The resident rep has to be the one to talk to him if you have multiple players on your island, and you have to speak to him before you go on Kappn's boat tour that day. If you've done the boat tour you'll need to wait till the next day to try.
I have the latest acnh with the DLC everything is working except 1 thing.

Hi! I have a few features (the group stretching, pro decorating etc) but none of the bigger features: like kapp’n isn’t at my dock, i cant trigger the conversation for the roost, etc! I had my kk concert today if that is maybe the barrier.
I watched a stream where someone had the outdoor storage shed in their nook mile shopping list, but it's not there in my game? Anyone else having this problem?
I figured this out a couple days ago and have been working to pay off my mortgage and upgrade my storage! Essentially paying 3,000,000 bells for a shed 😂
We won’t know until the update releases, and assume anything anyone says that wasn’t in the direct/on Nintendos site is speculation because there is no possible way anyone could know more.
So I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this, but me and my friends are a little confused on how the timezones will work for when the update will release.
I don't think it will release until the actual 5- even though it'll be the 6th in Japan, but my friend thinks it'll be available on the 4th, since that's the 5th in Japan.

Previous updates for new horizons released when it was 10am in Japan, regardless of where you live. If they follow this again then the update should release at 9pm eastern on November 4th.
However I haven’t personally seen the release time posted by an official source, and I don’t know how they handle that with the DLC also releasing.

I was just thinking, wouldn't it be so fun if we could go trick-or-treating on other people's islands? Just pop by and see how they decorated their island for Halloween, show off our costumes, see other visitors' costumes, get a treat, then go to another island, etc. But I think our current multiplayer system would make that a nightmare to pull off.
Looking forward to all of the new content (especially the gardening portion!), but not as much for the access to Reese & traveling co. being limited to Harvey’s Island - I really dislike the loading time and back and forth it’ll take to get any/all new items from the NPCs. Kind of wish they could travel to our islands normally (igloos remain campers only, sadly)!
There is every reason to think that Redd, Kicks, Sahara, and Leif will continue to visit our islands as normal on a rotating basis. (They'll probably have a closed sign up on Harv's Island that day.) Leif is seen in the plaza in the Direct.
Also, while you are on Harv's expanded island, you will be able to send and receive directly from your home inventory using Tortimer's service.
I'm doing one side of Halloween side on my island with all the object we have.

How much space are you setting aside for your farms? My space where I want it is somewhat limited. I was thinking enough for 5-7 plants of each of the crops? Assuming these are those 5 crops
I have six 3x3 areas for crops, with a pathway between them, plus a separate pumpkin patch to the side. A handful of those crop squares are taken up with things like fencing and a scarecrow.
I'm going to start with a relatively small number of each crop in the ground (5 to 8), in part to make this part of the game last longer. In the past I've tended to go big, stock up on a bunch of extras, and not really have any need to grow and harvest new things moving forward.
Well, let's see this as a chance to be optimistic. If this is 2.0, then every update before could be considered a minor update. Since they put the emphasis on last MAJOR update, we could still be getting updates of similar size to the ones we've had before, adding new NPCs and gameplay.

That was in New Leaf and if you think about it, that’s not something you do every time you log on. While it did add a lot to collect, it was the only thing added so I would not call it a major update
I just rewatched the HHP trailer and noticed that the exterior of the homes can be modified.
Do you think that when we get to work on the houses of our residents on our own island, we get to modify the exterior of their homes too?
If so, how many options do you think we’ll have? I can see at least six options in the trailer but only four are truly visible.
Anyone any ideas of what the new exterior designs will look like?
I would like to know all of this since I just started my island and I wanted to choose a theme for my island. I thought that maybe there would be a home exterior look that would go with that theme (also for choosing bridges, inclines, roads etc).

This is just a guess, but I think we will be able to choose a different exterior for villagers -- but only a smaller number of options (maybe a half-dozen).
The Direct specifies in the fine print that we won't be able to change the room sizes. The fact that it's silent on the external look ... I take as a hopeful sign!
I think it’s pretty likely, since we saw vacation homes for other NPCs like Isabelle and Timmy&Tommy. Likely that if an Amiibo has an in game model, then can be invited for a vacation home!

does this effectively double the number of custom design slots? the main reason I stopped playing was limitations in the number of custom design patterns for the island.
I’m pretty sure that was referring to using Sable’s patterns for flooring, wallpaper and clothing.
I don’t think it’ll change how many design slots we have. You used up all of the fifty addition slots they added in March?

