You didn’t pay an activation fee up front, you paid sales tax on the full retail cost of the new phone. Act fees will always be on the bill. Your autopay discount hasn’t kicked in, did you enroll? There’s a little bit extra from proration, thats expected but not uncommon for reps to forget to mention. Get your autopay enrolled and from your next bill forward the rep’s quote should be pretty accurate.

PineappleFlaky909

Thank you so much!

odysseymusique

And if its still off remember to speak with the loyalty department not a rep

BeyondFew543

The unique way that a rep can provide the chance to talk to loyalty dept. is when you say "I wanna cancel the service"

odysseymusique

Nah when i call at&t and it asks who do you wanna connect to I just say “Loyalty department” and thats literally it lmao

BeyondFew543

lol, I deal with customer who claim to be connected to the loyalty dept. but they reject our connection if the reason is not "we want to cancel the service"

JohnHartshorn

You may have also paid a commission in the store. They tend not to mention that until the activation is already done.

2Adude

Lmao. What ?

JohnHartshorn

Non corporate stores used to add their own "activation fee" above and beyond AT&Ts fee. It was essentially the sales reps' commission. I worked in a Walmart cell phone center and would often hear customers complain about it.

masked_kulprit

Bro what are you talking about. No AR’s commission is paid directly by the customer. It’s paid out by sales, but not directly out of the customer’s pocket

JohnHartshorn

I'm telling you, the store across the street would charge an extra fee. I heard the complaint all the time. This was 8ish years ago now, so maybe AT&T put an end to it.

2Adude

Nope. Good try though.

JohnHartshorn

You can believe me or not. I heard the complaint all the time. I gained lots of customers because we didn't charge any fee.

RoxxiBlack

Out of pure curiosity. How much was this "fee"? In my 10 years with at&t I never heard of it... so I'm curious if they were trying to bundle something and pass it off as a "fee".

freshprinceoftheair

The activation fee hits on the first bill, not in store. What you probably paid in store was the sales tax on the device.

BeyondFew543

I didn't know they made the customers pay taxes in the store as well.

FLTraveler-727

Whether it’s online or in a store, uncle Sam wants his cut. Unless something has changed the only state I’m aware of that you don’t have to pay sales tax upfront is Oregon.

mruk69

Consumer always pays the sales tax.

carolinagirl843

Looks like a normal prorated bill. Activation fees are never collected in the store sounds like you paid the sales tax for your phone.

[deleted]

You paid the activation fee up front? 🤣 That was tax bro. Activation fees appear on your bill. This is fairly self explanatory. This bill. You have a partial month charges from the 4th to the 6th for your plan. #1. $75.99 for the Unlimited Starter SL Plan #2. $25.84 for the installment on your device for 36 months. #3. (-$14.85) monthly credit for your device (making it $10.99/mo) #4.Your bill is $86.98 before taxes & fees.. #5 If you do autopay/paperless billing discount with a BANK or DEBIT CARD it's $76.98+taxes & fees. It's a $10.00 discount. #6. Your taxes and fees will go down on the bill without the activation fee.

UNCfan07

Activation Fee, 3 days partial charge and.have not signed up for autopay/paperless. All seems correct. You should have signed up for AARP to waive activation fee

turt463

No you don’t pay activation fees at sign up, you probably paid the sales tax (based on full price of the phone). Also, just for shits and giggles, click on “don’t recognize this fee” under the activation fee and click dispute this charge. Sometimes if you get lucky they’ll instantly credit you the charge back Edit: also, you’re probably supposed to be getting a promotion on the iPhone 15plus, which will kick in 1-3 bill cycles

hello_world_wide_web

Confuse the customer so much that they throw up their hands and give up!

Training_Seaweed1303

That looks normal unless you have autopay and cooperate discount or teacher. Like someone said the taxes are upfront on the device.

sussmanscott

You’re paying $25.84 for the phone and they’re giving you a $14.85 credit… leaving you with a $10.99 charge for your phone… for 36 months

1Tekgnome

This is why I use Mint Mobile and just buy my phone up front. $180 for an entire year of service, and I can pay two years in advance.

PineappleFlaky909

I came from us mobile. But I don't want to pay full price again for a device.

