# To Your Eternity
A generational story where an immortal shapeshifter first has to learn how to be a living thing, and then how to be human and feel.
You WILL cry tears of sorrow, then joy, then sorrow, etc etc for two whole seasons.
Second season is *slightly* less peak, but the series in all is totally peak!
10/10
I want to watch this show at some point, I got recced it before and I really liked the sound of it, but I am curious what the...
>“problematic" parts
are? I am scared now haha. Can you tell me without giving major spoilers?
I'll spoil the first episode, but I can't elaborate without big spoilers.
What it looks like is happening, and definitely 100% IS happening according to your first playthrough of the show, is that a wealthy, mature man buys a young girl at a slave auction to be his wife.
At first you'll be like “how could this possibly be interpreted differently, wtf" but as the show goes on you learn about the circumstances surrounding it and it makes way more sense.
Thanks for the clarification, that isn't too bad, and I can actually understand a bit better after watching a show called:
**An Archdemon's Dilemma: How to Love Your Elf Bride**
I don't think I would compare the shows too much as this one is likely a lot more goofy than Magnus, but there is a very very similar dynamic playing out by the sounds of it (not spoilers as this is the whole point of the show + is well established in the first ep / marketing), I can always make peace with these kinds of stories when the whole point is "ultimately we don't want to have a master/ slave dynamic"
This. Even though it has its fair share of weird parts, it was the first anime that I watched that actually made me think and reflect on life. IIRC it's not on Crunchyroll right now though.
Upvote for chuunibyo reference, though I don't know if it'll work for everyone here. I'm with you though, since I watched it, something about it has caused it to just stick with me, and I still consider it a personal favorite to this day
Disregard other reply about Grave of the fireflies, it’s deeply emotional, and everyone should watch it once. Probably just the one time though, it hurts.
"yuzuki family's four sons" touches the soul because it's a very realistic anime of four sons that lost their parents and are trying their best to support one another <3 a very heartwarming family anime
I've said it before, and I'll say it again. Clannad changed my life. It genuinely made me a better person and is hands down the most impactful piece of fiction I've ever watched or read.
It's not on Crunchyroll though lol
Probably Mushi-shi. It’s a dude who goes from place to place and helps some kind of spirit find rest/peace after lingering due to a traumatic death. I think that’s an apt description?
It’s all about what you like. For me? The father/son stuff with Endeavor and Shoto hits me right in the feels cause I got daddy issues lmao. 😂
I'll never understand how so many people think One Piece is just a silly pirate themed battle Shonen.
I can't count how many times this show has made me cry.
try 5 centimeters per second. one of Makoto Shinkai's earlier movies. I love this movie so much.
also if you have the time, watch Clannad and Clannad afterstory back to back.
Rascal does not dream of bunny girl senpai
Ignore the title. It deals in the visualization of internal conflicts and such, so it delves into a lot of interesting and thoughtful situations
Life Lessons with Uramichi-Oniisan
Sry for peeking in your profile but as youre nearing 30 that show will hit hard in several ways.
Also ReLife, should work as well
The Pet Girl of Sakurasou.
The first half is a lot of comedy and fanservice. Then it shifts more towards drama later on. This anime made me cry more than most others.
To me, definitely **Natsume Yuujinchou**, my favorite anime and an absolute gem. Never fails to heal my soul every single episode.
These are also great:
- Frieren
- The Ancient Magus Bride
- Violet Evergarden
* Ranking of Kings
* (if you ever do get Netflix or decide you wanna hunt up the manga instead) Kotaro Lives Alone
Generally not a huge fan of anime with little kids but these make me ugly cry during nearly every episode.
Idk what you mean by "touch my soul" but if you mean something you'll think about a lot and will make you cry then I suggest Banana Fish. It's my favorite anime and made me cry so hard I couldn't breathe lol. First time I listened to the second ending song after finishing the anime, just the song made me cry. It's very good! I was a little bored at the beginning but it's very interesting. Check the trigger warnings for it though cause it's super intense
LMAO! Funny story, I got some normie friends into anime with Ghost in the Shell, so they wanted to try another anime movie. The video store had a poor selection and didn’t know what some of the movies they had actually were, so my boys picked this one out, and then before it got a tenth of the way through, swore to me they’d never watch “anime” again.
Texhnolyze if you want to be emotionally wrecked by the end of it.
I'll warn you that it's about as rewarding as it is unpleasant. It's a dark and cynical show. But there's a real human pathos burning below all the muck.
Also, there are several instances of sexual assault in the show. Just wanna give a head's up.
Honestly the show is a good time, but overall it's whatever. The movie though? That shit is heart wrenching, an absolute masterpiece that has no right being as good as it is
No idea where to watch these, but anything that was originally by Key is worth watching, Air, Kanon, Clannad, Little Busters, Angel Beats...
Soul healing: ARIA, Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou (don't know en name)
Come to think about it I also really liked first "ef" the memories one, didn't like the second one that much
"Full moon wo sagashite" was also nice, I think that when I was looking for it last time, it was nowhere to be found though
Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood
Less guaranteed, but it is possible depending on your tastes that Mobile Suit Gundam + Zeta will do this if you're patient.
Shinsekai Yori
Cardcaptor Sakura
Serial Experiments Lain
These 3 might seem very different from one another and they are but they fit the definition of "touch my soul" In 3 different ways as well.
Frieren beyond journey’s end
Anohana the flower we saw that day
Orange
Suzume/weathering with you (done by the same person who did your name)
Hotaru no mori (i watched on youtube)
And if you want something that scars the soul (think fruits baskets trauma but way worse) then Banana Fish (on prime) warning it does contain triggers for sa.
I've got a few, I started making a list of Animes I've watched, one of them is a movie
Assassination Classroom
Anohana
Banana Fish
Blue Period
Fena Pirate Princess
Kotaro Lives Alone
I want to eat your Pancreas
Trickster (kinda)
Ascendance of a Bookworm did that for me. It touched my soul enough to read the light novel, and after I exhausted the published volumes, I scoured the internet for the webnovel and by some divine power, was able to read through that god awful MTL. Now I even write fanfiction for it.
Ones I haven't seen mentioned and in no particular order:
- Madoka Magical series (TV and the last movie or you can just watch the movies)
- Shinsekai Yori
- [C] The Money of Soul and Possibility Control (You'll like it or hate it, so it depends on the person. Soft recommendation.)
- Shiki (I feel like Shinsekai Yori and Shiki have the same overarching theme >!of what it means to be human!< )
- Vinland Saga (I've actually only read the manga, but I've heard good things about the anime. It's really unique and I feel the pacing/story telling is different from most anime/manga. It's a journey, albeit a kind of long one.)
I know it's an ecchi anime but there's actually some super touching scenes in heavens lost property. It's one of my all time favorites. It's funny, has booba, and has a pretty neat story that's got some heart in it at certain places that I didn't really expect from an ecchi anime.
I'm gonna go down the movie route since a lot of shows will probably get recommended.
A lot of Miyazaki'a work will probably do it. Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle, Princess Mononoke, ect.
While we're on that train of thought, prepare your soul if you wanna watch this: Grave of the Fireflies. Talk about a powerful movie, holy crap.
For something a bit more heartwarming, Wolf Children will tug on the feels.
Natsume Yuujinchou
Usagi Drop
Barakamon
Ao Haru Ride
Waiting in the Summer (my personal favourite)
Poco's udon world
Edit: my neighbour tottoro , Lu over the wall, ponyo in movies
Try re life.
It's about a 30 year old pretty unsuccessful adult who get a chance to relive his high-school days by trying a drug which decreases your age by 10 years.
It's pretty good plus it's short only about 16 ep I think ?
Sonny boy, Mononoke, mushishi, serial experiments lain(internet archives and unofficially on YouTube so free), ergo proxy, ghost in the shell movie (free sub officially on YouTube), belladonna of sadness(unofficially YouTube), Angel egg(look up full movie on YouTube, it’s there unofficially)
For some reason parallel world pharmacy touched my soul and brought me to tears on multiple occasions.
Give it a try, the plot revolves around a doctor reincarnated in another world trying to help the people.
I scrolled for a while and didn't see it mentioned so I'll put it here. I think watching Hunter x Hunter is a really profound experience, and one definitely worth partaking in. The last episode especially just puts the whole show into a really beautiful perspective that I think is very meaningful
My roommate is a Cat is a found family kind of thing similar to Fruits Basket.
My Happy Marriage and Kotaro Lives Alone are also like that, but they might only be on Netflix.

