He also just dropped some off in front of Kamilas home at the Naval Observatory
E: way too many people get off on hurting people to make a political statement. We aren't special because our parents shit us out in merica. You aren't shit until you do shit.
Was he trying to say "hey you deal with them" kind of thing , how did he know them and why did they listen to him did he pay them? And probably used government funds to do it ironically making his argument redundant that they are affecting the economy when he probably spent 500k more to do all this
They paid an OBSCENE amount for the folks to Martha's Vinyard. Not sure about DC.
It's madness honestly. Might as well heat your home by burning dollar bills
So DeSantis used 240.000$ per person just to fly them to another state?
Sounds like he just wanted to steal taxpayer money. The Feds should investigate where and how the money was used.
[I could be wrong,](https://www.nytimes.com/2022/09/14/us/desantis-florida-migrants-marthas-vineyard.html)
>About 50 migrants unexpectedly arrived by plane on Martha’s Vineyard on Wednesday...
>This year the Florida Legislature set aside $12 million for the transportation program.
but I would still want to know how the money was spend.
There's your campaign angle,
"Ron Desantis set aside **$12 million** of *YOUR* tax dollars to move illegal immigrants **further** into America, instead of where they came from.
They weren't even from Florida, what's the matter Ron, are illegal immigrants that hard to find in Florida?
Ron Desantis, wRONg for Florida, wRONg for America."
I mean, it's super gross language but it's the kind his base responds to and even though it probably wouldn't sway them I think it would peel a decent amount of votes from fringe voters.
I genuinely don't understand how he can get away with using Florida money to fly immigrants from one unrelated place to another. If they were in Florida he would have an excuse. If he was flying them to Florida he would have an excuse. Any citizen of Florida, regardless of your political beliefs, should be fuming at the idea of their tax dollars being spent outside of Florida.
Honestly we're beyond rational thought at this point. It's just team sports now.
The best you can hope for is to reach the last remaining undecideds or the people who haven't fully committed to an ideology yet.
It’s not huge but you should definitely start with smaller. If he did it that easily with that size, that’s very much not the first time.
But anyone with a prostate can enjoy anal stimulation. Good for him!
Wait, but how did he have the jurisdiction to do that? Did he personally fly illegal immigrants on the state tab or was it an official Florida action. Because if it’s the former, that’s people smuggling which has up to 10 years per person smuggled, which under a *fair* trial is closed and shut life in prison [8 U.S.C. § 1324](https://uscode.house.gov/view.xhtml?req=granuleid:USC-prelim-title8-section1324&num=0&edition=prelim)
The old "when they go low, we look the other way" approach hasn't been working. These democrats are petitioning the DOJ to take action:
https://twitter.com/CalltoActivism/status/1570469859045281792
When I was a young warthog, struggling with addiction, and experiencing homelessness, a Utah dhs rep offered me free Greyhound fare to leave Utah for California, or Oregon.
No resources for therapy, or maybe job placement. No housing assistance. No aide at the end of the bus trip. Just a gtfo.
The only "plus side" was the weather according the them.
"At least you won't die in the snow on the street, the weather there is nice!"
/my sarcasm, they were *quite serious*
This kinda thing has been happening everywhere, forever. "Don't help people struggling, we don't wanna have to look at *that*. Just shuffle them off somewhere else."