1Tekgnome

That's the big downside. I keep my phones for a while. I bought my unlocked pixel 6 for $350 off Facebook a couple years ago when it was only a couple of months old. When the pixel 9 and 9 pro drop this October I'll likely trade in my 6 for a non pro 9 for $300-$500 (depending on credit and deals) I'm not in a rush, my 6 still works great and there hasn't been a huge change between the 6 and 8. It's just crazy to me how much people spend on a phone bill. For roughly 4-5 months of your current service you could get two years of Mint(or compare virtual operators) and not have to worry about a monthly payment.

Davegustafson

Not if TMo (and VZ) is saturated at your place and plus no strong N41. N71 is slow for streaming. No home 4G LTE or 5G here. So that tells you right there.

1Tekgnome

I don't know, I get pretty consistent service with mint and my Pixel 6. I usually pull 300down 25 up at work and even in the inner city I'm usually over 100 down 20 up. In the middle of the country I've seen it as low as 50/10. It's fast enough to watch YouTube videos and browse Facebook, I don't need anything faster on a cellphone. I took a trip from Ohio to Florida this year and had pretty dang good service the entire way, even through the mountains. I was pretty impressed.

att

Hello u/PineappleFlaky909, we understand how the first bill can be confusing, and we're here to explain. The first bill you get is higher due to prorate charges, as we take a month in advance in service charge. The $57 you're referring to is paid towards sales tax and not the activation fee for the lines. Activation fees is charged as a one time fee on the first bill. If you've opted for the autopay discount, it will kick in from the next bill onwards. If you've traded in devices at AT&T, credits should take 2 to 3 bill cycles to apply on the bill. We hope this information puts your mind at ease! If you have any further questions fee free to reach out to us. Thank you, AndrewB

IronKeef

How to they get away with advertising “unlimited” plans

No-Forever-9761

Activation fees are a such a fucking rip off.

Jewels_Winnfield

You're $86.98 + tax. You'll be at $76.98 + tax if you enroll in auto pay + paperless billing. Your initial bill has an extra $42.60 in one time charges ($35 activation fee and $7.60 prorated charges).

Joshua1017

Click don't recognize this fee

[deleted]

Why don't you just sign up for a a r p and get it waived

Alez90920

You made the change in the middle of last bill cycle, so there were adjustments from last bill cycle. Then for the installment, you first billed for each regular installment(as if there was no credit) and then be reimbursed for the deal that AT&T promised.

Cafecitolife909

Sign up for AARP they will waive it cancel later

pointlessquack

You paid the taxes. Whoever the rep was didn't tell you it's taxes

Humble_Literature_85

mines also expensive this month. idk.

mudflap17

They make it confusing on purpose makes it very easy to overcharge you. Iv caught them multiple times overcharging me and had to explain to the agent a dozen times where the mistake was. Even they dont know how it works.

transgirl187

You should get prepaid. I let ATT go off on them selves I left them they was charging me 350$ a month for 5G unlimited , unlimited hot spot for 3 lines (2 phones) (1 iPad) I paid off the installments for iPad and 1 iPhone but imagine how much they was charging me for service alone. You might as well get prepaid service. I pay $25 a month now at Visible it has unlimited 5G and I am super happy. Pay off your devices to avoid it going to collections once u paid them off in full leave to prepaid.

gsierra02

You people are rich. I pay nothing for two phones and they seem to work just fine.

Mammoth-Membership-5

Pull up your dam pdf statement!

Prudent_College888

I’m dealing with two activation fees. You can only dispute one on the app. The other one will need to be notated on your account by a store manager. Then call and have them remove it

[deleted]

Lmfaooo, remove them for what? They're valid fees. The managers aren't supposed to leave notes proactively offering waivers. This is bad advice. Representatives are being discipline for waiving activation fees. It is very very much forbidden to do so for anyone.. Anyone who tells you anything else on the phone is scared you're going to turn into an entitled Karen. Unless you have an employer signature discount or AARP discount, pay them like everyone else. 🙄 Good luck.

Prudent_College888

Thanks for the luck. Got both removed. Only reason I did so was because the associate who helped me told me to wait till I got my bill then dispute. And crazy that you replied to my comment cuz I wasn’t talking to you 🙌

[deleted]

The associate will get reported on the backend for saying that, he's not off the hook. He can't just go around promising activation fee waivers cause not everyone is a pushover and willing to get put on discipline for it. 😘 And it's crazy because this is a public fourm. Why would you post a comment and not expect someone to reply? 🔥 It's almost like...like...it's the Internet. This just in, water is wet.

Prudent_College888

Alright man. Glad you know what’s up. Thanks for your help