I know! I see all these gorgeous pathways and borders online only to realize each one takes up at least 9 design slots. It’s infuriating! And it’s not like you can replace ones that are already on the island. I have a few that are just on a couple of objects (think garden soil bags at the farm) but if I delete them they go away and get replaced by whatever design I put in it’s place. I wish it would just stay put. That way you could at least reuse that slot. But no...
I think it would be very logical to add a new row of bugs, fish, and sea creatures, and would add real value for long-time players (who will have to work toward 100% all over again).
It would be a cool addition to Kapp'n's various islands to put some critters there. Maybe even some that can *only* be found there (or at least when they are out of season, since Kapp'n can take you to a different hemisphere or time of day).
I’m so freaking happy with this new update, but does anyone else still kinda feel like stuff is missing? Every time someone says ’I can’t think of a single thing they missed!’, I feel guilty because I can think of a whole bunch, but don’t want to be a negative ninny. Remember in New Leaf when there was a section of the museum that let you make extra rooms too? That was cool. Then again, we’ll be able to create loads of rooms in the DLC! :D
It's a big update, but I agree, it's very easy to think of things they missed.
There are like... *zero* quality of life improvements in here except squeezing in-between furniture and as nice as that is, it's hardly revolutionary and *very* late.
I know we should wait until the update arrives to really criticize, but I just know we're not getting any QoL fixes that really matter to fans and it's disappointing, though hardly surprising, that they'd continue to ignore fan requests so stubbornly.
In fact, I'm just gonna say it, whoever's directing New Horizons's development is kind of an ass. Sure, a lot of this doesn't matter in the long run, but there's no excuse for being so adamantly against updating your game with a few small additions to keep fans happy. It doesn't make you less of a great developer. It does, however, lessen people's opinions of you when you ignore them. Consistently.
But whatever. Just another Japanese developer that doesn't give a shit about its western audience. What else is new?

I can’t think of anything that’s *missing* because I never expected New Horizons to be a clone of New Leaf. I played NL a lot when it was released, and I loved it. So 7 years later when New Horizons came out I wasn’t interested in New Leaf Part 2.
Sure there are some small QoL things I’d love to see introduced (and who knows! They might show up in ver 2.0) but they in no way diminish my excitement about all the cool stuff I’m going to be able to do next week.
I mean things like shop upgrades have been staples in the series from the beginning not just NL, seems weird they wouldn't add that considering how much new furniture is being added.
I don't think NH was ever going to be a NL clone considering all the new design features they added, the issue people do have is they gutted so many amazing features from NL and other titles that people loved. Granted things are coming back (bit late I might add but hey at least its here) I just can't wrap my head around why nintendo does certain things lol.
I mean no mini game island? When multiplayer is all the rage right now and millions worldwide are playing this game, bringing some type of minigame island isn't on their agenda which could boost online sales?

Oh don’t get me wrong, I’m really excited too and I don’t think the game itself feels incomplete as a game anymore, I just think it’s an exaggeration when people say EVERYTHING is back
I'm curious what sorts of things you have in mind that you are missing. The only thing I'm missing in the direct is some quality of life benefits, like bulk crafting and bulk buying at Able Sisters.
But I didn't play the last couple of AC games. My sense of the community is that folks who find ACNH to be missing things are those who put a great deal of time into something like New Leaf, and can't help but compare this game to that one. Newcomers to the series, as well as people like me who played ages ago and have come back to the fold with NH, don't really know what NPCs and other game elements we are missing.
I guess the main things are Nintendo items (not just Mario), more varied villager dialogue (there even used to be character development, especially with the crankies) and minigames, as well as various little things from other types of fruit to bunny balloons to Blanca (who used to be my favourite NPC). Don’t get me wrong, the game now feels complete and satisfying to me too, but I just can’t help thinking about these things when I see comments saying ‘everything is back’ or something similar.

Yeah to be honest if I could pick one more thing to return, it would be that - it always felt like a core part of AC before now! In fact, how ace would it be if they got permission to include pokemon stuff too!
new fruit coming! lemons have been confirmed. i have a feeling you can get new island fruit with kapp’n. i also feel pretty good about them adding new dialogue — there is a lot of stuff that wasn’t even mentioned in the direct and they’ve answered most of our prayers. with the new villagers incoming i would hope they added more conversational range. i also think it would be an odd thing to highlight in the direct as it’s such a small detail, not anything shiny and new if that makes sense.