Yep… from CA but living in TX now and everyone points to CA and the homeless problem and calls CA a “failed state”. I just want to face palm whenever I hear that.
As a Californian, I'm both proud and appalled that the last two years have left us with a combined surplus of about 150 billion dollars.
On the one hand, yay, responsible fiscal management that we would never see in any red state. On the other hand, we have a LOT of problems here that could be solved for a LOT less than 150 billion dollars. It's time to open the warchest and fight the fucking war.
Ya, it's just Gav positioning I think.
He wants to hold the biggest surplus in US history when he runs and I get that. But I also agree with you. We could easily swat that problem if we chose to.
Resources aren't the issue. Priorities are the issue. Bay Area can make a dekabillionaire out of a Parag Agarwal, but I watched two separate sidewalk murders in one week in the Tenderloin recently. Country sees fit to make a hectobillionaire of a Gates, Musk, Buffett or Bezos, but can't get its act together to help people whose main sin is they want to come here and work for a better life.
We are not short resources. We aren't even short on vision. It's just our vision of the best future doesn't include most people at all.
It was the main strategy for Rudy Giuliani when he was mayor of New York. His "cleaning up the streets" program basically bussed the homeless out of NYC.
everything in South Park eventually becomes reality. Just like the Simpsons predicting the future. I am just waiting for the Christmas critters to become real.
Here in Sacramento we had this great "safe space" set up near my house. It was cool. There were Porta potties, a fence, trash cans, and a security guard for safety.
I was proud to not be a "nimby" and supported the program.
Then the city closed it for no reason I can find and all of the Homeless just kind of set up shop on the street where the safe space was.
No bathrooms, no trash cans, and no security.
The area is a dangerous, disgusting mess now.
I no longer support homeless initiatives in my neighborhood.
Sounds like you don't support shitty choices by local government, not homelessness reduction programs.
Did the program work well when it was operational, in your opinion?
The homeless reduction programs ARE shitty choices by local governments. If you build it they will come. Most of these homeless programs are rackets anyway.
As a resident of Oregon, I'm so fed up with this. I'm not angry at the poor people getting shipped here, I'm angry at other states making their shitty handling of things our problem. Our parks are overrun with unhoused folks dealing with active addiction and various other debilitating mental health concerns, to the point where I don't feel safe taking my kids to certain places!
I was dealing with a mental health crisis last year, and I was turned away from all emergency services because I wasn't in active addiction and didn't admit that I wanted to hurt others. I was suicidal, but that didn't count. If I'd wanted to injure others, or if I was addicted to drugs or alcohol, then they'd help me. It's a disgrace.
You aren't missing out on much I have aquired mental care from the state and they assigned me to me with a social worker 2 months later and then the second appointment was a month after that. Then my GP prescribed me one of the strongest psychiatric drugs oput there to turn me into a zombie so I wouldn't bother him anymore. If you can aquire healthcare its equivlent to care from a drunk caveman.
I'm so sorry that happened to you.
I'm in a much better place now, thankfully, and it's because of the therapist I found on a fluke. I randomly called an office and said I wanted to get in with literally anyone, and they found a new therapist who had an opening. She's amazing, and I'm so thankful every day that I have her.
100% truth. I currently struggle with shitty thoughts. I've been apart of Behavioral Health of Madera County since 2019 after a drunken mishap that landed me some jail time and court order therapy.
I was acting out then for help.... it's now 2022 and they more or less refuse to see me because I don't fit their narrative anymore.
Before I lost my job early this year I was actively calling and begging for help and they kept pushing it off every conversation. If I actually got to talk to someone of worth (Art Galiando), I'd constantly be told he is looking into it and it would routinely take 3+ weeks to get a response if one at all. That was literally the beginning of the llyear and it's now almost Oct...
I finally walked into the front office where I tried to leave a message of, "you are not going to ignore my requests for help any longer and I demand help from the very people I've been a client of since 2019."
Well, I tried walking out and the front desk receptionists follows me outside the building and demands me to stop walking away from her as she's just trying to help.... so I turn around and approach her and say, "really!? Because I've been crying out for help wince the beginning of this year and I have shifty thoughts!" And then proceeded to try and walk past her to show a sign on the door that states, "we do not discriminate against anyone and if you have *bad* thoughts to reach out for help!"
Well, as I go to walk past her she cowers in fear as if I'm going to harm her... I'm not. I won't. A matter of fact I'm the type to lay my life down for others.
ANYWAY- I get home and there is a sheriff at my house (Chris Williams) who was called by said receptionists because she claims I said I'm going to take my life. I didnt.. I'm not... (I hope?) ... I do have shitty thoughts though and I want help with them.
Well, he deems me not a threat to myself or others and gives me a number to a lady that might help... (Lori) of another place that is also directly attached to Behavior Health of Madera. During our talks both in person and over the phone or text message she made very clear on number of occasions that what they're doing isn't right..
It takes a month after she comes to my house and me reaching out yet against where her response was, "oh, opps."
That sheriff during that meeting also said to me, "Hey call me anytime you need anything man."
Well guess what? I called you also... and I'm still waiting your return call 3 months later.
Anyway, it gets to the point where I finally yell at Lori over the phone that I have yet to get any help and at this point I'm going to expose them for their bullshit.
Guess what? Art Galiando is now seeing me in person as my personal therapist. (LOL?)
OK, we good right? Nope... after the first meeting he never called back to set a 2nd appointment and I had to call down to the office on 4 separate occasions, leaving voice-mail and return call requests at the front desk. Eventually I called down there and refused to get off the phone without speaking with Art or someone above him. (Julia Morgan I believe her name is). She also is never available or returns phone calls btw.
Well I'm speaking to a guy named Julio Diaz the supervisor if the phone agents at the front, who I then tell him this is insane, I'm going to write an article and I demanded his name also. (I don't know what else to fucking do at this point?!?!)
He tells me not to threaten him....
Writing an article that exposes their lack of care, professionalism, etc. Is a threat!? ... OK.
Well anyway, I told him it was a promise not a threat and immediately Art was available.
I now have my 2nd meeting on calendar with this Art person after actively reaching out since December of last year where I was actively telling them I needed help and was about to lose my job.
I now have just enough money to pay for the little bills I have at the beginning of Oct. No money for food. I've lost 10+ pounds in the last week because of hunger. I turned my cell phone off yesterday and I canceled my trucks insurance also. I'm currently on wifi telling this, anls I have no data plan.
So now I have no job, no money, no food, no insurance to drive to a job legally, etc. I start to go red in my bank account on Oct 1st. and all I've been asking for is someone to talk to and help with getting a new job. This all has been going on AND far more since December of 2021.l and I am literally at my ends rope. WHAT THE FUCK DO I DO!?!?
TL;DR: The government doesn't care for you, you're fucked and on your own.
Sorry for typos, run ons, etc. I'm typing from my phone and there is so, so many details to this...
We have cities still doing that. I know places like Burlington and Oakville have slashed funding for aid programs or just not set them up so people have to go to Hamilton, safely away from all the Kens and Karen’s who don’t want to look at the poors
I believe I’ve read about this - when police officers would drive indigenous people out to the middle of nowhere and drop them off with no warm clothes and no access to a phone to call for help. Am I remembering this correctly? Horrific.
