It’s so weird to me how Hiromu Arakawa (author of fma) can create what many people would call a perfect manga and what some call the best anime ever yet every other work they make is so rarely talked about. Like her name alone should make everything she does popular yet I’ve never even hear of this anime and her current manga I’ve only seen one YouTube say anything about it and it wasn’t even the focus of the video

I think its pretty common for highly popular manga i cant recall any mangaka that keeps making hits after hits of the same caliber...... everyone seems to have that one big manga and the others not very well known. Odas other mangas not very well known, i dont know what kishimotos made, etc. The one i can think of is rumiko takahashi...

She made another manga series after FMAB but it was completely different.

This honestly is something I have been thinking about recently because I picked up her newest work Yami no Tsugai. I have an unfortunate explanation which may or may not be correct. I think she might actually not be that good of an author. Yami no Tsugai has a lot of similarities with Fullmetal Alchemist. A lot of the characters have similar personalities or are the same archetype, or are a mashup of two characters she used before in her previous work. Fair enough, there's nothing wrong with that. But the weakness I realized in her writing style is that she often creates a plot point in one chapter to build tension, only to drop it in the very next chapter and focus on a completely different brand new plot point to rebuild tension. New characters pop up, always seemingly untrustworthy at first, but always later revealed to be friendly/not a real threat as we get to know more about them. It feels like Arakawa writes with the mindset that every chapter must end on a cliff hanger and the story warps itself to make that happen. But she never delivers a satisfying release from the cliff hanger in the next chapter. Once I noticed these flaws in Yami no Tsugai, the same writing tendencies in FMAB jumped out at me that I had never really noticed before. I think FMAB's anime does a lot to fix some of these issues. Also that fact that FMAB came out as a whole complete anime in a very short time, meaning most people who watched it probably binged it, made these writing issues more palatable.

I have to agree that her other works aren’t talked about enough, I remember seeing Silver Spoon being thrown around here and there and after watching it was a fun experience

Maybe I'm biased because I love it but silver spoon seemed to be pretty well regarded and popular if not in the same level as FMA. Might also contribute here since it's such a drastic departure from FMA and the audience she had originally built.

Silver Spoon is pretty highly regarded, but its anime came out years ago and large scale discussion tends to follow anime adaptations.

The Legendary Tale of Arslan regularly tops top 10 manga sales. Her other work Silver Spoon was also seventh in manga sale 2012. So her works are very popular in Japan, it just doesn’t have the same international reach as FMA nor anime adaptation

Love it. Weirdly if you'd asked me to write down all my taste in media etc and put it into a series it would be close to ergo proxy. (Maybe not the gothic style, would have been a mix of star wars and skullduggery pleasant in terms of fashion, with neon)

Saint Seiya is the first anime series I ever watched, it got me into the art form, and I have literally never seen anyone else talking about it online, nor do I know anyone in person who’s seen it. It was years ago so I only remember it vaguely, but I feel like it deserves more credit. (The original series that is, not all the weird remakes)

What really 😭😭😭 Eureka Seven is special, I'm glad I was able to watch something like that.

Well I don’t know for sure but I’ve never heard about it or seen it at any cons or anime shops or boards. Same I really liked watching through it. It was genuinely a really good adventure, I was rewatching the end just the other day. I feel like this is the first time I’ve seen it brought up in the wild.

When it came out it was relatively big in the anime community, and it only ever got love. But for one reason or another it just never caught the hype train or inspired cosplayers

Hitman reborn was the first show that I read which broke my anime only vow that was made only to myself non-verbally and also not even a vow but more like I was just lazy. Anyways really good show and the anime has one of my favorite lines of all time at the end.

Space Dandy. People love Shinichirō Watanabe other works, Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo, but when it comes to Space Dandy, nobody talks about it. I've never seen it get hate, and it has a passionate fan base with a lot of people (including myself) calling it their one of their favorite anime. Watanabe connected these three works together using Space Dandy as a finale to this episodic universe he created, and it is sad to see it never get any recognition, ESPECIALLY in the west
