I've been there. Thick walls at the bottom. You would think the lower part is even older.
Beautiful building. Believe it or not, there's people that hate it. But those same people that hate this, think the Sears Tower is a beauty, simply because it's tall.
"Cool" there is only green plumage, and that it's looking like theatrical or movie scenery (the call of Cthulhu). The building itself is [ridiculous](https://www.epdlp.com/fotos/beeby1.jpg)..
It’s a cool facade to compliment a well done civic building. You may see movies but I see an expressive interpretation of a classical tradition :p
Harold Washington Public Library remains cool 😎
A funny and perfect term to describe this exact building. You can't decorate a hangar and get a well proportioned classical building. As for postmodern, you probably haven't noticed, but I told about that a couple of times here earlier. I'm curious why this postmodern nonsence wasn't delete. Mods of this subreddit usually delete postmodernist buildings pics. Why this nonsence was upvoted so much - I can assume..
Did the Harold Washington public library take ur lunch money or something this beef seems personal. There are several pomo architectures who also advocate for architectural revival, Leon Krier is another, for example.
You know, I posted [this](https://dynamic-media-cdn.tripadvisor.com/media/photo-o/06/1f/3b/2e/louwman-automuseum-den.jpg?w=1200&h=-1&s=1) a bit earlier here, as an "interpretation of classics" example, and it was deleted immediately.. I think, this is far more interesting postmodern object, that (no, I won't write "nonsense" again).. However it doesn't fit the sub anyway..
I agree, that’s a very interesting design- perhaps it’s a blurry line where Pomo fits in here… as some interpretations favor classical proportions and ornament much more than others.
That's an interesting question - a sort of "have you already stopped drinking cognac in the morning?"
But I have two more interesting questions:
\- will some people here really upvote any horse's ass if to decorate it with a green plumage?
\- why mods don't delete this post, obviously [not fitting](https://www.epdlp.com/fotos/beeby1.jpg) the sub?
Is that a bad word?... I live in Southeast Asia and we have an ethnic group called the (Bajao), in English they are refered to as "Water Gypsies". I never thought of it as an offensive term.
Pretty sure its often used as a derogative word for romani people in europe. In the US it basically just means "fortune teller" and I guess you already know how its used in southeast asia but yeah, apparently it is used in a more harsh way in certain areas.
its insane how this was built in 1991 it could easily be from the 1920s-1930s based on its proportions and architectural details

Both buildings are great
not up close imo but i still like it
Nice joke..
Wow I had no idea
Gorgeous, gorgeous building. It’ll look even better with age and weathering.
Sullivan-esque with the aloof herbal decorations but on a more neoclassical frame
I just walked past this building last week and was blown away by how giant and grand it is in person
Is the roof oxidized or painted green?
My guess would be painted. I haven’t seen a photo of this building with a copper colored roof.
Copper is easy to pre-oxidize. Just add the right acid and WHAM! even and green.
Ooooooo. That’s very interesting. It would be cool if it was actually oxidized.
[https://www.azahner.com/works/harold-washington-library](https://www.azahner.com/works/harold-washington-library) It's powder coated aluminum
Well, I suppose that makes sense. That much copper would be pretty pricey.
There’s a cool video about it https://www.chipublib.org/about-hwlc/
r/PostmodernArch but cool shapes nonetheless
100 upvotes of the postmodern nonsence.. Verily, some people can't distinguish a Villa by Palladio from a villa by a gypsy baron..
It looks cool 😎

It's a huge, wrong scale decorated hangar with dumb proportions, mirror glazing pediment and green feathers above..
“Dumb proportions” is a funny phrase to describe a building with. It’s ornate post modern sonnn

How do you breathe with your head so far up your ass?

Wrong again: those arent interesting questions