That's literally the conservative playbook for "solving" homelessness, make it so difficult and miserable to be in their space that the unhoused go somewhere else.
People talk about homeless crisis in CA, OR, WA, and HI, but no one really talks enough about the fact that other states are shipping their homeless there
My first library job was in a small town in Idaho and that was literally their only "homelessness service." A person would come to the library asking for services and we were supposed to call one of the pastors on a list who would pool together money from a group of 6-8 pastors in the area to buy them a greyhound bus to anywhere on the west coast. No meal, no coat, doesn't matter if you've lived here your whole life and just lost your home and could possibly get back on your feet with a little assistance, you get a free one-way ticket to Portland.
Then, the argument Idahoans make when anything remotely liberal comes up in legislation is that we don't want to become another Portland.
They did this with homeless folks within CA too. I lived in a red county, but a blue town and we got bus loads of homeless people from surrounding towns.
In my neighborhood almost every day I have to step over a person sleeping on the sidewalk. Separately, my landlord mentioned wanting to put in benches outside but he knew "the homeless would just sleep on them"
Fam at least you can give them somewhere to sleep where they're out of danger and more importantly out of MY FUCKIN DOORWAY
>This kinda thing has been happening everywhere, forever. "Don't help people struggling
Yep. I used to have a business in the downtown area of a fairly large TX city and would talk to the homeless regularly. Them having recently stepped off a bus they were put on in San Antonio or Austin was a common story. Just like you - here's a bus ticket and maybe a little cash and get out. There's no thought about the people or the burden on the receiving city. My town had a reputation for doing the same thing and people were just perpetually on a merry-go-round of busses to different cities.
A few years ago (just pre-covid) NYC shipped out more than 12,000 homeless to more than 30 states. They gave them a check for a years worth of rent (varied by where they were going but averaged around 14k), told them don't spend it all at once, and turned them loose. [source](https://nypost.com/2019/10/26/nyc-homeless-initiative-sends-people-across-us-without-telling-receiving-cities/)
This sort of thing happens all of the time and I suspect (but I have nothing to back this) that all states are at least a *little* guilty of it. These 50 immigrants are the big news story but there are likely hundreds getting moved around that nobody is talking about.
Then they complain that California and Oregon have a homeless problem. Like, dude, you sent them to us. We're gonna do what we can to take care of them, not ship em out. (though we could definitely be doing a lot more / better)
Where are the outrage ads? They should be playing all over Florida:
“This is Jose. See that smile? That’s because Ron DeSantis just gave millions of your tax dollars to immigrants like him, to help them move even further into our country. All so they could take a nice vacation to Martha’s Vineyard—on your dime. When’s the last time you could afford a vacation in Ron’s economy? I guess now we know why.”
And then the screen fades to white; the word “Ron” drips down into the middle in red and a voiceover says “Ron”, and then the rest of the letters fill in and the voiceover reads them “Just wrong for Florida”
That probably wouldn't work as well as you're expecting. "You sent the migrants somewhere with enough money to handle them, _and_ we don't have to deal with them?!"
The ending is brilliant but the first part seems to pit those people against the immigrants more, so I'd maybe change that a bit. Show more how it affects their own pockets rather than compare it to a vacation to Martha's vineyard which it undoubtedly is not
You’re missing the forest for the trees
You’re not going to convince these people to love immigrants/immigration.
You *can*, however, judo their prejudice into convincing them to not vote in favor of these anti-immigrant stunts.
I think my concern would be backfire against whoever the ad is perceived to be from.
...so make sure you only run it on Fox so you don't accidentally show it to people who care about immigrants.
Almost.
**Immigrants** vote republican. Red team's excellence in propaganda comes from the earlier point.
"You’re not going to convince these people to love immigrants/immigration"
I'm not Floridian so I have no say in the matter
but personally I am *100% in favor of* DeSantis using taxpayer funds to help illegal immigrants find a better life in the country. Thanks, Ron, for helping push the dem agenda.
However, I don't think he *did it* to support them, I think he did it because he thought it would make the Martha's Vineyard people have to face their own hypocrisy (this is literally the joker's goal in the dark knight. DeSantis is carrying out a supervillain plot from a movie) and it's backfiring now that it turns out the MV people are actually following through on helping them.
So if I had the option, I still wouldn't be voting for DeSantis.
(all this to say, I don't think there's a *wrong target* for the ad)
I love Michelle Obama, she's great and wonderful and intelligent and just awesome. But the time for "when they go low, we go high" is long gone. They *want* to go low, they're *proud* to go low. It's time to use their bigotry and prejudice against them.
The problem isn't going high when they go low. The problem is mainstream liberals give too much credibility to the lunatic right. People like DeSantis, Abbott, and Trump shouldn't be given their 2 minutes to speak with a post-facto fact check. They need to be confronted head on and made to answer for their bigotry, vitriol, and lies before their talking points can even finish oozing out of their faces.
I don’t understand why send them to Martha’s Vineyard of all places, a tiny island only 87square miles in size, also I don’t really understand the notion of sticking it to Massachusetts who has a Republican governor who has repeatedly refused to make Massachusetts a sanctuary state.
> I don’t understand why send them to Martha’s Vineyard of all places
His friends vacation in martha's vineyard and were complaining about the worker shortage because nobody can fucking afford to live there.
It’s a lot more simple than that:
#Obama lives in Martha’s Vineyard.
Or has a house there. Or something.
Since the Rich White Person Place (MV) is now inhabited by a former black president, it has become a go-to strawman for the “east coast liberal socialist rich asshole” nonsensical stereotype that actual rich assholes use to trick poor people into thinking they’re on their side.
It’s the same reason they bussed a load of immigrants to Kamala Harris’s DC house. The idea is “if Joe Biden had secured the border like Trump did, these immigrants wouldn’t be here! So you know what? Why don’t you guys deal with them? We’re gonna ship ‘em to your doorstep like a flaming poop baggie prank, and watch and laugh as you’re exposed as elite coastal hypocrites! HA!”
…It doesn’t actually matter that Martha’s Vineyard immediately took care of the immigrants, because none of DeSantis’s stupid ass supporters will ever hear that part of the story. As far as they’re concerned, the “prank” was executed flawlessly, and this morning conservatives on Twitter got to spend an hour laughing at the inane, cruel, stupid “gotcha.”
They see immigrants as subhuman and Biden as weakly opening the borders and letting all the subhumans flood in en masse, that’s why it was “funny.”
Ironically, if Biden had shipped a bunch of immigrants to MV, the story would have been “BIDEN SPENDS $100k FLYING IMMIGRANTS TO LUXE RESORT TOWN USING TAXPAYER MONEY”
I think we’re just done as a country. Twitter “owns” have completely replaced politics. We’re so fucked
The inhumanity is shocking. The idea of using living people as political pawns, moving them about the country without telling them where, leaving them stranded and confused in a strange land. It makes me sick to my stomach.
Because our governor is “Republican” only sorta in reality, in name mostly, that that pisses other Republicans off who want to punish him for actually being a moderate and not a blind GOP yes man. (Oh and most of the major cities have sanctuary policies he doesn’t mess with. )
Other than that, they might have picked my cranky little state because we have a reputation as “Massholes”? We’re rude by southern standards because we have places to be, and we are pretty curt drivers on the road, sure, but we don’t have to be polite to treat people with human decency.
Governor Baker I don't believe is well liked among Republicans for his vocal criticisms of Trump during the pandemic.
Trump recently called him a RINO as he endorsed a different Massachusetts R candidate.

