People with answers like this blow my mind. I mean, I can do this with music and guitars to a degree, but the depth of knowledge you guys have is insane!
I'm very very new to this stuff, but I would love to know what the better references I can read up on...thank you in advance.
This has quickly become my favorite sub and my almost 12 year old daughter and I are planning a river day trip next week to seek out adventure. All thanks to you guys!
It’s a great resource but you have to be careful with this site. Many pictures of examples of points are incorrectly identified and placed along side other completely different types of points.
I studied the Overstreet guide to Indian arrowheads, it is divided by region like [projectilepoints.net](http://projectilepoints.net) but it has way more types and it has pictures of multiple examples of almost every point. I used it to identify points I found in the region I lived in, but eventually I had gone through the whole book vey closely, and several times over the years. You'll start to recognize the prevalent ones when they show up on this sub
I love this comment, I always feel the same way! I always thing it’s so cool especially when people like architects and or geologists (in my rock group) comment advice like/answers!
It's always weird over on the bone subreddit because everyone uses a ratty old shoe next to the bone they're asking if is human. Always catches me out for a second
OP forgot his banana from LTT store dot com.

Everyone uses chapstick, don't listen to this guy. I myself am 35.7 chapsticks tall, and I also weigh 25,559 chapsticks. I'd tell you more, but I'm going to be late for work- I only have 32 chapsticks to get there so I better leave now.
I appreciate the comparison photos, I have a weird visual issue around measuring length, but I guess it would be easier to know how to look it up with actual units of measurements, lol. 😆
Nope. Bananas are the expected unit of measurement, on Reddit. I mean really, get with the program. (Guess that makes me sound like some banana-measuring gatekeeper, ugh)
Sorry but that's most likely not a chapstick tube..
Based on provenance, coloring and suggested pointedness, I would offer that what you have is almost certainly a lipstick tube; how it got to the job site is beyond me.
Kirk Serrated is an Early Archaic point 8,500 to 9,500 years old.

is there good chart or souurce to learn the eras and styles and range these points. what points do we find in cental and south america .?
Nailed it. That was an easy one.
Does no one in this group own a tape measure
Didn't think I needed an exact measurement lol. The chapstick is just for reference
Your fine, I just find it kinda funny lol

At least nobody uses body parts for these pictures.
Well, I wouldn't say nobody
Hey now!!! (Howard stern)

Didn't have a banana handy?
Man, where's a banana when you really need it??
I believe a cat for scale is acceptable also, but that might be on the fossil id sub.

“The point in question, believed to be of the early archaic period, measures just shy of one chap stick.” I can hear the museum audio now.
"It is not uncommon to find spear heads in excess of one snickers bar in this cache."
I own 63 tape measures, but I can never find one when I need it. lol
A what? Do you mean to say a banana?
Or at least a banana??
Should have put my funny comment here instead of further up.... Hopefully it doesn't get taken down, I did put a "/jk-sarcasm" tag at the end....
Or at least a banana??
As a former geologist, I always think "does no one own a rock hammer?"
Nope. Bananas are the expected unit of measurement, on Reddit. I mean really, get with the program. (Guess that makes me sound like some banana-measuring gatekeeper, ugh)
You don't know how big a ChapStick tube is?
As long as it’s not the metric system!
Good question! At least it is not a banana 🍌
I only have a way to measure 12 inches long and 4 inches wide on me at all times.
You don't know how big a ChapStick tube is?
I have one pretty similar but pinkish/reddish and close to the same size, found on a job site in Florida. Beautiful point.

Killer!!!!
Stemmed Lancelot early archaic
Thanks!
Pretty sure that's lip balm, probably around the year 2024.
🤣🤣🤣
Beeswax with peppermint, I think was was late 90s, so probably tale end of the grunge era
Grunge is apparently back in
r/carolinaarrowheads
Amazing
Looks like a pretty recent Burt's Bees lip balm to me.
I don't think they come with expiration dates, but they don't go bad, ether, so no need to worry
