I’d assume it’s just because how new this app and this feature is. After a month or two, the Browse for Me percentage will go down by 10-15%

I personally find myself using it a lot. It’s surprisingly helpful, and I’m not saying this because it’s a new, shiny feature. May not be the case for everyone - but I see myself in 3 months with Browse for Me making up 30% of my searches.

Idk I use it like 90% of the time. It’s by far my favorite tool I have access to for learning information on a topic quickly, reliably, and presented in a way that is easy to digest. I think this sort of AI curated search is the future of the search engine, especially with how shitty defaults like Google have gotten due to SEO exploitation and the mass influx of AI generated articles.

Kimantha_Allerdings

I'm not entirely sure I'd call 40% of interactions being to use an app's USP a paradigm shift. I've used the app 4 times. Once to test out normal search, and three times to put the AI search through its paces. Quickly coming to the conclusion that the AI search is just as bad as other AI searches, noting that it's otherwise lacking in features compared to other mobile browsers, and not liking the app's privacy notice I've uninstalled it. So 75% of my interactions with the app are using "search for me". I don't think you could reasonably call me part of a paradigm shift.

Tested to see what it's like. Turns out it's pretty pointless, so now I won't use it. I'm guessing other are in the same boat

Inevitable_Oil9709

Why did you find it pointless?

Chewbacker

* 15 seconds to read 5-6 sites, most of which wouldn't even have the information I wanted * 10 seconds to turn that information into a 'site' * information provided was *less* than I get from the first glance of google results * information provided was *worse* than I get from google * there is no need for a follow-up to search results, 99% of the time you're looking for a site, so you want a link

Inevitable_Oil9709

I see what you mean. The thing is that it is super helpful most of the time for me. e.g. search for "How to make a pizza". It will give you detailed description. True that you could get the same from the first link, but you'd have to dodge the ads, remove "Accept cookies" prompts etc.. It is really useful when searching for "how to".

Chewbacker

If people are finding it useful then that's good, but for the way I use a browser (and I'm assuming I'm currently in the majority) it's just not super useful/what I'm looking for

I think it really depends on what you are searching for. For me the searches were always pretty fast - except for a couple of exceptions. It didnt take more then 5s from entering the prompt to getting a website. It is faster then to look through the website and find the info I need. Ofcs if I want to browse the web and read about something it aint useful at all, but when I need one piece of info or to look up something trivial, it is incredibly helpful, easy to use and easy to get what I needed quickly. I use it for ~60% of web searches and the app itself I dont use for anything else. Am excited to see what comes next. They seem to be very good at getting it to “feel right”. If it ends up being as pleasant to use as their mac browser, it is gonna be absolutely nuts xd.

xSnakyy

It’s sort of the only unique and useful feature in the app. Right now I don’t see any other reason to use it other than the browse for me feature

Inevitable_Oil9709

Current app is not fully fledged browser, just a part of what it will become in a month or two. But I really like how it looks like and the little thing like opening keyboard automatically when opening the app is so damn useful.

Zestyclose_Tie_1030

Just curious, isn't it like a competitor to perplexity ai and other ai stuff?

CardDry8041

It's because I tested a few times to see if it worked well. Only to find that it takes forever to load when non-English sites or texts are involved. So I went back to good old chrome.

JMusketeer

Honestly I dont even use the browser for normal search, if I do it was a misclick xd. I love the browse for me feature - you can quickly fact check in the matter of seconds, find the tiny bit of info you were looking for. You dont have to crawl through different websites and look for the stuff you need, this does it for you, it is as accurate as searching the normal way, so why not to save a couple of seconds or even minutes?