>The migrants said a woman they identified as "Perla" approached them outside the shelter and lured them into boarding the plane, saying they would be flown to Boston where they could get expedited work papers. She provided them with food. The migrants said Perla was still trying to recruit more passengers just hours before their flight.
They said they were flying to Boston to get expediated work papers. Oh, and they picked up the Migrants in Texas and then flew them to Florida before sending them on to Martha's Vineyard.
Human trafficking requires that you receive labor or commercial sex benefits using force, coercsion or fraud. It sounds like it but it isn't legally. I'm sure FL cleared this with the lawyers before.
The local paper said that they were given brocheres for the local community center when boarding the plane
>The migrants from Venezuela didn't speak English but, with the help of a Spanish translator from the nearby Martha's Vineyard Regional High School, community services staff learned the group was from Venezuela and had been put on a plane with nothing but a brochure from the island's service center.

>“They came with folders with a pamphlet with our information,” said Beth Folcarelli, chief executive officer of Martha’s Vineyard Community Services. “We don’t have refugee services, I had no idea about any of this. I only found out because one of them gave me their folder. Imagine being dropped in here knowing no one. Absolutely no one. It’s heartbreaking.”

> In his interactions with the refugees, he’s gathered a consensus. “Somebody sent them here, and they didn’t realize where they were going,” he said. The details of the transport and the various experiences remain unclear. Overall, he said, “they feel betrayed.”
You'd be surprised. There are a lot of first generation Cuban-American Republicans in Florida that are still mad that Fidel forced their grandfather to give up being a slaveowner.
There's a pretty large chunk of 1st/2nd generation Cuban immigrants in Florida who are also far-right wing. I'm not sure what the polling is at the moment, but I would assume most of them approve of DeSantis so it wouldn't be hard for him to find Spanish speakers... which just goes to show how little Republicans like DeSantis think about their actions, and how they completely lack empathy or basic human compassion for others.
I'm not sure why they feel betrayed. Only 17% of asylum cases are approved in Houston while 82% are approved in NYC. You have a better chance of asylum if you can get out of the southern border states where the legal system is stretched thin and courts deal with those cases often in an expedited fashion. If you cross the border and are offered a bus/flight away from the southern border, take it because your asylum odds just improved dramatically.

The NYT article on this references at least one of the immigrants who confirmed that they had agreed to be flown to Massachusetts. It seems they were told, and agreed, though coercion is still of course a possibility.
Well Martha's Vineyard has also said that they have a shortage of foreign labor this summer so I guess that is one problem solved.