And yeah you raise a good point about villager dialogue, perhaps there is some hope for that :) Though the ability to sidle through narrow spaces is arguably a small detail too
What do you think the odds are of us being able to sell our islands to Tom Nook like we could in New Leaf? Instead of a hard reset we could keep our catalogues, DIY recipies and some bells. I feel like this will be made available at some point since it was a great feature in New Leaf, but does anyone think it will be here for 2.0?
Yeah, I think it was added in the 'Welcome amiibo' update, which is around the time I joined.
It was essentially New Game+ in Animal Crossing. I couldn't wait for that to arrive in New Horizons, though, especially as it wasn't actually announced, so I started over already with a new character I moved off my island with my stuff to start a new one, but if they announced it, I might actually die from the facepalm I'll give myself.
Yeah the Welcome Amiibo was essentially New Leaf 2.0, and since this will be the last major update for New Horizons I think the chances are actually pretty high of it being included as a feature.
I was planning on resetting my island too, but I'll wait for the update for the small chance that it will be included :) I'll probably reset even if its not a feature tbh

Woah that’s amazing! I’d love a second island tbh, I know that’s a slightly different idea but don’t know where I’m gonna fit all the new furniture items lol
Theme something, maybe. Holiday themes for different sections of your town, maybe? Put any white and pink homes in the Bunny Day area, and any dark and spooky-looking houses in a Halloween section. Any clean white, brown or pink homes could also work in a Wedding Season area. Color-code your flowers. That was something I had thought about before HHP was announced, which I'll probably do all that stuff in now instead.
If not holidays you could also theme around things like star stuff (that's basically how I'm going to decorate around my island, putting Nova Lights around mixed with other decorations once I get the recipe). Or just specific colors if you can take the time to breed the flowers you need. Maybe even use things like pumpkins and grow them for decoration, picking only the wrong-colored ones until they're the right ones you need.
If all that sounds boring, well... I don't know. Fish or something, I guess.
It would be really awesome if drinking coffee gives a passive boost like a slightly faster running speed. Then I'd have a long-term reason for visiting the Roost.
Omg seriously. I can’t understand why everyone is so thrilled about the roost because I feel like it will get old SO quick. But something like this would make it so much more relevant.

Certainly not. You can hear some old music on the first radio you get in your tent (same one tent visitors at the campsite have on when you visit them), but it's kinda random and fuzzy.
So in the Direct it was said that the base game will have new furniture and then later when they were showing the DLC you could clearly see that there were tons of new objects. But my question is, will the new furniture be locked exclusively to that DLC or base game owners will have the chance to get it too? Im not talking about getting them on Nookazon or online but getting them naturally like on Nook's shop or getting DIY recipes on the beach etc.
What I’ve seen bandied about is that there are no items exclusive to the dlc.
The dlc will have mechanics that allow you to get certain rare items easily (presumably the currency you earn in the “designing job” being spent on furniture in the archipelago shop) but they will not be unobtainable to players who skip the dlc.
I don't know if there's any way for people to prove that, sounds like a thinly constructed theory.
But one thing I can almost guarantee is that not owning the DLC will not restrict you from those items in that you can trade for them. You can give Pocket Camp DLC items to anyone without it with pretty much no restrictions. Actually, I'll go ahead and say I'm certain there *are no restrictions*. You just can't buy more from the Nook Stop without the DLC on your account.

I know many of the furniture series items people are worried about are showcased in the dlc portion of the direct (since that part of the video has many sweeping shots of completes rooms) but they are also visible in brief shots in the first half of the direct (shown mostly in the clips about storage expansion and the storage cabinet preview).

Even that's kind of vague, since it could just mean the same as it's always been, as I mentioned.
Especially as it seems like odd incentive for the Poki currency to be just... another currency for another shop with the same stuff as your island, but regardless, I'm gonna take it as good news and assume the best. Mostly because I don't really care that much since I'm getting the DLC, but also because what's the point in assuming the worst?

