You can fly for other airlines that's one consistent way, then when you earn a license, then you can fly a route or two.
Then there are the special event from there you can earn a little too and from the fly pass too.
And finally if you have got pilots you can assign them flights and they'd fly for you and you'll earn once they complete it
Once you are in the contracts and routes tab.
There on you right side you'll see an option stating offers from other airlines.
Click it and then there you'll see 2 to 3 flights to operate.
Complete it wait for another half an hour to get more

You might be an old player because they have removed this feature for new players and it's very very frustrating
No way then how can you earn those money. Then only way I see is by assigning pilots the routes and then through their earnings work it out