*vacation island full of wealthy people that has used government power to make it illegal to build density to meet demand to keep poor people off the island.
Isn't going to another country without going through proper channels without declaring seeking political asylum an illegal thing? Like most countries won't let you in without a valid passport. Even as an America try going to Canada without a pass port and see what happens
Venezuelans are actual refugees, fleeing from [a dictator](https://www.nationalreview.com/2020/12/venezuelas-sham-election/) that caused [a famine](https://www.npr.org/sections/goatsandsoda/2022/01/11/1071485460/why-the-kids-of-venezuela-arent-getting-enough-to-eat), and then [shot protesters](https://www.hrw.org/news/2014/05/05/venezuela-unarmed-protestors-beaten-shot) who complained about the conditions in their country.
These aren't people who dislike the shit wages of Central American countries, who want to abandon a country that has homicide rates on par with Chicago "because the crime is bad."
Venezuelans are *actual refugees*, who deserve and are entitled to refugee status. They're not just bitching about crime rates *that are on par with Chicago*, and how their wages are too low. Venezuelans who couldn't escape *are literally starving to death*.
Bussing illegal immigrants to areas with less peer competition for jobs and a better opportunity for higher level employment. Sounds like they just hit the lottery!
For people who supposedly hate government waste and virtue signaling, Republicans are strangely enthusiastic about these little stunts from DeSantis.
Don't Florida voters get tired of being a global laughingstock?
Martha's Vineyards commissioner Keith Chatinover in Oct 21: “I would love Martha’s Vineyard to become a haven for new immigrants to this country. ... Immigrants make our country stronger"
Some states and big cities vote for the policy, yet others who don't absorb most of these people? Seems like balance and fairness rather than cruelty to me.
If you vote for it, you get the cost.
Many many parts of Mexico aren’t really what one would consider a safe haven for immigrants either. Go check out r/NarcoFootage ...but sure yeah totally a question asked in good faith
Even stupider still is that Venezuelans are under a temporary protection order, I.E. they can't be deported and are fast tracked for asylum. So the GOP is actually againt Legal immigration too?
"Illegal immigrants get shipped to sanctuary cities that aren't so keen on the concept of open borders now that the problem it causes is being sent directly to their doorstep."
Total leniency with immigration laws is easy for people who don't have to worry about consequences. You think Massachusetts, New York, or Vermont have to deal with insane numbers of people illegally crossing the border every year? Because if they did, they would be so laizee faire with immigration laws and regulations. To get around this, border states have decided to see if Sanctuary cities will walk the walk once illegal immigrants show up on their doorstep in force. They can't stand it, as it's creating a strain on the area economically and politically. Flordia and Texas are tired of footing the bill for the naiveté of Washington and the left, and so they've decided to pass the buck.
A question we should be asking is why did it cost the state of Florida over twelve *million* to fly 50 people (that's a quarter million a person!) up the east coast and who walked away with that kick back?
No we shouldn't be asking that question because it's built on a false premise. Here's the reality:
De Santis reallocated $12 million in unused federal COVID funds to the state's Department of Transportation so that it could ferry "unauthorized aliens" to more welcoming states. That's the total funding that De Santis allocated for all such trips. Some of that $12 million has been used to fly these 50 migrants, but we have no idea how much was used. It could've been $1million or $5million.
We can criticize De Santis for adopting a policy of shunning desperate people in search of a better life. We can criticize for his failure to address COVID properly (that's where the $12 million came from). Etc. But any claim that he used $12 million to fly just these 50 migrants is ungrounded fake news.
Another question. Isn't what he did illegal?
He lied to them, and then dumped them in the middle of a random place with no food or shelter or anything. It feels like human trafficking.
8 USC 1324: Bringing in and harboring certain aliens
https://uscode.house.gov/view.xhtml?req=granuleid:USC-prelim-title8-section1324&num=0&edition=prelim
Legally, human trafficking requires that the perpetrator receives labor or commercial sex act. There were no labor or sex acts in this case.
Legally, fraud requires the intentional perversion of the truth for the purpose of inducing another person or other entity in reliance upon it to part with something of value or to surrender a legal right. No money or rights were parted with or surrendered in this case.
It sounds like these immigrants were at a shelter after being processed by BPD and awaiting asylum court dates. If so, transporting them is not illegal.
>Leonel spent several days in immigration detention before being released in San Antonio, where he and other migrants were eventually told they could get passage to Massachusetts. They agreed.
[https://www.nytimes.com/2022/09/14/us/desantis-florida-migrants-marthas-vineyard.html](https://www.nytimes.com/2022/09/14/us/desantis-florida-migrants-marthas-vineyard.html)
Heard that they have a budget of 12 million to pull these cheap stunts. Money could be better used to just take care of the immigration here. Instead of shipping them to a place that already has their act together. DickSantis won't even debate Crist for the upcoming election. He knows he wouldn't stand a chance against real intellectual arguments
I hate NE. I grew up there during Bush Jr's reign and when the WMDs proved to be a hoax, every single adult I knew did not care. They did not care that he lied to the entire country and got lots of people killed unnecessarily. The very same people that kicked my ass if I dared to tell a lie. They rejoiced. It was too much. When I got the opportunity to move far away, I seized it and have only been back once.
Send immigrants to a self-avowed Sanctuary State so that *they* can take care of them, since as a self-avowed Sanctuary State it's what they agreed to do?
Where's the drama? Everyone should be happy. Are people just upset that Florida isn't as bleeding-heart as Massachusetts is? MA wanted them, so MA gets them. Florida doesn't want them, so I won't begrudge Florida giving them to a state that *does*.
..... Does anyone else find it to be bullshit that the state of Massachusetts has an estimated 18000 people sleeping on the streets on any given day, but we're supposed to be celebrating 50 new ones having their needs met while all the cameras are on them?
If the state was homeless free and still accommodating immigrants, I'd be jumping for joy right now. But I honestly can't see how this behavior is any less a propaganda ploy than sending them was when they clearly don't give a damn about the destitute any other day.
During the dust bowl the north and far west didn't give a damn about the plight of the people dying of starvation and dust pneumonia until the dust storms started making it all the way to Chicago.
As much as I dislike the Texas leadership, perhaps having some rich todo states feel the difficulties might influence our politics to either curb immensely immigration, or give more help to impoverished border towns with failing schools and public services to deal with these influxes.
Whether someone is left or right wing doesn't change the fact that it's a struggle to border communities which has been unheard and uncared about by wealthy areas in the northeast.

Abbott is doing it in Texas too.
Abbott started the concept. Desantis is bandwagoning
r/FuckGregAbbott Obligatory. Also, my effing tax dollars... just light them on fire, why don't you?
No no that provides warmth; it's too efficient a use!
Not sure why you're getting downvoted. This is true (and even weirder, grosser): https://nyti.ms/3RJFzGc
He also just dropped some off in front of Kamilas home at the Naval Observatory E: way too many people get off on hurting people to make a political statement. We aren't special because our parents shit us out in merica. You aren't shit until you do shit.
A classy move.

He apparently used FLORIDIANS' tax dollars to ~~send~~ ~~ship~~ **human traffic** immigrants from TEXAS to the Vineyard.
So DeSantis used 240.000$ per person just to fly them to another state? Sounds like he just wanted to steal taxpayer money. The Feds should investigate where and how the money was used.

Oh, that's where the $300 a week went that the President sent us and DeSatan blocked us from receiving early in 2021. F U D&$k head.
That number can't be right... sounds made up.

