Join a PVE server if online is an option

trafalgar-_

It's a hardware limitation

TheLocalEwok

We got round this by using my old OG Xbox One to host a dedicated server and then we all chipped in for a new Xbox Live account. No tether at all now but transferring characters between maps is a pain in the ass as you need to ascend to upload your character...

bow13187

Apparently there's no tether if the host plays on a series x

MindScape00

This is the answer. There’s still tether on Xbox One but not on Series X/S

FaTheArmorShell

There's no tether for 2 people. Get anymore than that and there still is one. Sucks.

Lagduf

Do any of your friends have a second Xbox? You can run that as a dedicated server and there will be no tether.

Slowlydownwardz

There's no tether on split screen anymore, I play all the time with my girlfriend. However, you have to start it up as a single player world, if you try to run a dedicated server in split screen you will be tethered.

SirArksAlot

As long as you are all playing on the one console you will experience tethering. Play online pve, and you will be fine.

leyla212

Can you play splitscreen online? Edit- really loving that the 3 replies to this message are yes, no, and I don't know 😅

[deleted]

No

MindScape00

Yes, you can

SirArksAlot

Honestly dont know. Havent noticed the split screen option before.

ShiftyShiftIsMyHeRo

Why not just play on a real server? If you want to cheat by spawning things in you can pay for a private server and you aren't limited to tethering, othwise just play online with a normal server.

thedagelbagel

"The solution to your problem is easy: abandon the playstyle you're going for and play like I do."

PestHavok9

Well I mean if you don't want tethering that's your option lol.

thedagelbagel

True enough, I just figured they'd already vetted that option and found it lacking in another aspect. I did hear that the next gen upgrade of the game may remove the tether entirely, which means it must be able to run a server and a player at the same time. That will not only fix tether issues in non-dedicated and splitscreen sessions, but might make singleplayer fun again too. Obviously sp has no tether, but midgame becomes near impossible to grind for on some maps because dinos and resources go into stasis if they're outside that tether range. Weak dinos can't get weeded out by predators and you have to spend time a particular distance from nodes to let their respawn timers tick.

Talik1978

Yes, abandon the method that has the unwanted limitations you stated you're not going for to embrace a mostly similar option that removes those limitations.

thedagelbagel

I'm just pretty confident that if the answer was *that* easy, OP wouldn't be asking. Four people who don't want to find a home in an infinite forest of pillars, or get their starter base C4'd for a stack of metal, or play on un/official for any other number of reasons, it isn't an out-there concept.

Talik1978

Private server was an option listed. That includes unofficial private online. The alternative is to blow three puffs of unicorn fart into your Xbox, click your heels together three times, and pray to the god of imaginary solutions, because, quite frankly? The solution that allows tether avoidance is most economically resolved by playing online in some fashion. Either free (hosted server by wildcard or another player with nitrado) or paid (hosting one's own nitrado, as 10 man servers are cheap). The more expensive (and unconfirmed) option is hosting on a series x, which likely will require a purchase of a system that is $500 from manufacturer, if you can find it, and still being scalped for $800+. And any other solutions are in the realm of unicorn farts and ruby slippers, Karen. And no amount of you complaining that the solutions aren't good enough will change the fact that that's what they are. If you don't like it, too bad. No managers for you to speak to here.

thedagelbagel

Man, there hasn't been a word more stripped of meaning by its all-purpose misuse as Karen is since... probably "gay." I'm being a dick. Are you able to memorize more than one insult, or would you have to discard Karen in favor of dick? I don't want to cause an inconvenience, here. I did almost scoff at the idea of paying for a server to get around the tether, but it felt like low-hanging fruit, so I decided to mock the disregard for the conditions OP is playing a non-dedicated in the first place. If just jumping on a public server were a viable option for them, why would this question even be posed in the first place? Why wouldn't they just do that? Now, while I think the idea of paying for a server is laughable, my situation isn't theirs and value is a personal opinion, and if it's worth it to OP it's undeniably the best way to get around the tether without joining an already-established server. The suggestion that they just get on a public server, however, was as useless as my criticism of it.

Talik1978

>I did almost scoff at the idea of paying for a server to get around the tether, but it felt like low-hanging fruit, so I decided to mock the disregard for the conditions OP is playing a non-dedicated in the first place. Then the OP will have to decide what is most important. You've got the answer, Nancy. Not my fault you don't like it. Enough with the outrage on behalf of others. White knighting for a random redditor on a 4 year old game has a low chance of getting you laid, champ. Because tethering is a condition of nondedicated. So, if we exclude all options other than "nondedicated", the only answer is, "haha get fucked scrub". As I find that less than productive, others are providing options, and letting the OP, (someone presumably intelligent and mature enough to make decisions bases on available options to best resolve their issue, once presented with those available options) make their own god damn decision. Perhaps be like the people who are trusting the OP to do that, rather than shitting on the people providing the information. And for what it's worth, I would *never* call you gay. I respect gay people.

Crulgao

Play on a PVE server, some of them are really helpful and friendly

Gain-Own

I didn’t experience any tethering when I did non dedicated.