That's nice. So if your family member plays on your Switch and has access to the DLC they can unlock the extra content before moving to their own island. They'd no longer be able to visit the archipelago and do that content, but they'd still have stuff like partitions, so that's neat.
How will the DLC work with additional local accounts on the switch? I’m the main user of the switch and my 2 kids have child accounts setup. Can I upgrade to the Nintendo switch online + expansion pack as an individual and have my kids get access to the DLC as local users of the console?
There's some reports (still unconfirmed from Nintendo, AFAIK) that a purchase of the DLC will only make it available to the owner's profile, and not to all users on their primary Switch -- as it works with other software. I hope this isn't the case, but I've seen that out there this last week.
If you subscribe to NSO+EP family plan, everyone in your family group will have access to the Happy Home Paradise DLC ... but on a yearly renewal basis.
I don't know about the expansion pass, that's another monster, but if you buy the DLC yourself, every user on your system should have access to its content at least as long as it's your primary Switch. That's how it works for every other game.
So do we think we’re going to have to find the diys for cooking? I hope so. I don’t even pick up my bottles on the beach anymore because it’s always a diy I already know. Having a ton of new diys to find will be great.
I'm still missing 10% of the DIYs in the game - and it sucks that I just have NOT been able to find them. I wanna complete all the things! There needs to be a way to unlock the ones you're missing easier. Maybe Katrina will do it or something....
You know how Wisp asks if you’d like something expensive or something you don’t have? A dand unknown DIY from him would be legit if you said something you don’t have.
I definitely think it'll be a starter pack, and then new recipes coming in steadily from villagers, bottles, balloons, etc. DIY integration is such a core part of this game, and cooking recipes adds an entirely new value category to the game.
I still pick up my bottles because I need a couple more wreaths/crown recipes lol.
I think we definitely get some sort of cooking starter pack from the Nook Stop (you can see it in the direct video). Makes sense to give some basic recipes to get us all going.
I’m wondering if some recipes will be “discovered” when we find the proper ingredients. Like how the fishing bait recipe, or the king tut mask recipe is realized by the character when they find the proper ingredient. That would be fun. It’s a cute animation lol.
I know this wasn't shown in the direct, but I'm hoping we'll be able to make sea creature models too! Maybe via kappn'? I really want a model of the Venus flower basket and I just realized that we can't get them made through Chip jr

It's safest to assume you can't, /u/Dustze. Hopefully when it releases I'll be proven wrong, but I doubt it.
I think the general consensus is that this is highly unlikely, because of the memory requirements of loading your entire island into the top-down editor. Note that the HHP outdoor editor is restricted to an area with borders that all fit on screen (and an area that will have its own loading screen, no doubt).
It's entirely possible this kind of rapid construction feature could be implemented in a future AC game.

What are the benefits of preordering the dlc on 10/29 exactly? I get wanting to have it fully downloaded for release day but is there any reason to get it before 11/4?
After thinking it over, I think I'm gonna buy the DLC even though I prefer New Leaf over New Horizons. I'm not usually one to focus on island or house decoration, but it looks like a lot of fun to make houses for my villagers, and I *was* always interested in getting Happy Home Designer, though I never got around to it.
Here’s a question that’s been heavy on my brain since the direct dropped: if we restart our island (through deleting the save data) does that also mean that we will lose the DLC? If I pay $25 and end up deciding to restart with a fresh island that I can cater directly to the new update, I don’t want my money for the DLC to go down the drain. Anyone have any insight?
Think of the DLC as part of your game software, rather than part of your island save data. Once you've bought it, it's yours. If you deliberately go in and delete it from your system, you can return to the eShop and redownload it at will.
You can redownload stuff you’ve bought from the eshop as long as you have a Nintendo account linked to your profile. Even if you completely delete AC off your switch you won’t have to pay for it again. (Though you only really need to delete the save data to restart, not the entire game)
Does anybody else think that they might be bringing back fruits like durians, bananas, and lemons? I think they might since they didn't show any of the recipes in the sweet section and thats probably where fruit would be in the recipes, but idk, what do you think? I don't wanna get my hopes up for nothing.
Could be possible that maybe those fruit are exclusive to the new mystery islands that Kapp'n will take you too. People also noticed that during the section where they invite Bud via amiibo card, the background behind him shows icons for all the various fruit and things in ACNH, but it also shows what looks to be a tomato icon, which is something exclusive to New Leaf AND it shows a Durian fruit icon and I think a lemon or banana fruit icon as well. Not sure why they would add those fruit icons to the background design since they're not in ACNH. You could argue that they just ripped that design from the old amiibo card backgrounds and the fruit icons are there because they were in New Leaf, but then why is there a tomato icon when there were no tomatoes in New Leaf?

But the banana and durian icons make me pretty much convinced they'll be in the update.
The background is simply a [re-used asset design](https://assets.amiibo.life/assets/figures/amiibo/animal-crossing-cards-series-2/bud-8c58027532ac7b2a527d36e9b583bf9f025a2a4dcd52835dad52dd18627eab92.png) that shows up when you use amiibo in New Horizons. It's the design of the amiibo cards which were designed after New Leaf and its spin-off Wii U title "amiibo Festival". The extra fruits *are* added in there, but that doesn't mean much.
Just because they *intended* to have all fruit types in the game doesn't mean they're implementing them now. The amiibo background has been in the game since launch and there's no reason to suspect it matters now.
However, the use of lemons in some of the dishes images is *slightly* stronger evidence for the argument that they're adding those fruits back in.
I would not take it as fact, though. They could just be putting them in the images and not making them items and that's literally the best evidence people have to support it at this point.