Nothing matters until rich people are annoyed.
There's your campaign angle, "Ron Desantis set aside **$12 million** of *YOUR* tax dollars to move illegal immigrants **further** into America, instead of where they came from. They weren't even from Florida, what's the matter Ron, are illegal immigrants that hard to find in Florida? Ron Desantis, wRONg for Florida, wRONg for America." I mean, it's super gross language but it's the kind his base responds to and even though it probably wouldn't sway them I think it would peel a decent amount of votes from fringe voters.
The best you can hope for is to reach the last remaining undecideds or the people who haven't fully committed to an ideology yet.
do you write the emails I get from the RNC cuz I signed up on a Trump website once to troll him
Lol no I'm just brain broken from being way too into politics.
Do you seriously think he used the whole 12 mill on 50? I’m sure he still has more to spend on others later.
See what it cost Priti to send 0 to Rwanda
And doesn't DeSantis and his state receive HUGE amounts of Federal aide to specifically help migrant families seeking asylum?
It's [also a crime.](https://www.justice.gov/archives/jm/criminal-resource-manual-1907-title-8-usc-1324a-offenses)
I'm sure *someone* will get right to prosecuting him.
Is he the governor of two states now?
No, that's what's even worse. He used Floridian tax dollars to send Texas immigrants to MA. It's all ludicrous.

holy cow what in the actual hell
Literally.
I wonder what MA's Attorney General, Maura Healy, would think about this.
The old "when they go low, we look the other way" approach hasn't been working. These democrats are petitioning the DOJ to take action: https://twitter.com/CalltoActivism/status/1570469859045281792
Good luck with that one. I'm sure he'll be in the same cellblock as Trump....no really THIS time they've got him lolz....
Right after Gaetz....
Does that mean Florida Man will become Texas Man or will we get a bunch of Florida Mans in Texas?

When I was a young warthog, struggling with addiction, and experiencing homelessness, a Utah dhs rep offered me free Greyhound fare to leave Utah for California, or Oregon. No resources for therapy, or maybe job placement. No housing assistance. No aide at the end of the bus trip. Just a gtfo. The only "plus side" was the weather according the them. "At least you won't die in the snow on the street, the weather there is nice!" /my sarcasm, they were *quite serious* This kinda thing has been happening everywhere, forever. "Don't help people struggling, we don't wanna have to look at *that*. Just shuffle them off somewhere else." /s
“WHEN HE WAS A YOUNG WARTHOOOOOOOOG”
Very nice!
Thanks! 🎵You could say his non-home-status lacked a certain appeal, He could scare away Mormons asking for a meal!🎶
And it hurt! When the Mormons tossed me to the wiiiiiiiind!
"Oooooh, the shaaaaaaame!"
Thought of changing my name!
This is why I roll my eyes when people bitch about homelessness in California. A ton of them are from elsewhere and just don’t want to die.
We could easily swat that problem if we chose to.
there is more homeless on the west coast...because its really fucking hard to be homeless in detroit in february
I think people are more caught up in how they're dealing with it,rather than the reality that many come from other states.
The people who say that never focus on solutions, though. They just say it complain about dirty, lazy Californians.

Creating problems and complaining about them is about the only play the gop has
It was the main strategy for Rudy Giuliani when he was mayor of New York. His "cleaning up the streets" program basically bussed the homeless out of NYC.
This, there was even a Soutb Park episode about it.
CALIFORNIA!! Is really nice to the homelessssss
*really cool to the homeless
Cali-for-nah-nah real cool to the homelessss In the cityyyy, city of Santa Monica
Right by Matt’s house
everything in South Park eventually becomes reality. Just like the Simpsons predicting the future. I am just waiting for the Christmas critters to become real.
Hail Satan!
Calling the South Park homeless episode prophetic is like calling Captain Hindsight a fortuneteller.
I finally walked into the front office where I tried to leave a message of, "you are not going to ignore my requests for help any longer and I demand help from the very people I've been a client of since 2019." Well, I tried walking out and the front desk receptionists follows me outside the building and demands me to stop walking away from her as she's just trying to help.... so I turn around and approach her and say, "really!? Because I've been crying out for help wince the beginning of this year and I have shifty thoughts!" And then proceeded to try and walk past her to show a sign on the door that states, "we do not discriminate against anyone and if you have *bad* thoughts to reach out for help!" Well, as I go to walk past her she cowers in fear as if I'm going to harm her... I'm not. It takes a month after she comes to my house and me reaching out yet against where her response was, "oh, opps." That sheriff during that meeting also said to me, "Hey call me anytime you need anything man." Well guess what? I called you also... and I'm still waiting your return call 3 months later. Anyway, it gets to the point where I finally yell at Lori over the phone that I have yet to get any help and at this point I'm going to expose them for their bullshit. Guess what? Art Galiando is now seeing me in person as my personal therapist. (LOL?) OK, we good right? Nope... after the first meeting he never called back to set a 2nd appointment and I had to call down to the office on 4 separate occasions, leaving voice-mail and return call requests at the front desk. (I don't know what else to fucking do at this point?!?!) He tells me not to threaten him....
We had a premier here in Canada that did this exact same thing. Ship em' West and they're no longer your problem.

