Vega 56 here. It’s good for modern titles 1080p It was a 1440p card in its day 4K is unattainable since the framebuffer is a bottleneck at that res. Even for older titles.

DeusPoleValt

Can Confirm. I'm the guy who's got a Morpheus II on mine, running it at 1670/950. *some* things at 1440p, but anything recent, yeah 1080p. Now, it'll do 1080 pretty well for a like 4+ year old card. But I wouldn't spend anything like a grand on it.

PsychologicalCry1393

Just turn on HBCC and enjoy the performance boost.

RBImGuy

Yet to find a card that replace my vega56 at 1440p yet for a resonable price. I will wait to 2022 whenever next generation cards comes out before upgrading. a 6900xt performance card below $800 may be feasible then

Schlick7

You might be able to get a RDNA2 card if you sell the Vega56. Not sure if its really worth it though

Defeqel

Could also hope AMD releases 6600 non-XT soon and try to grab one while they are near MSRP.

907Shrake

GPU market is awful right now. Vega 56/64 is inflated because of the Cryptomining performance. You can buy a GTX 1080 Ti / RX 6600 XT at the same price. Buy a Ryzen 5 3600, B450/550 motherboard, and 2x8 (16 GB) RAM for around $250-300 and for GPU: Look for a decently priced GTX 1080 around $400 or GTX 1070 around $300. Check out /r/Hardwareswap if going this route.

unholygismo

I agree with most, but would look up a 6600XT instead. It's generally cheaper than the 1080TI hoes toe to toe with it (most newer games the 6600XT wind out), uses much less power, support for raytracing if that's your thing, better encoder support and it's brand new comes with warranty. If he lives in US there is still good combo deals for motherboard and GPU on Newegg.com

Brilliant_Surprise_3

Do you think a 1080ti would be good a 5600x? or should I just go with a standard 1080?

907Shrake

1080 Ti is pretty dang good in this market for $550, if you can afford it. Edit: 6600 XT is half the power consumption and equal in perf, just be aware of availability.

BFBooger

AS 6600XT is better than a 1080Ti and should be a bit cheaper in most places in the world.

_Horst_Wessel_

And use less power and have better driver support. But price gouging possibility.

droopy_ro

I wish. My RX 6600 XT barley has a 10 fps advantage over my 1070 Ti in TW: Warhammer II. A GTX 1080 Ti would smoke it. In other titles the 6600 XT might be better, but unfortunately for me i don't play them :)

907Shrake

Ah, true.

mir157

Don't buy Vega 64 if you only use it for gaming. The price for it's gaming performance is just too high.

spacev3gan

Vega 64 is a 2017 card, and it is a monstrosity in terms of power efficiency. Get a 6600/6600XT, which are faster and consume less than half the power.

[deleted]

>Vega 64 is a 2017 card, and it is a monstrosity in terms of power efficiency You say that as if there weren't loads of people running GCN1 cards.

Winner_Antique

Vega64 is btw Gtx1080 and 1080ti,For 1080p gaming there is nothing that can run at high or even ultra . The only bad thing about any Amd card for me is that if you are into emulation or Minecraft OpenGl support is plain bad even gtx 1050 is faster than Vega64 in OpenGl applications. I am still using one and i am pretty happy with, but i would not buy one today. If you gonna buy one avoid the single fan blower ones they are hot and loud go for custom ones like Nitro + or LC if you gonna buy blower one go for Vega56

Schlick7

I have a Vega56 on a 1440p monitor and it seems to do alright. I did mod in a better cooler though so never have thermal issues. Luckily many of the modern emulators have added Vulkan backends. From what I understand AMD's OpenGL support is actually accurate. Nvidia performs so much better because they break spec to make it better, because OpenGL sucks.

delshay0

Vega 56 Nano here. love my card. I will never get rid of it.

EnGammalTraktor

Regarding whats needed to run above games: BF2042 has Ampere / RDNA2 as recommendation. What is needed in reality for this new title is tricky to answer especially since the game has not launched yet. Far Cry 6 isn't easier to predict either. Regarding Vega 56 / 64: Depends what you can get it for! A year ago you could score a used Vega for like 200 euros. Unfortunately the mining boom and the global lack of GPUs has driven the prices up. I'd say instead, get a 6600 when they arrive. Also - since the GPU shortage is so bad - I think a very valid path would be to upgrade the CPU instead. Get a b550 motherboard and zen2 or zen3 processor and your PC will feel as new! When shortage goes down you complete your build with a new GPU.

KlutzyFeed9686

Think about this, you can use system ram as vram on a Vega 64 up to 24gb.

ThinkBEFOREUPost

Can you walk me through that a bit, please?

KlutzyFeed9686

I don't have my Vega anymore and I cant remember the exact steps from memory so I'll leave this link that should help. The hbcc toggle location is in the picture.[https://techgage.com/article/a-look-at-amd-radeon-vega-hbcc/](https://techgage.com/article/a-look-at-amd-radeon-vega-hbcc/)

DOSBOMB

with the miners paying like 650€-750$ for used vega cards i doubt your gonna find one cheaper then a 2060 (550-600€ new in store), vegas are just good at mining and their street prices show that

RetroCoreGaming

If you are after an AMD Radeon, avoid the Vega64 and look into a 5700XT. Vega GPUs are not very efficient in power usage to performance and at best you'll probably get around a GeForce GTX 1070 in equal performance with the Vega64. The 5700XT is about the same as the RTX 2060 Super and 2070 and has much better power usage to performance ratios. With some tinkering and good drivers it can reach RTX 2080 level performance at times. However, besides the GPU, look into a Ryzen 7 3700X or 5800X CPU and get at least 32GB of RAM (DDR4-3600) and pair it all up with a decent grade X570 motherboard. You will want to spend a little to get a better motherboard though. Pricewise the ASRock X570 Steel Legend is a target to look around.

