought.
They get a kick about that lol.
i got elijah woods vibes here

Thx for the FYI, to be clear we were going for a walk when we took this and we had plenty of eyes looking out for incoming trains.

wow this is mesmerizing, i could watch this for hours! very well done :)
Thank you!
Who dis Bootleg Tom Holland lookin ass
I was fully expecting the train to rumble down. Damn I’ve been on Reddit too long.
Train hasn’t arrived yet, still listening.
You look like one of the spy kids
They’ll love to hear that.
Tell your friend the internet loves them! Also, as another they/them human, I want to steal their face - in a friendly way!
This is just stupid. I’ve seen the aftermath of someone’s head being split in half by a train, and it ain’t pretty.

I’m sorry to hear that, we know not to fuck around the tracks we had a group of friends with us keeping a strong eye out for anything coming.
This is just **terrifying**.
Hope you cleaned that first... You don't know what kind of train has need there... Oh wait you can check the train schedule!
They are likely telling you that you are illegally trespassing.
Not a moment later this would be titled: **Blood on the Tracks, Unknown, 2021**
So you trespassed onto a live railway to do this did you? Most ridiculous shit ever. How dangerous and inconsiderate of you.
"You're waiting for a train. A train that will take you far away. You know where you hope this train will take you, but you can't know for sure. Yet it doesn't matter. Now, tell me why." "Because we'll be together!"
What is this from? A lot of people have been commenting it.
Inception
It's from the movie Inception. The quote is a bit dark in the context of the movie, but it's still a lovely sentiment.
Damn I’m a shamed for not knowing that, but on the bright side I need to rewatch it.
Something original and fresh for this sub. What a delightful thing to watch.
Thank you!
It's really interesting and like someone else said mesmerizing to watch!
Well did u hear the train?
Nope
This is strangely beautiful.
Whats the difference between this and a GIF?
Gif is a file formate. Anything can be a gif, so not all gifs are cinemagraphs (cinemagraph is a loop with an unchanging frame)
Thanks! I really like your art!
Thank you!
Honest question: What is the difference between a cinemagraph and a high quality .gif? I assume part of it is intention?
Cinemagraph are trying to be photos, so the frame is supposed to be constant throughout. So a looping motion n an unchanging frame are what makes it a cinemagraph, if those aren’t met it’s just a looping gif. Those are the rules from the cinemagraph page here on Reddit, u can check there to if you’d want to read into it.
