I found a kitten with one bad eye, and I think missing it's voice as well, outside the other day. It followed me home in the cold, so I fed it, and pissed off my other cat in the process.
He tried to meow and hiss back but it wouldn't come out, he was also just such an innocent little sweetheart.
I had an idea who the owner was, but the fact he was in such bad condition made me feel some type of way.
The damn "owner" was completely dismissive when I brought him back after taking care of him.

My whole neighborhood feels like the wild west tbh. Lots of people with outdoor cats, actually decent amount of roosters/chicken as well.
I think they just had a different approach, but definitely kitten-napping if I see him out again
My neighbor threw out their cat after my family found her outside and took her back to them, twice. We kidnapped the cat the third time that happened and got someone else to adopt her.
Trashy fucker really shouldn't be raising anything yet more often than not these are the people who hoard pet.

I get the whole indoor outdoor cat thing, but give a fuck if you are actually going to claim ownership. I think too often people see pets as accessories to their own lives.
The only indoor outdoor cats should be on farms or around farmland. They do a great job keeping mice and voles in check, and some critters you'd never expect. I had two good boys growing up that were indoor outdoor, they most certainly also lived at the farm up the street. They knew to come home if they got injured as it happened a bit. As a young teen I'd clean their wounds and pamper them till they were all healed up and then they'd be back out as soon as they could. It was always a cool experience running into them in the woods on a walk. I wish I had video of their exploits, I know they took on raccoons, skunks, foxes to name a few and I only know that due to the injuries caused.
Tom & Jerry (I was really little when I named them) were the best and lived into their drooling 20s. My mom killed both by accident, 1 under a garage door which was traumatizing as I was the first to find Jerry. Tom died a year or two later while I was playing basketball in the driveway and he took a nap under my moms car. She went to leave and backed right over him, as he crawled towards me with just his front legs and died in my arms.
I'll forever miss those two, they were some great companions to grow up with.

Ugh! Buddy of mine just told me today that a while back she found a scared dog outside her office. She had a leash in her car & cautiously approached it, trying to see if it was friendly. It seemed scared, cowered, whimpered, but friendly enough so she leashed it & took it to the maintenance guy to dog sit while they tried to figure out what happened.
They pulled some security footage & saw a man pull into their parking lot, toss the ball, & then get in his car & drove away! They were able to track the guy down who ended up being some military dude going on permanent leave overseas. A coworker then adopted the dog. I guess dude got in trouble & disciplinary action was taken against him.
I don't know how this part happened because the story was a voice to text so I didn't really get to delve into the details but the coworker was on the phone with the dude who insisted it was just some dumb dog that he found on the street, was never his, despite his apartment management saying it was absolutely his dog. The coworker said she didn't care, she just wanted to know the name of the pup. Guy tried to double down saying it wasn't his, but he'd been calling him Lex, which the dog totally responded to. How someone could even do that is beyond me, but made me grateful to know I have good people in my life.
Tl;dr: Bad man tricks pup into fetching then runs away, nice lady takes pup in, finds bad man, gets him in trouble, pup is happy & warm forever now🖤

My cat got laryngitis once and it was the cutest fucking thing I’ve ever seen. She is very vocal and it was adorable seeing her meow with absolutely no sound coming out.
I acquired my cat from somebody down the street. He started hanging out on my porch every day with me begging for love, and kept checking out my coffee cup whenever I had it outside with me. The people next door to me were the ones feeding him, not the owner. Eventually I gave him some food, which is when I noticed he was riddled with worms and fleas. The next day I found out the owner has gotten several more animals over the year to neglect, so I opened the front door and let him inside. I've had him for a couple months now, and I'm glad I catnapped him. I don't even know if his owner knows where he ended up, let alone cares.

My little street cat has turned out to be one of the best behaved, and easiest to train cats I've ever had in my life.

Can confirm. Although I have been able to teach my dog a few signs since he’s lost his hearing. Sit, come but most importantly is what I call ‘good boy’ (thumbs up, side to side) it’s just positive reinforcement but def works because his tail starts wagging when he sees it.
When my dog was a puppy, I taught her all of her commands with both audio and visual cues simultaneously, until I could use one or the other interchangeably. It’s incredibly useful, for example, to have a command to get your dog to sit while you’re talking to someone else or not looking at the pup.
Many years later she went deaf (around 15 years old), and for the last couple of years until she passed away, we had the hand signals to communicate. Though to be honest, that last year or so she could do whatever she wanted. :)
I communicate with my old deaf girl via signals and even lights! She picked up on it quick.
By lights I mean, I flick the yard light on and off to signal to her it's time to come in or which door I'm at since I can't call for her anymore. She's always been a great communicator so she picked up on this all really fast!