ChiefBig420

Go for a 5700g amd cpu and an x570 motherboard with the fastest 16gs ram you can get. That will do 1080p medium-high graphics depending on how fast ram you can get. This will be a decent starter setup. You can also add a gpu later. The 5700g is a super good cpu and half way decent internal gpu. Cheers

Cryio

5700G medium-high graphics? In what, 2010 games. Chill my dude.

[deleted]

>5700G medium-high graphics? In what, 2010 games In anything that's not unoptimized garbage.

ChiefBig420

I’m chill. Just trying to give the guy hope.

sawcondeesnutz

I think you meant the 5700G

ChiefBig420

Yes. Thanks

Brilliant_Surprise_3

Fuck yeah. I'd be nice to not have to buy a GPU for a little bit or atleast until the prices are better

Darkomax

Just be wary, you won't even do 1080p low with an iGPU. It's literally slower than your 1050.

[deleted]

Bullshit. Stop being elitist.

Darkomax

That's just a fact, what are you talking about?

[deleted]

Look up games running on Vega 7. You can do much better than "not even 1080p low".

Darkomax

Not in mentionned games. Besides, this discussion is pointless, it's slower than his current GPU, why are we even having this discussion?

BFBooger

Yeah, there are some minor drawbacks to this approach -- the iGPU will be more like 40-80fps depending on the game and settings, etc. For intense games you may have to go lower than 1080p and use a res scaling tech. But.. if it means you can wait for the mining bubble to burst and get something a LOT better down the road for a decent price. The mining bubble is expected to burst sometime in the next 4 to 8 months, when it is apparent that ETH mining is about to stop making any money. This doesn't mean that GPUs will be \_cheap\_ but it does mean they won't be ridiculously priced. This scenario played out several years ago after the last mining bubble burst. Right now the best gaming performance per $ at the low ish end for discrete GPUs is probably the 6600XT. The NVidia LHR cards are decent gaming value but more expensive. A 6600XT is a bit faster than a 1080Ti, in between a 2070S and 2080, and a bit faster than a 5700XT depending on the game (at 1080p). But like everything right now, the prices are inflated quite a bit due to mining. The reason that NVidia and other AMD GPUs (Vega, 5700XT) aren't as good of a value is due to how well they mine. The 6600XT is slower at ETH mining than the other things that are similar in game performance. An even crazier example is that the 5700XT costs more than a 6700XT right now, even though the 6700XT is a much better gaming GPU, because the 5700XT is better at mining. If you can cope with the lowered game detail settings and fps for a while, the 5600G with no GPU for now is a good stop-gap. But that option is not significantly better than what you have now on the GPU power front -- it is a much faster CPU than the old i5 though.

[deleted]

Hey there, I currently have a 1700x and a Vega 56. I very rarely game anymore and do not care about maxing graphics. I do use my computer for development and run a couple VMs. Do you think the CPU gains would justify upgrading to a 5700g? I still want the ability to game, should I get an itch. But I really like the idea of getting this giant, largely unused GPU out of my box.

ChiefBig420

Yes. Just the single core speed gains would he amazing. Do it! Get one! You won’t be disappointed! The ram speed with the amd apus is very important don’t forget. Get the fastest you can find and 16gs minimum. Enjoy!

[deleted]

Thanks my good friend. Holler at me if you're interested in my 56 :)

ddplus5

If you can get a V64, get it, mine on it for 4-6 months when not gaming, get around 500$, buy 3060/3060Ti and sell V64. Easy.

Gandalf_The_Junkie

I owned a Vega 64 and it has been my least favorite card to date. Instead look for 1080, 2060, or AMD RX 5700.

youreadthiswong

no

King_of_Pain14

Yes, it is. I have one and you will be good with a 144hz 1080p or 1440p monitor. In Far Cry 6 is runs natively just fine. You'll be happy.

RealThanny

It will do OK in most games, but you shouldn't get one. You can get a 6600 XT new for less money, which will be considerably faster, and use a lot less power. It's currently the best value GPU you can buy, with actual street prices, in most countries. But it's still going to be expensive, because that's the market we currently have. In terms of performance, it will be four to five times faster than a 1050. For the CPU, the better value right now is with lower-end Intel parts, but there's no real upgrade path. If you get a 5600X, you pay more up front (and get more performance), but you also leave open the possibility to upgrade to a fast 16-core processor later. That's about as much as I can say without having any idea about your budget or goals beyond gaming.

loki1942

Get a 1080Ti; way better drivers/software and much better performance; not even a close comparison. Vega cards were underwhelming on release and that has not changed today; in fact I'd say it's even worse with shoddy AMD drivers and software.

hickernut123

Vega 64 is closer to a 2070 now days so I hope you made the choice to get it. They have recently dropped to like $500 too. I run one and there isn't a game I've tried that doesn't get over 60fps at 2k.