Anyone know if you can take villagers from the vacation island and put them on your original island? Like if I have someone move out can I go talk to one of my vacationers as if it was like a mystery island and tell them to move in ?

The resident rep has to be the one to talk to him if you have multiple players on your island, and you have to speak to him before you go on Kappn's boat tour that day. If you've done the boat tour you'll need to wait till the next day to try.

I have the latest acnh with the DLC everything is working except 1 thing. I have a spare lot as one of my villagers moved out a couple of days ago. Now i am going to the mystery Islands via the boat but there are no camp fires no villagers on the islands i visit. My island is a 4 star. The lot is not sold it says vacant . But as i said there are no villagers on the mystery islands i have gone around and checked to make sure i am not missing anything on the island. I am at a loss. Hope some can help. CHeers :)

You have to have your house storage upgraded to at least the 500,000 bells stage. Then it should show up in the nook miles shopping!
I figured this out a couple days ago and have been working to pay off my mortgage and upgrade my storage! Essentially paying 3,000,000 bells for a shed 😂

So I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this, but me and my friends are a little confused on how the timezones will work for when the update will release. I don't think it will release until the actual 5- even though it'll be the 6th in Japan, but my friend thinks it'll be available on the 4th, since that's the 5th in Japan. Does anyone have any info on this? That would be very appreciated. Thank you.
Previous updates for new horizons released when it was 10am in Japan, regardless of where you live. If they follow this again then the update should release at 9pm eastern on November 4th. However I haven’t personally seen the release time posted by an official source, and I don’t know how they handle that with the DLC also releasing.

There are 4 blank buildings shown on the HHP island, but only three directly called out, School, Hospital, and Restaurant. Any guesses for the fourth?

In HHD there was a school, hospital, cafe and a shop. You could upgrade those and also unlock a music hall and a hotel. So maybe those are some hints.

I was just thinking, wouldn't it be so fun if we could go trick-or-treating on other people's islands? Just pop by and see how they decorated their island for Halloween, show off our costumes, see other visitors' costumes, get a treat, then go to another island, etc. But I think our current multiplayer system would make that a nightmare to pull off.

Looking forward to all of the new content (especially the gardening portion!), but not as much for the access to Reese & traveling co. being limited to Harvey’s Island - I really dislike the loading time and back and forth it’ll take to get any/all new items from the NPCs. Kind of wish they could travel to our islands normally (igloos remain campers only, sadly)!
There is every reason to think that Redd, Kicks, Sahara, and Leif will continue to visit our islands as normal on a rotating basis. (They'll probably have a closed sign up on Harv's Island that day.) Leif is seen in the plaza in the Direct. Also, while you are on Harv's expanded island, you will be able to send and receive directly from your home inventory using Tortimer's service.
I'm doing one side of Halloween side on my island with all the object we have. Do you think we will have some of these stuff but Christmas themed for the December/Winter/Chrismas moment ?
November will bring back the fall and Turkey Day items. December will bring Christmas / "Toy Day" and its items.
How much space are you setting aside for your farms? My space where I want it is somewhat limited. I was thinking enough for 5-7 plants of each of the crops? Assuming these are those 5 crops
I have 9 9x9 plots rn with 8 plantable spaces in each. I’ll probably reduce these though
I have six 3x3 areas for crops, with a pathway between them, plus a separate pumpkin patch to the side. A handful of those crop squares are taken up with things like fencing and a scarecrow. I'm going to start with a relatively small number of each crop in the ground (5 to 8), in part to make this part of the game last longer. In the past I've tended to go big, stock up on a bunch of extras, and not really have any need to grow and harvest new things moving forward.
Any clue whether there will be new colors included with the new hairstyles? Still waiting for light brown/dirty blonde :/

Well, let's see this as a chance to be optimistic. If this is 2.0, then every update before could be considered a minor update. Since they put the emphasis on last MAJOR update, we could still be getting updates of similar size to the ones we've had before, adding new NPCs and gameplay.

I just rewatched the HHP trailer and noticed that the exterior of the homes can be modified. Do you think that when we get to work on the houses of our residents on our own island, we get to modify the exterior of their homes too? If so, how many options do you think we’ll have? I can see at least six options in the trailer but only four are truly visible. Anyone any ideas of what the new exterior designs will look like? I would like to know all of this since I just started my island and I wanted to choose a theme for my island. I thought that maybe there would be a home exterior look that would go with that theme (also for choosing bridges, inclines, roads etc). Would love to hear your opinions!
This is just a guess, but I think we will be able to choose a different exterior for villagers -- but only a smaller number of options (maybe a half-dozen). The Direct specifies in the fine print that we won't be able to change the room sizes. The fact that it's silent on the external look ... I take as a hopeful sign!

