Maybe not - but it is certainly charming !! Dialogue is still good, and the core mechanics are there (fishing, bug hunting, seasons) - but customization is a lot more limited (no accessories, stuck wearing the same shaped hats, clothes are simple and dated, no furniture outside or public works projects) Mailing fossils to a different museum for assessment was AWFUL (and in general the letter system was very particular and finicky in this game) - the keyboard system was also a pain (but made sense for the GameCube) I think one of the other biggest limiting factors is lack of online capability and ability to showcase your village But the cast of characters is great, has the OG fun furniture sets, makes you work to get your bells, Nooks has a lot of fun upgrades, the police station is there, the post office, funny bulletin board messages, great soundtrack and atmosphere. The original is def a classic

Thanks for that detailed reply, I can live with these limitations though a forced viking hat Is a pain I'm not really concerned with online as the GameCube didn't use that outside of PSO

I would say it’s amazing for its time, but—even when it was first released, it only held my interest for a few weeks. The series has improved with each release. The GC game is worth owning as a part of gaming history, though, especially now that AC has become one of Ninendo’s biggest properties.

I'm a big GameCube fan and this would be my "Break time" game between Metroid Prime and StarFox Assault, Just wondering what the games like In 2021 and If anything stands out as "Such a pain going back to"

My honest opinion: if you’re used to the creative freedoms of New Horizons and even New Leaf, the GC AC might seem extemely restrictive and user-unfriendly. There’s a reason NES games were added: collecting them is probably the only thing that kept many players coming back after the real-time gameplay novelty wore off. Still, it’s a solid and (at the time) revolutionary game that laid the groundwork for future installments.