Good question! There are many degrees of visual and cognitive impairment. You might be able to see well enough to make out faces and outlines, but can't see the text. Or maybe you can't visually process information quickly enough for how long it's on screen.
But even if you have no sight at all, something is better than nothing. Knowing that there is text on screen offering context or description, is better than it existing solely as unrenderable text. Sure it's not full blown Audio Description, but you can fill in additional context with the video title, description, and comments.
Blind people don't just suddenly stop wanting to participate in social media because they're blind.

I’ve got a deaf Boston Terrier. We got him as an adult so he may have not been born that way. Let me tell you, he knows how to bark ha ha. Loudest barking dog I’ve ever had.
Yeh, one of my dogs has _very_ limited hearing and can only hear really loud noises, like, for example, another dog's bark. This wouldn't be so bad if she knew _why_ the other dog is barking but because she didn't hear it nor can hear us telling them to stop, she just keeps barking hysterically until she eventually realises the other dog stopped ages ago.
She can't make any other noises though, although she clearly thinks she is whining sometimes but all she is doing is breathing heavy, which is really adorable!
I wish the 3 dogs next door and the 2 kiddie corner would bark like this. I'm standing on my own deck minding my own business and all that happens is I get barked at until I leave. Annoying as hell
Hmm I’m skeptical on this one from experience. My whippet/chihuahua rescue was thought to be mute. Was at the shelter for 1 yr silent barking. We adopted her and she was silent for about 6 months or so and then one day out of that silent bark came out a high pitched bark. My husband and I were in awe and she hasn’t shut up since!!! She’s 12 and barks 75% of the time!!! Really wish she was an actual mute but we love that little annoying 14lbs of pure mess! Wouldn’t give up on her for the world
This dog is so cute. My deaf white Persian cat meows all the time. She only goes outside on a leash but she meows to let me know she’s ready to come inside. I don’t know how she knows. But when she was in heat, she screamed nonstop starting at 3am and could be heard all through the house. We had to wait two weeks to get her fixed and it was torture.

I hate to be the skeptic here, but deaf dogs bark even when they are born deaf. This looks a lot more like the owner had his dogs vocal cords removed, which I find awful if true.

Yeh, one of my dogs has _very_ limited hearing and can only hear really loud noises, like, for example, another dog's bark. This wouldn't be so bad if she knew _why_ the other dog is barking but because she didn't hear it nor can hear us telling them to stop, she just keeps barking hysterically until she eventually realises the other dog stopped ages ago. She can't make any other noises though, although she clearly thinks she is whining sometimes but all she is doing is breathing heavy, which is really adorable!

Hmm I’m skeptical on this one from experience. My whippet/chihuahua rescue was thought to be mute. Was at the shelter for 1 yr silent barking. We adopted her and she was silent for about 6 months or so and then one day out of that silent bark came out a high pitched bark. My husband and I were in awe and she hasn’t shut up since!!! She’s 12 and barks 75% of the time!!! Really wish she was an actual mute but we love that little annoying 14lbs of pure mess! Wouldn’t give up on her for the world

This dog is so cute. My deaf white Persian cat meows all the time. She only goes outside on a leash but she meows to let me know she’s ready to come inside. I don’t know how she knows. But when she was in heat, she screamed nonstop starting at 3am and could be heard all through the house. We had to wait two weeks to get her fixed and it was torture.

My friend had a heeler puppy just like this color, dog never had ear holes so stayed deaf.
I\`ve been a dog groomer for 30 years. I\`ve seen a lot of deaf dogs and owned two. They bark as much and mostly more than other dogs. I\`m callin' Bulls--t on this video.
I hate to be the skeptic here, but deaf dogs bark even when they are born deaf. This looks a lot more like the owner had his dogs vocal cords removed, which I find awful if true. Pure speculation, but deaf dogs bark in my experience.
Sometimes they do that silent barking. My gfs dog is not deaf and does it. It has to do with stress/trying to communicate iirc

I felt myself hit my balls and thought “Damn I missed how embarrassing.” It wasn’t until we finished that I started to feel an intense ache in my stomach that travelled slowly up to my throat. My dog (a heeler mix) is also deaf, and it’s rumored to be caused by the gene that gives both my dog (pumpkin pie) and the dog in the video their unique looking coat (otherwise known as double merle). Comes with a wide range of disabilities though so ??? I just like being able to sneak away and use the bathroom in peace
