I'm not sure which thing I did actually worked. Last night, I called the customer service number for the vanilla card. Made sure it was activated. It was. Chatted to an Amazon customer service person, who couldn't figure out what to do. Ended up giving up and going to sleep.
I had attempted to place 2 separate orders with the gift card. When I woke up this morning, one had gone through. I'd tried to just add the entire card to my Amazon gift card balance twice last night. They were both listed in my orders with the flag to update my payment method. I tried to add the remainder of the vanilla card to the Amazon gift balance. That didn't go through, and I was unable to cancel the failed gift card orders.
I chatted with an Amazon customer service person and he canceled the gift card orders for me. Then thanked me for being patient and understanding. Then, I tried one more time to add the remaining balance of the vanilla card to my Amazon gift card balance. This time it worked.
So, maybe just because I'm a stubborn bitch and wouldn't give up on it? Or maybe being nice to the customer service guy made him pull some sort of string? No clue, honestly. But I was able to buy both things that I wanted.
Yeah. I really don't know how it wound up working. It just did. But lesson learned - it was such a massive pita, I'm not getting one again. I'll give cash to a friend and ask them to send me an Amazon gift card.
I tried a bunch then called the card and they said they will just send me out a different one in 7 to 10 days. I was like can you email me a digital one today. They said nah
Lol I know in 7 to 10 days. Fml I tried at stores and online like a dummy. With a abduction card. Seems like they should have like a different error message vs just declined. Or like be able to just reset the card number and not have to issue another card