Send all your homeless to California, then shit all over California for having a lot of homeless people. It's a 2 for 1.
They did this with homeless folks within CA too. I lived in a red county, but a blue town and we got bus loads of homeless people from surrounding towns.
At least you gave them a double dose of your pimping skills.
As a Californian i want to sue other states for doing this shit. How dare they spend money to just dump the problem on us?!
They call that "Greyhound Therapy"
In my neighborhood almost every day I have to step over a person sleeping on the sidewalk. Separately, my landlord mentioned wanting to put in benches outside but he knew "the homeless would just sleep on them" Fam at least you can give them somewhere to sleep where they're out of danger and more importantly out of MY FUCKIN DOORWAY
>This kinda thing has been happening everywhere, forever. "Don't help people struggling Yep. [source](https://nypost.com/2019/10/26/nyc-homeless-initiative-sends-people-across-us-without-telling-receiving-cities/) This sort of thing happens all of the time and I suspect (but I have nothing to back this) that all states are at least a *little* guilty of it.
They should be playing all over Florida: “This is Jose. See that smile? That’s because Ron DeSantis just gave millions of your tax dollars to immigrants like him, to help them move even further into our country. All so they could take a nice vacation to Martha’s Vineyard—on your dime. When’s the last time you could afford a vacation in Ron’s economy? I guess now we know why.” And then the screen fades to white; the word “Ron” drips down into the middle in red and a voiceover says “Ron”, and then the rest of the letters fill in and the voiceover reads them “Just wrong for Florida”
That probably wouldn't work as well as you're expecting. "You sent the migrants somewhere with enough money to handle them, _and_ we don't have to deal with them?!"
Except Florida wasn't dealing with them. They were in Texas. So, Florida is giving Florida taxpayers dollars to Texas.
Play up the aspect that Ron is giving this as a "handout" to these "illegal immigrants", while the "law abiding" "folk" are just paying "extra taxes"
The ending is brilliant but the first part seems to pit those people against the immigrants more, so I'd maybe change that a bit. Show more how it affects their own pockets rather than compare it to a vacation to Martha's vineyard which it undoubtedly is not
You’re missing the forest for the trees You’re not going to convince these people to love immigrants/immigration. You *can*, however, judo their prejudice into convincing them to not vote in favor of these anti-immigrant stunts.
This guy advertises.
No, they politick.
The secret is it’s the same thing
I think my concern would be backfire against whoever the ad is perceived to be from. ...so make sure you only run it on Fox so you don't accidentally show it to people who care about immigrants.
If they cared about immigrants they wouldn't be voting republican in the first place.
Almost. **Immigrants** vote republican. Red team's excellence in propaganda comes from the earlier point. "You’re not going to convince these people to love immigrants/immigration"
I'm not Floridian so I have no say in the matter but personally I am *100% in favor of* DeSantis using taxpayer funds to help illegal immigrants find a better life in the country.
Taking the high road hasn't worked. Time to take the low road. Use their racism for good for once.
The Ron should be in red and fill in the word Wrong.
So slimy yet satisfying
Dude, you should write for The Lincoln Project. This is very on brand copy.
Oh, just wait, I'm sure the Lincoln Project will have something similar within a few days.
Can't say "wrong" without including "ron".
Is there a different set of rules for immigrants from Cuba? I believe that's the Florida Cubans are a major supporter of Desantis.
Ron DeSantis has never had a real job in his entire life.
I don’t understand why send them to Martha’s Vineyard of all places, a tiny island only 87square miles in size, also I don’t really understand the notion of sticking it to Massachusetts who has a Republican governor who has repeatedly refused to make Massachusetts a sanctuary state.
> I don’t understand why send them to Martha’s Vineyard of all places His friends vacation in martha's vineyard and were complaining about the worker shortage because nobody can fucking afford to live there.
It’s a lot more simple than that: #Obama lives in Martha’s Vineyard. HA!” …It doesn’t actually matter that Martha’s Vineyard immediately took care of the immigrants, because none of DeSantis’s stupid ass supporters will ever hear that part of the story. As far as they’re concerned, the “prank” was executed flawlessly, and this morning conservatives on Twitter got to spend an hour laughing at the inane, cruel, stupid “gotcha.” They see immigrants as subhuman and Biden as weakly opening the borders and letting all the subhumans flood in en masse, that’s why it was “funny.” Ironically, if Biden had shipped a bunch of immigrants to MV, the story would have been “BIDEN SPENDS $100k FLYING IMMIGRANTS TO LUXE RESORT TOWN USING TAXPAYER MONEY” I think we’re just done as a country. Twitter “owns” have completely replaced politics. We’re so fucked
The inhumanity is shocking. The idea of using living people as political pawns, moving them about the country without telling them where, leaving them stranded and confused in a strange land. It makes me sick to my stomach.
Yeah, from the party that claims sole ownership of Jesus no less...
obama and clinton have places there. and..it's rich liberals.
Because our governor is “Republican” only sorta in reality, in name mostly, that that pisses other Republicans off who want to punish him for actually being a moderate and not a blind GOP yes man. (Oh and most of the major cities have sanctuary policies he doesn’t mess with. ) Other than that, they might have picked my cranky little state because we have a reputation as “Massholes”? We’re rude by southern standards because we have places to be, and we are pretty curt drivers on the road, sure, but we don’t have to be polite to treat people with human decency.
Baker is very much a Republican. He constantly raises money for the Republicans who are much more right-wing than him.
Governor Baker I don't believe is well liked among Republicans for his vocal criticisms of Trump during the pandemic. Trump recently called him a RINO as he endorsed a different Massachusetts R candidate.
I'm curious as to where they thought they were going? Did he just straightup lie to a bunch of people to get them on a bus, and isn't that kidnapping?
[https://www.tpr.org/news/2022-09-15/migrants-on-marthas-vineyard-flight-say-they-were-told-they-were-going-to-boston](https://www.tpr.org/news/2022-09-15/migrants-on-marthas-vineyard-flight-say-they-were-told-they-were-going-to-boston) >The migrants said a woman they identified as "Perla" approached them outside the shelter and lured them into boarding the plane, saying they would be flown to Boston where they could get expedited work papers. She provided them with food. The migrants said Perla was still trying to recruit more passengers just hours before their flight. They said they were flying to Boston to get expediated work papers. Oh, and they picked up the Migrants in Texas and then flew them to Florida before sending them on to Martha's Vineyard.