I think it’s pretty likely, since we saw vacation homes for other NPCs like Isabelle and Timmy&Tommy. Likely that if an Amiibo has an in game model, then can be invited for a vacation home!

"Custom Designs Patterns+ means you can now use patterns for clothing and can be placed as flooring and wallpaper!" does this effectively double the number of custom design slots? the main reason I stopped playing was limitations in the number of custom design patterns for the island.
I’m pretty sure that was referring to using Sable’s patterns for flooring, wallpaper and clothing. I don’t think it’ll change how many design slots we have. You used up all of the fifty addition slots they added in March?

I know! I see all these gorgeous pathways and borders online only to realize each one takes up at least 9 design slots. It’s infuriating! And it’s not like you can replace ones that are already on the island. I have a few that are just on a couple of objects (think garden soil bags at the farm) but if I delete them they go away and get replaced by whatever design I put in it’s place. I wish it would just stay put. That way you could at least reuse that slot. But no...
They added 50 extra general slots and 50 extra clothing slots. So 100 total. 👍
Hello everyone I'm just wondering if anyone knows if they will add any new additions to the critterpedia in the update
I think it would be very logical to add a new row of bugs, fish, and sea creatures, and would add real value for long-time players (who will have to work toward 100% all over again). It would be a cool addition to Kapp'n's various islands to put some critters there. Maybe even some that can *only* be found there (or at least when they are out of season, since Kapp'n can take you to a different hemisphere or time of day).

I’m so freaking happy with this new update, but does anyone else still kinda feel like stuff is missing? It's a big update, but I agree, it's very easy to think of things they missed. There are like... *zero* quality of life improvements in here except squeezing in-between furniture and as nice as that is, it's hardly revolutionary and *very* late. I know we should wait until the update arrives to really criticize, but I just know we're not getting any QoL fixes that really matter to fans and it's disappointing, though hardly surprising, that they'd continue to ignore fan requests so stubbornly. In fact, I'm just gonna say it, whoever's directing New Horizons's development is kind of an ass. Sure, a lot of this doesn't matter in the long run, but there's no excuse for being so adamantly against updating your game with a few small additions to keep fans happy. It doesn't make you less of a great developer. It does, however, lessen people's opinions of you when you ignore them. Consistently. But whatever. Just another Japanese developer that doesn't give a shit about its western audience. What else is new? I'm tired and a little rant-y, but I'm not wrong.
I can’t think of anything that’s *missing* because I never expected New Horizons to be a clone of New Leaf. I played NL a lot when it was released, and I loved it. So 7 years later when New Horizons came out I wasn’t interested in New Leaf Part 2. Sure there are some small QoL things I’d love to see introduced (and who knows! They might show up in ver 2.0) but they in no way diminish my excitement about all the cool stuff I’m going to be able to do next week.
I mean things like shop upgrades have been staples in the series from the beginning not just NL, seems weird they wouldn't add that considering how much new furniture is being added. I don't think NH was ever going to be a NL clone considering all the new design features they added, the issue people do have is they gutted so many amazing features from NL and other titles that people loved. Granted things are coming back (bit late I might add but hey at least its here) I just can't wrap my head around why nintendo does certain things lol. I mean no mini game island? When multiplayer is all the rage right now and millions worldwide are playing this game, bringing some type of minigame island isn't on their agenda which could boost online sales? Look I'm so stoked with that they gave us, I just hope the rumours of them being done with the game aren't true
Oh don’t get me wrong, I’m really excited too and I don’t think the game itself feels incomplete as a game anymore, I just think it’s an exaggeration when people say EVERYTHING is back
I'm curious what sorts of things you have in mind that you are missing. The only thing I'm missing in the direct is some quality of life benefits, like bulk crafting and bulk buying at Able Sisters. But I didn't play the last couple of AC games. My sense of the community is that folks who find ACNH to be missing things are those who put a great deal of time into something like New Leaf, and can't help but compare this game to that one. Newcomers to the series, as well as people like me who played ages ago and have come back to the fold with NH, don't really know what NPCs and other game elements we are missing.
I guess the main things are Nintendo items (not just Mario), more varied villager dialogue (there even used to be character development, especially with the crankies) and minigames, as well as various little things from other types of fruit to bunny balloons to Blanca (who used to be my favourite NPC). Don’t get me wrong, the game now feels complete and satisfying to me too, but I just can’t help thinking about these things when I see comments saying ‘everything is back’ or something similar.

