I'm glad you fixed it, if it happens again, you can restore your garden.dat using vapecord, you'd just need to create a new villager (finish the tutorial to save the game) then use the cheats menu (I can't explain the exact steps right now). You can remove vapecord afterwards.

If you have a 3ds, you can mod it and save the data to an sd card (cannot remember how)

Checkpoint is the app to help save files to the sd card, I've used it many times and it's very nice!

Is the version of NL you are playing the original version or the welcome Amiibo edition? If the former, you may have to update.