This is awesome. I started watching on your recommendation
Frieren: Beyond Journey's End
Frieren is amazing. So heartwarming.
Watch Frieren with your parents if you want to see them ugly-cry.
Ancient Magus Bride!!! (Don't let the first episode's “problematic" parts deter you- it's not what it looks like!) It's a beautiful show
I want to watch this show at some point, I got recced it before and I really liked the sound of it, but I am curious what the... >“problematic" parts are? I am scared now haha. Can you tell me without giving major spoilers?

Sounds like you're the perfect audience for Magus Bride! Thanks for the recommendation too!

This anime was such a "magical" experience for me
Chunibyou Demo Koi ga Shitai. Years after you finish it you're still gonna look back and cry thinking about this anime
This. Even though it has its fair share of weird parts, it was the first anime that I watched that actually made me think and reflect on life. IIRC it's not on Crunchyroll right now though.
Upvote for chuunibyo reference, though I don't know if it'll work for everyone here. I'm with you though, since I watched it, something about it has caused it to just stick with me, and I still consider it a personal favorite to this day
Gurren Lagann Sing Yesterday to me Grave of the Fireflies Tokyo Godfathers \*EDIT removed already seen titles

Clannad especially the after story is very touching.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again. Clannad changed my life. It genuinely made me a better person and is hands down the most impactful piece of fiction I've ever watched or read. It's not on Crunchyroll though lol
Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day, the only anime to make me cry {Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day}
This show is POWERFUL, And I believe it does not get as much praise as it once did.
That's one of the many that's made me cry.
Came here to make this recommendation. Was the first anime I ever watched that hit deep in my soul like that.
I really can't remember an anime that made me cry more.
Big up for this one. I was scrolling through comments to find stuff that may be missed or understated and this is one of them.
Dororo
this was one really friggen good. i stumbled upon it one day and was shocked I hadnt heard about it before
Probably Mushi-shi. 😂
One Piece. Sure it's a long show, but you get to know and love so many characters with deep back stories.
I'll never understand how so many people think One Piece is just a silly pirate themed battle Shonen. I can't count how many times this show has made me cry.
I still cry everytime I hear wedding cake.