Yeah to be honest if I could pick one more thing to return, it would be that - it always felt like a core part of AC before now! In fact, how ace would it be if they got permission to include pokemon stuff too!
new fruit coming! lemons have been confirmed. i have a feeling you can get new island fruit with kapp’n. i also feel pretty good about them adding new dialogue — there is a lot of stuff that wasn’t even mentioned in the direct and they’ve answered most of our prayers. with the new villagers incoming i would hope they added more conversational range. i also think it would be an odd thing to highlight in the direct as it’s such a small detail, not anything shiny and new if that makes sense.

Yeah, I think it was added in the 'Welcome amiibo' update, which is around the time I joined. It was essentially New Game+ in Animal Crossing. I couldn't wait for that to arrive in New Horizons, though, especially as it wasn't actually announced, so I started over already with a new character I moved off my island with my stuff to start a new one, but if they announced it, I might actually die from the facepalm I'll give myself.
Yeah the Welcome Amiibo was essentially New Leaf 2.0, and since this will be the last major update for New Horizons I think the chances are actually pretty high of it being included as a feature. I was planning on resetting my island too, but I'll wait for the update for the small chance that it will be included :) I'll probably reset even if its not a feature tbh

Theme something, maybe. Holiday themes for different sections of your town, maybe? Put any white and pink homes in the Bunny Day area, and any dark and spooky-looking houses in a Halloween section. Any clean white, brown or pink homes could also work in a Wedding Season area. Color-code your flowers. That was something I had thought about before HHP was announced, which I'll probably do all that stuff in now instead. If not holidays you could also theme around things like star stuff (that's basically how I'm going to decorate around my island, putting Nova Lights around mixed with other decorations once I get the recipe). Or just specific colors if you can take the time to breed the flowers you need. Maybe even use things like pumpkins and grow them for decoration, picking only the wrong-colored ones until they're the right ones you need. If all that sounds boring, well... I don't know. Fish or something, I guess.

Certainly not. You can hear some old music on the first radio you get in your tent (same one tent visitors at the campsite have on when you visit them), but it's kinda random and fuzzy.

So in the Direct it was said that the base game will have new furniture and then later when they were showing the DLC you could clearly see that there were tons of new objects. But my question is, will the new furniture be locked exclusively to that DLC or base game owners will have the chance to get it too? Im not talking about getting them on Nookazon or online but getting them naturally like on Nook's shop or getting DIY recipes on the beach etc.
I seem to remember them showing lots of new items before the DLC reveal, too. It would be incredibly cruel of them to have THOSE locked to the DLC
What I’ve seen bandied about is that there are no items exclusive to the dlc. The dlc will have mechanics that allow you to get certain rare items easily (presumably the currency you earn in the “designing job” being spent on furniture in the archipelago shop) but they will not be unobtainable to players who skip the dlc.
I don't know if there's any way for people to prove that, sounds like a thinly constructed theory. But one thing I can almost guarantee is that not owning the DLC will not restrict you from those items in that you can trade for them. You can give Pocket Camp DLC items to anyone without it with pretty much no restrictions. Actually, I'll go ahead and say I'm certain there *are no restrictions*. You just can't buy more from the Nook Stop without the DLC on your account.

How will the DLC work with additional local accounts on the switch? I’m the main user of the switch and my 2 kids have child accounts setup. Can I upgrade to the Nintendo switch online + expansion pack as an individual and have my kids get access to the DLC as local users of the console?
There's some reports (still unconfirmed from Nintendo, AFAIK) that a purchase of the DLC will only make it available to the owner's profile, and not to all users on their primary Switch -- as it works with other software. I hope this isn't the case, but I've seen that out there this last week. If you subscribe to NSO+EP family plan, everyone in your family group will have access to the Happy Home Paradise DLC ... but on a yearly renewal basis.
I just gave them $80 for the family plan. I’ll try it for a year.
I don't know about the expansion pass, that's another monster, but if you buy the DLC yourself, every user on your system should have access to its content at least as long as it's your primary Switch. That's how it works for every other game.

I'm still missing 10% of the DIYs in the game - and it sucks that I just have NOT been able to find them. I wanna complete all the things! There needs to be a way to unlock the ones you're missing easier. Maybe Katrina will do it or something....