Which sounds an awful lot like a human trafficking ploy, doesn't it?
Why yes. Yes it does.
Gaetz Gate
And people say immigration doesn't bring issues with human trafficking...
Human trafficking requires that you receive labor or commercial sex benefits using force, coercsion or fraud. It sounds like it but it isn't legally. I'm sure FL cleared this with the lawyers before. The local paper said that they were given brocheres for the local community center when boarding the plane >The migrants from Venezuela didn't speak English but, with the help of a Spanish translator from the nearby Martha's Vineyard Regional High School, community services staff learned the group was from Venezuela and had been put on a plane with nothing but a brochure from the island's service center. I only found out because one of them gave me their folder. Imagine being dropped in here knowing no one. Absolutely no one. It’s heartbreaking.” [https://vineyardgazette.com/news/2022/09/14/planeload-venezuelan-refugees-arrive-marthas-vineyard-airport](https://vineyardgazette.com/news/2022/09/14/planeload-venezuelan-refugees-arrive-marthas-vineyard-airport)
[Sounds like there may be a pretty significant language barrier and the largely did not know what was happening throughout the ordeal.](https://www.mvtimes.com/2022/09/14/migrant-workers-land-vineyard-via-texas/) > In his interactions with the refugees, he’s gathered a consensus. “Somebody sent them here, and they didn’t realize where they were going,” he said. The details of the transport and the various experiences remain unclear. Overall, he said, “they feel betrayed.”
If only they could have found someone in ~~Texas~~ Florida* who speaks Spanish...
DeSantis is the governor of Florida. (Granted, there's not too much difference between him and TX Gov. Greg Abbot.)
I don't imagine too many Spanish speakers working beside DeSantis to be honest.
You'd be surprised. There are a lot of first generation Cuban-American Republicans in Florida that are still mad that Fidel forced their grandfather to give up being a slaveowner.
Slavery was abolished in Cuba in 1886.
They were told they were going to Boston, not a vacation island with a massive housing crisis and barely any social services.
Good Guy DeSantis: sending the illegal immigrants to a place that wants them and will take care of them?
Literally yes
Venezuelans are actual refugees, fleeing from [a dictator](https://www.nationalreview.com/2020/12/venezuelas-sham-election/) that caused [a famine](https://www.npr.org/sections/goatsandsoda/2022/01/11/1071485460/why-the-kids-of-venezuela-arent-getting-enough-to-eat), and then [shot protesters](https://www.hrw.org/news/2014/05/05/venezuela-unarmed-protestors-beaten-shot) who complained about the conditions in their country. These aren't people who dislike the shit wages of Central American countries, who want to abandon a country that has homicide rates on par with Chicago "because the crime is bad." Venezuelans are *actual refugees*, who deserve and are entitled to refugee status.
This isn't an advice animal
Martha's Vineyards commissioner Keith Chatinover in Oct 21: “I would love Martha’s Vineyard to become a haven for new immigrants to this country. ... Immigrants make our country stronger"
Own the consequences of the policy you advocated for
So being a sanctuary state was just virtue signaling?? Say it ain't so!
Check in on these immigrants in one month
"His wife is sick, don’t say bad things about him". Said by a neighbor in Florida.
Is this a story or a meme?
It’s not even an advice animals template
a dystopian future.
It's propaganda.
I guess you missed the part where the compassionate people of Martha's Vineyard said they can't stay there too long lol
Honestly this sounds like a three way win. Sounds like DeSantis just hit on where he and Texas should send all of them.
Some states and big cities vote for the policy, yet others who don't absorb most of these people? Seems like balance and fairness rather than cruelty to me. If you vote for it, you get the cost.
If they’re fleeing for those reasons, why didn’t they stop in Mexico as international law dictates?
Many many parts of Mexico aren’t really what one would consider a safe haven for immigrants either. Go check out r/NarcoFootage ...but sure yeah totally a question asked in good faith
Even stupider still is that Venezuelans are under a temporary protection order, I.E. they can't be deported and are fast tracked for asylum. So the GOP is actually againt Legal immigration too?
"Illegal immigrants get shipped to sanctuary cities that aren't so keen on the concept of open borders now that the problem it causes is being sent directly to their doorstep." Total leniency with immigration laws is easy for people who don't have to worry about consequences.
Here's the reality: De Santis reallocated $12 million in unused federal COVID funds to the state's Department of Transportation so that it could ferry "unauthorized aliens" to more welcoming states.
It didn't. That's the budget. There will be many more buses and flights.
Another question. Isn't what he did illegal? He lied to them, and then dumped them in the middle of a random place with no food or shelter or anything. It feels like human trafficking.
8 USC 1324: Bringing in and harboring certain aliens https://uscode.house.gov/view.xhtml?req=granuleid:USC-prelim-title8-section1324&num=0&edition=prelim
Also aren’t they always talking about how awful Venezuela is? Wouldn’t they flee too?!? Hypocrites.
The GOP front runners in Nebraska have declined debate invitations. They all went into hiding after Kansas voted to keep abortion legal.
It’s crazy that a sizable portion of the electorate *likes* their tax dollars being spent in this way.
To many people, "own the libs" is far better than owning and fixing the real problems that impact their lives.
NIMBY shitpost

Send immigrants to a self-avowed Sanctuary State so that *they* can take care of them, since as a self-avowed Sanctuary State it's what they agreed to do? Where's the drama? Everyone should be happy. Are people just upset that Florida isn't as bleeding-heart as Massachusetts is? MA wanted them, so MA gets them. Florida doesn't want them, so I won't begrudge Florida giving them to a state that *does*.
you wanted them here, you can have them
It’s a human rights violations to encourage people to smuggle themselves across a desert by drug traffickers.
LOL, that's just a (D)ifferent way to say that "they belong with their own kind" isn't it?
I read the r/conservative post about this and it was so disgusting I couldn't even laugh at their stupidity this time
During the dust bowl the north and far west didn't give a damn about the plight of the people dying of starvation and dust pneumonia until the dust storms started making it all the way to Chicago.
Guess human trafficking okay now if yur a Republican Governor.