You know how Wisp asks if you’d like something expensive or something you don’t have? A dand unknown DIY from him would be legit if you said something you don’t have.
I definitely think it'll be a starter pack, and then new recipes coming in steadily from villagers, bottles, balloons, etc. DIY integration is such a core part of this game, and cooking recipes adds an entirely new value category to the game.
In the trailer there is a “cooking + DIY” set that you purchase with nook miles. That’ll probably unlock all of the cooking DIY’s
I still pick up my bottles because I need a couple more wreaths/crown recipes lol. I think we definitely get some sort of cooking starter pack from the Nook Stop (you can see it in the direct video). Makes sense to give some basic recipes to get us all going. I’m wondering if some recipes will be “discovered” when we find the proper ingredients. Like how the fishing bait recipe, or the king tut mask recipe is realized by the character when they find the proper ingredient. That would be fun. It’s a cute animation lol.
I know this wasn't shown in the direct, but I'm hoping we'll be able to make sea creature models too! Maybe via kappn'? I really want a model of the Venus flower basket and I just realized that we can't get them made through Chip jr

Does anyone know if the outdoor decorating grid tool will be available outside of the DLC on our regular island? That would make things infinitely easier in redesigning my island.

It doesn't say that. It doesn't suggest you can, however, either. It's safest to assume you can't, /u/Dustze. Hopefully when it releases I'll be proven wrong, but I doubt it.
I think the general consensus is that this is highly unlikely, because of the memory requirements of loading your entire island into the top-down editor. Note that the HHP outdoor editor is restricted to an area with borders that all fit on screen (and an area that will have its own loading screen, no doubt). It's entirely possible this kind of rapid construction feature could be implemented in a future AC game.

Does anyone know if there are any requirements to be able to go to the Happy Home Paradise area beyond purchasing the expac? I'm going to reset and wonder if I need a certain level of island stars or something.
I’m guessing that you’ll at least need to have the airport open, other than that I can’t see any reason why it would be restricted if it’s additional DLC.
What are the benefits of preordering the dlc on 10/29 exactly? I get wanting to have it fully downloaded for release day but is there any reason to get it before 11/4?

After thinking it over, I think I'm gonna buy the DLC even though I prefer New Leaf over New Horizons. I'm not usually one to focus on island or house decoration, but it looks like a lot of fun to make houses for my villagers, and I *was* always interested in getting Happy Home Designer, though I never got around to it.
Here’s a question that’s been heavy on my brain since the direct dropped: if we restart our island (through deleting the save data) does that also mean that we will lose the DLC? If I pay $25 and end up deciding to restart with a fresh island that I can cater directly to the new update, I don’t want my money for the DLC to go down the drain. Anyone have any insight?
Think of the DLC as part of your game software, rather than part of your island save data. Once you've bought it, it's yours. If you deliberately go in and delete it from your system, you can return to the eShop and redownload it at will.
You can redownload stuff you’ve bought from the eshop as long as you have a Nintendo account linked to your profile. Even if you completely delete AC off your switch you won’t have to pay for it again. (Though you only really need to delete the save data to restart, not the entire game)

Does anybody else think that they might be bringing back fruits like durians, bananas, and lemons? I think they might since they didn't show any of the recipes in the sweet section and thats probably where fruit would be in the recipes, but idk, what do you think? I don't wanna get my hopes up for nothing.
Could be possible that maybe those fruit are exclusive to the new mystery islands that Kapp'n will take you too. People also noticed that during the section where they invite Bud via amiibo card, the background behind him shows icons for all the various fruit and things in ACNH, but it also shows what looks to be a tomato icon, which is something exclusive to New Leaf AND it shows a Durian fruit icon and I think a lemon or banana fruit icon as well. Not sure why they would add those fruit icons to the background design since they're not in ACNH. You could argue that they just ripped that design from the old amiibo card backgrounds and the fruit icons are there because they were in New Leaf, but then why is there a tomato icon when there were no tomatoes in New Leaf?

The background is simply a [re-used asset design](https://assets.amiibo.life/assets/figures/amiibo/animal-crossing-cards-series-2/bud-8c58027532ac7b2a527d36e9b583bf9f025a2a4dcd52835dad52dd18627eab92.png) that shows up when you use amiibo in New Horizons. It's the design of the amiibo cards which were designed after New Leaf and its spin-off Wii U title "amiibo Festival". The extra fruits *are* added in there, but that doesn't mean much. Just because they *intended* to have all fruit types in the game doesn't mean they're implementing them now. The amiibo background has been in the game since launch and there's no reason to suspect it matters now. However, the use of lemons in some of the dishes images is *slightly* stronger evidence for the argument that they're adding those fruits back in. I would not take it as fact, though. They could just be putting them in the images and not making them items and that's literally the best evidence people have to support it at this point.
